Messiah Doc Zach, need your advise bigtime sir. I usually wear a US12 men’s tennis pair of shoes and have wide feet/flat feet and have been wearing ASICS and Nikes for the longest time. Now with the newer models which are offering stability improvement, shoe laces are more fitted and less room for places like me to loosen the shoes. ASICS gel resolution 8 and most of the new ASICS don’t fit me at all. I am procuring Kswiss Hypercourt Express 2 and also Adidas game court since both have 2E size options. I wanted to get the Adidas courtjam bounce but was told the gamecourt is also comfortable with 2E size Options. I play club tennis and nothing competitive . Doc Zach, what is the size difference if you know between a US12 M and US 12 2E shoe in inches/cm? I am just making sure that 2E won’t be tooo wide if I have wide foot and maybe I can double sock it up? Please kindly advise 👍🌟🙏🙌🙋♂️

There is approximately a 1/2" difference between widths (2A, B, D, 2E and 4E) and a 3/8" difference between 4E and 6E width

@@FootDoctorZach Hey Doc! In this video you mention that there are a number of shoes that are both good for SERVE & VOLLEY and also on the list of those recommended for FLAT FEET - which are of most concern to me as a flat footed doubles player. Shoes on both these list include: Nike GP Turbo; Adidas Ubersonic 4; and the flat feet and serve & volley, or are the Nike GP Turbo; Adidas Ubersonic 4; and the Asics Gel Resolution 8. Three shoes you did not mention on both list that you cited as good choices for flat feet and serve & volley in the play test reviews you made for them were the Asics Speed Solution FF 2; the Lotto Mirage 100; and the Diadora Blushield 5 - you mentioned that these three shoes were good choices for both players with flat feet and those who serve & volley at that time. Are these last three shoes not on the FF and S&V lists because they are not as good as the ones mentioned, or should these be on these lists, as well? How would you rank these shoes personally knowing that The Lotto Mirage 100, Asics Speed FF2, and the Diadora Blushield 5 also made your TOP 5 shoe list for either Spring or Summer?

This is really, really helpful. I'm was looking at different shoes for the last few months for the next outdoor season and this video is really a confirmation that the Yonex PC Eclipsion 3 will fit me very well. Not only to the shape of my feet but also fitting to gamestyle. I'm one of those people who never had any issues or injuries to my feet or legs. I'm light, not too flexible, not too stiff body so I always could get away with pretty much whatever shoe I liked the look of. I do value stability and comfort very much though. This will be be the first time I'm going to buy shoes based on what actually fits my feet very well + what fits my gamestyle. From April to October I play pretty much all of my season on clay, except for a few matches on courts with some kind of loose sand or other material on it. Last season I played with Nike Air Zoom Vapor X with an all court sole instead of a clay sole. This was a mistake initially but I have never felt more confident, stable and grippy on a clay court as with these shoes. The outsoles of these are pretty different to the ones of the YPCE3 though. What would you recommend? Just to go for the clay version (navy/red) or go for the allcourt version (light blue/white) that you wore in your videos? My gut says I should just go for the clay version. I already ordered size 43EU (too small) and size 44.5EU (little too big) a while back. The conclusion is that I need size 44.0. So, waiting for those to be back in stock.

Glad you found something you liked in the video- yeah I’d go with the clay treads because they’ll still do well on hard if you play a few times on it but they will be exceptional on clay so i think that’s the best play- let me know how they work it for you when they restock

@@FootDoctorZach Where I live, there's hardly any hardcourts around. I've never even played on true hardcourt in the 16 years that I play tennis. 99% of the courts that I play on in the outdoor season are clay (95%), artificial grass or some kind of mix or something similar. So the clay sole should be the best choice indeed, although I found it weird that I felt way more grip and stability on sliding last season with allcourt soles. I'll order the clay version and let you know!

@@FootDoctorZach Doc, wanted to share my follow up on the 2020 SoleCourt Boost (SCB). First, I'm a 4.5 all courter who likes closing at net. Typically wearing 11.0 shoes due to wide 3E feet and high arches. Wearing SCBs with Superfeet Orange insole. Hard courts, 3x-4x a week. Positives: The SCBs are generous at the toebox and a size 10.5 was perfect. Good lateral stability (highly needed), forefoot support, and toe cap to sustain toe dragging and toe pushoff during serves. Shoe weight was not an issue with proper footwork and balance. Solid stitching, good upper construction--plus the design and colorway a nice touch. Negatives: Biggest issue is the outsole, lasting me 4 months. Literally burned a hole through medial forefoot region under the right toe. I suspect its due to my serve mechanics pushing off my right foot at launch and also that's my pivot point when I push off to weight transfer for the forehand. That's my main concern aside from mild breathability issue during intensive sessions. Overall: Love the shoe, and bought myself a second pair immediately after. Never had a pair of adidas that was stable enough for me esp. with 3E feet like mine. Question to you - could there have been a better way for me to reduce the outsole damage? Am I overpronating from my high arch and need a more neutral insole to help spread wear across the front of the outsole? Any suggestion appreciated!

Slightly wider than avg foot here with a high arch and those pesky back issues from time to time along with a knee two years out of surgery. Found it interesting that you didn't have the barricade on the best shoe for hard court sliding and I'm guessing it was because of the durability of the uppers. But I'd like to say that the new Barricade is the first shoe I've ever been able to slide in even though I've tried sliding in every pair of tennis shoes I've owned and I think it's because of the amazing stability and low(ish) to the ground feel it offers. In other shoes I simply didn't have the confidence to commit to the slide in fear of my ankles maybe, but with the barricades I can finally do it. I have incorporated your suggestion of using some skate wax on the sides and the uppers though to improve the shoe's durability and so far so good on the uppers.

Informative video. IMO, feet are subjective tho. I'm an all court player with a high arch and my experience with ASICS two seasons ago was not pleasant; wasn't feeling it. 2019 I wore Babolat and was like just "okay, it's a shoe, they fit, good stability, good outer sole". This month, 12/01, I made the switch to Lotto Mirage 100 SPD (with the optional 5mm insole, I plan on getting a custom orthotic soon). I wanted to give these shoes a try and so far with about ten-ish hours of play time I currently have no complaints. I'm also currently nursing a right ankle issue; fell off a boulder climbing and landed half on the crash pad, which I'm wearing an ankle stabilizer brace for.

Hey Doc, Thank you so much for the very informative video. It’s good to know that I am getting advice from someone who knows both the medical and performance aspects. You listed many shoes that would work well for hard court sliding. Which would you say are the easiest to slide in and the safest for preventing rolling of the ankle? The issue I have is that I naturally attempt to slide, but the courts I play on are extremely grippy for what every reason. This causes me to end up planting and not sliding. This is an abrupt stop and could result in a really bad injury. I naturally attempt to slide so I think I need to get a shoe that slides really easily and has support to stop rolling of the ankle. Thanks for the help.
@FootDoctorZach3 жыл бұрын
If the courts are gripping a lot then I really wouldn’t try sliding or you could hyperextend your knee, the easiest shoes I’ve seen for sliding though were the solution speeds , gel res 8, and Ubersonics

Hi, Dr. Zach - I have medium to high arches and always have an arch orthotic in all of my shoes for required extra support. I find that to accommodate the orthotic, a half size larger shoe size is needed. Is that common? It pushes me up to a hard to get size 12.5 shoe/sneaker. The good news though is that with the orthotic, my narrow A width feet can wear a normal width (D) shoe - something that is essential because both feet have tailor bunions that require a wider forefoot. I find getting tennis sneakers (actually, any shoes at all) that fit to be a real problem. I just sent back a pair of Asics Gel Dedicate 6 (too big length wise) but kept a pair of New Balance 696v4 even though they run short in the hope that I can break them in. Be well and thanks for your comments and excellent videos.

Is the Gel Resolution 8 wider? Because you mention them as a recommendation for wide feet. Another issue is that I have eczema on my feet as a reaction from sweat and friction of the top of the shoe. I had this with both Adidas and the Asics shoes. Do you perhaps also have recommendations for sensitive feet?

The 7 and 8 are pretty similar, the 8 just comes in a 2E version - Unfortunately with skin conditions anything with the potential to trap heat will cause issues so that’s a lot of tennis shoes, I would think the diadora blushields would be the first shoe I would think of in that area but it may not matter the shoe if the skin condition is intense enough

Morton’s neuroma sufferer here... I’m having a devil of a time finding tennis shoes that will work. The old Nike Cage were pretty good. But their last changed, so I can’t wear the new models. I’m wearing K-Swiss Hypercourt now. Not bad for the neuroma, but not the best support. Any suggestions?

Hey doc great videos. Recently I started playing a lot more frequently and I was still wearing 2 yr old 696 shoes that didn’t offer much cushioning at all anymore. The other day I woke up with really stiff knees and I started feeling pain when I stand one foot and squat down. I’ve now learned so much with your great channel and realized the huge mistake I was making. What tennis shoe would you recommend for the best shock absorption that would cause the least amount of stress on my knees? I’m only 18 so I don’t have any foot, heel, or other pain which is why I’m surprised at this knee pain that’s keeping me off the courts rn. Thank you

Found this page a couple days ago. Best content out there Doc! I'm still in doubt considering my situation. I have achilles tendonitis which is going good since I do yoga on a daily base. I have the gel solution speed 3 clay. Looking for a new pair though since they're done. Looking at all the specs in this great video, I would like to buy the turbo zoom GP, but unfortunately can't find the clay version anymore online. Do you know with the upcoming clay season, Nike is expected to release more variants? I'm 5.7 so would love a shoe that's lightweighted and gives me an option to jump a bit higher on the serve. I'd like a fast shoe which is a bit harder to find with the achilles heel I guess. Should I wait a bit longer for some new releases or is ff2 court the way to go you think?

Thanks for another great video! 👍🏼 a bit surprised that you didn’t recommend Mizuno WAT4 in any category. You only mentioned them few times in a bit negotive contexts. They called shoe of the year for a reason I guess. The only thing I didn’t like in them is that the outsole wears off too fast. But I play mostly on asphalt courts.
