The NextJS project is still very good, but you're right about the Vercel platform starting to turn more corporate. Nothing inherently 'evil' as of now, but if you don't host with Vercel then you're not affected.

As I said in the video, I love it to launch something very quick. But if you want something really scalable and reliable, you can go for AWS or GCP. These are proven solutions.

Laravel is leaps and bounds ahead of NextJS, as it includes everything as first part tools. I have used both and really loved NextJS but there is no comparison. If you need to build a SaaS product, do yourself a favor and go with Laravel (or any other similar framework).
