As someone who isn't vegan, vegan butter really is pretty good. Depending on brand I've found it better for different applications. Particularly a salted cultured oat butter I found was really good with bread. People also seem to forget vegan butter is an option for people who also just physically cannot ingest butter.

Farm fresh raw (organic!) corn is the best tasting. In Michigan, we like sweet corn varieties. We put Tajin, salt, peper, and lemon juice on our cobs.When I had a microwave, we did in stalk, no cutting, not wet, and 2 minutes per cob. Came out pretty perfect. Now I use the instant pot for about 3 minutes on manual and quick release.

The funny thing about the people bitching about vegan butter is that they almost certainly ALL use vegan or nearly-vegan butter very often. Many margarines are vegan, and if they aren't vegan it's usually due to a small animal derivative product and not because a main ingredient (like milk) was present. People are just stupid.
@shana18762 ай бұрын
exactly! Lots of food manufacturers cut costs by skipping the dairy and just using oil, like Oreos. Or like many movie theater chains, they call it "butter" on your popcorn but it is just oil with "natural flavorings" and zero dairy involved.

I just discovered wrapping my corn in a clean towel dry - the steam cooks it well and saves a paper towel and/or plastic wrap (which was how I learned from my parents). It’s not much of a savings but trying to cut where I can.
@FoxtrotNovember28172 ай бұрын
You should peel it first and then chop the end. It is way easier to clean and way less stringy. You grab the strings and the one side of the husk and peel it all down then the other side and then just push the last few string down and then cut the end (or just snap it off, it snaps off easy)

Vegan butter is the same thing as margarine. Just sayin'. Personally, I like my corn with nothing on it. Tastes may vary. Your corn looks a little old. That may be why it tastes starchy. If you can find really fresh corn (usually not from a grocery store, more likely from a farmers' market or a truck stand) You will end up with sweeter, less starchy, corn. When a cob of corn is removed from the stalk, it starts to convert sugar to starch. When you get corn that has the outer husks getting dry, it's likely that much of the sugar has already been converted to starch. To figure out if the corn is fresh or old, look at the outer husk. If it is dark green, It's fresh and ripe. If it has a greyish cast to it, then it's definitely old. One other hint for microwaving corn on the cob is not to chop the ends off before it goes into the microwave. That helps to keep the moisture in, and helps to keep the kernels full, and juicy.
@SauceStache2 ай бұрын
Some margarines contain dairy. A lot of vegan butters actually contained cultured oats or nuts making them completely different than margarin. Just sayin'

the problem with a recipe mentioning microwave times is when they don't mention the WATTAGE of the microwave. My microwave at home is 1580 Watts, my parents' microwave is 1000 Watts, the microwave at my office is 700 Watts. So while 5 minute corn may have been way overcooked for you and me, it may be just right for my folks, and UNDERDONE at my office microwave.
