For salmon and bigger steelhead, nothing beats a vibrax spinner. But for trout and smaller steelhead, a 1/8 oz panther Martin is deadly. Definitely one of my favourite lures of all time.

I been bobber fishing for 25yrs, this yr I am dedicating salmon and steelhead fishing with spinners only. I have bought $200.00 in mepps and blue fox in blue gold silver, and pink and chartreuse 7/8 flying C, the bass hammer this one. We'll see after I get at it. Thanks for your input. Erie steelhead and Browns seem to like Kastmasters. Gold for browns and silver for steelhead. Not sure if they like how i fish it or just the lure itself but i always seem to have success with them. Cast, reel slow, a few jig strokes, reel and repeat. They seem to crush it on the fall after a jig stroke.

So random comment. Im sitting here at Redbud MX for the Pro ATV national races. Been here 13 years in a row. Just found out today theres steelhead in the st joe. Man. Its like 500 feet away from the track lol. Might go over there and throw some lures... or maybe ill come back up in the fall. Nice video

A few years ago I went on a salmon fishing trip in Alaska and most local tackle shops agree that blue fox spinners work best for salmon

If I could only have one summer fishing lure I'd pick a 1/2oz steelee type spoon. I have some that are metallic green with a thick diagonal strip of nickel coating. So metallic green on the top right edge and bottom left corner and nickel in the middle. they kill summers. Thatd be my number 1 pick. My summer river can be moderately wide and those heavy spoons are easy to cast all the way across for long sweeping drifts with the spoon. For spinners though I like my size 4 homemade torpedo body spinners with brass blade. Body color in black. If fishing blue foxes which I do a lot of as well, I also like the size 4 blue body/silver blade combo (it seems to be a great all around color combo for ALL seasons) but when the water is clear I usually only fish that in the morning then switch to the brass when the sun comes out full force.

That's a hard call. Blue fox in gold, copper, brass, or blue have always been my favorite but I've slayed them on a number 15 black and gold panther Martin. That's spinners. But I also fish a lot of ssmj10 jigs and black wolly bugger jigs.

Back in the day , in the 80s, a standard size chrome with blue herring bone non rattle tadpolly. Good for all steelhead . The pradco and lindy ones dont even compare .

It may not be the best but a skated fly is about the most fun way to fish for salmon and steelhead. Nothing quite like the boil of a trout X 10, watching it go under, 1 2 3, and set the hook.
