I'm going to have to try this. I'm wearing 8, the oldest is now 3 years. They are made with mercerized cotton thread or embroidery floss, but sometimes I can't buy it when I need it.

@@sexysdub it depends on the size of bead. Standard size beads is usually a 6. Because the stretch cords are fairly thick I would only recommend one string and tying 2 knots.

I use the hemp cord I love them if you want to tie them to your waist. Mine last about 3-4 months. I would not recommend using it for removal waistbeads.

@@lilmspinki09 The life span is literally forever unless you cut it yourself. You would have to measure yourself and use either lobster claws or the screw on closures for them. I’ve had a pair for 10 years; I haven’t worn it in about 3 years, but they’re still in tact.

I use the clear Beadalon supplemax for tie on and clasp. If I tie it, I burn the ends, and if I add a clasp I tie 2 knots and and use crimp beads.

My preference is elastic so I can alternate however if you’re wearing them to aid fertility or to track weight loss I’d go for cotton string🤍

Nice and informative vid. I have 13 permanent waistbeads and all made with different threads. I used fishing line, upholstery thread, dental floss, spider wire & trilene cord ( those two are types of fine fishing line). They all have pros and cons. Some have popped over the years but most of them I've made with 14 or 30lb fishing line. But I want to know what type of thread they be using in Ghana and some African countries.

I recently bought sewing thread to try making waistbeads (welp) but since I already have it, I am passing multiple strands through a beeswax block as I heard it helps to strengthen the string and with fraying (looks/feels like floss now which is pretty neat). Will see how that goes.

I have hemp on now Amd 7 strands of waist beads they haven’t brown yet I used a collapsible needle , mono cord I used amd if it’s too tight it will pop in half , nylon tends to sink after a shower water weight and loosens over time but WONT BREAK!! Haven’t tried nymo

I use beadalon wildfire thermally bonded bead weaving it’s thin and extremely strong but doesn’t have give that’s the problem but I noticed things with stretch always get too loose especially if you want permanent waste beads

Only if it's too tight...waistbeads are also for monitoring your weight, so if it's getting a lil too snug on you, that's a sign you're either bloated, or gaining weight

I think your supposed to use crimp beads for the clear cord. I can't figure out how to do it right though. My crimp beads either crumble apart or they slice through the cord.

If you have a Michaels craft or Joanns look for mercerized cotton aunt Lydia's brand. Look for size 10 double the strand if using small beads with a beading needle and triple it if your using size 6 beeds or larger. This is comparable to the African traditional way of making waist beads. and they are a more permanent option. Sorry for the long reply😊

I just went to Walmart to get the stretch elastic- but they did not have it- I can't figure out the brand name from your other video. You show the blue package before you take out the small card with the 12 feet of white stretch elastic but I don't know the brand. Thanks if you can tell me the name on the package. You can so what you like. It depends on the reason you are wearing them. If it is for fat loss or manifesting, you would usually keep them on. If its simply adornment, then you can remove them daily if you like.

Nymo string is made from Nylon and not all are coated in bees wax. You can try fishing line. Also Kite string would be considered vegan. There are planty...

It sounds like you have too much space between your beads. The only cord I have experienced pinching from has been that clear elastic.

@@fj4396 so am I, I have 13 strands I have been wearing for the last 5-6 yrs but over the yrs some have pop and I redo them. I use mainly 30lb or double 14lb fishing line and I use a crimp and crimp cover when I do. I also used spider wire and trilene cord (20&40lb) which is a type of fishing line I get from the fisherman store, I've tried dental floss but that freys after a while like the upholstery thread and the embroidery thread. I also use bicone beads as wells and the constant friction cause cut through those threads more easier than the fishing line. So it's a bit of a trial and error to me to see which thread is more durable especially for permanent waistbeads.

So I have five strands of beads which fit rather snug when I got them originally. Over the course of a year I lost weight and nearly lost a few of them to the latrine. I need to restring them and then re-tie them. I’m thinking the very last type of string Nymo (I think it was)…. Wish me luck!!!

Cause the best one for you may not be the best for someone else. You may favor one type of string over another, depending on lifestyle and goals with the waist beads.
