@yourwrong68616 ай бұрын
@@hooligan5381 I think the media picked the Mavs for 1 of 2 reasons. The first being, these people are proclaimed as "gurus", but they dont watch all the Celtics games. The had NO idea how important Jrue & White were to this team. Their vision of Boston was from past teams, without those two, who fell short. These people cover ALL of sports. They simply dont have enough time to be on top of ANY single sport they cover. They watch highlights and box scores. They honestly are not capable of properly breaking down games. They are "hindsight" analyzers. The 2nd reason, is that picking the Mavs gives more attention to the finals and more attention on them. Picking the slam dunk better team would have received a "ho hum" from the viewing audience. Picking the Mavs to beat the best team, gets the casual fan more involved. When the casual fan hears the underdog can win, they tune in. The media is all hype. The cover and predict the better story, not the reality. They say how Boston had the easy run with Haliburton and Mitchell out, but they forget to tell you that Boston was up 2-1 vs Cleveland and 2-0 vs Indiana when those 2 got hurt...and of course they just assume Miami beats Boston with Butler, while of course disregarding that Miami never faced Boston with both White & Jrue. And people will continue to try and diminish this title, because the media wants views and a lot of fans are morons.

I wish they could give Marcus Smart an honorary ring
@Ironfangzu6 ай бұрын
Why? Smart played very hard, especially on defense, but I always felt that he was one of the reasons we had not won. As a floor general, his ball handling skills were shaky. He too often went for the fancy impressive pass instead of the safe efficient pass, and the thing is that he has great vision and should have made more good passes and less careless turnovers. Lastly, on a team with Tatum and Brown, and even Derek White, he was not the best option when it came to scoring at crunch time. But too often you'd be hoping that he would give the ball to Brown for a drive, or Tatum for a step back, and then suddenly Smart is taking, and missing, the hero shot. He was not a bad player by any means, but he was not as good on offense as he thought he was. You know who WAS really good on offense? Both White and Holiday. So, we lost Smart and he defense, but we got Holiday, who's defense is probably just as good. Overall in Holiday we got a guy who is a much more efficient scorer and can pretty much do it all. Do I dislike Smart? Not really. But does he deserve a ring? Not in my book.

Great comment @ironfangzu. Smart doesn't understand the importance of a crucial possession. In crucial moments instead of treasuring the ball smart made bone headed pass attempts or took an ill advised three. Good riddance.

That's what happens when you're opponent excels in the half-court offense, perimeter defense, players that can switch on anyone, and has experience. The Celtics are simply a bad matchup for the Mavericks. The Celtics finally learned how to play team ball, and not hero ball...

The Celtics did it right, they didnt just get desperate and dismantled the roster after failing 1 or 2 years in. Each year they sightly change one or 2 minor pieces and just played till it was their time.

What is Wilbon talking about? Those 80’s Celtics Bird teams would destroy this team. Magic’s 80’s Lakers, MJ’s 90’s Bulls, Shaq & Kobe’s Lakers, Duncan’s Spurs, Steph’s Warriors team would all destroy this team. The ‘08 Celtics would beat this team. Even the Bad Boy Pistons & Hakeem’s Rockets would. They’re in the same class as ‘19 Raptors, ‘21 Bucks, ‘23 Nuggets, & that’s fine. They’re champions.
