I’ve got this tent too and the ability to use tarp poles and make an awning was so cool!

I got this tent early in the year to replace a 20+ year old eureka. On the very first trip in the red river gorge in Kentucky the wind picked up while I was out hiking and it ripped the guy lines clean off the tent (the fabric loops ripped right off the tent body) and the tent got thrown into the river, along with all my stuff. Some good samaritans rescued my things, but the tent was a complete loss. I had it staked down in every single spot, with the stakes angled 45 degrees outwards, and everything closed, tensioned, etc. I was using snow peak 12" solid steel stakes. The fact that I did everything right and the wind simply ripped the guy line loops off the tent was very concerning. Prospective users beware... Luckily I got it from rei so they accepted my return. Been using an rei basecamp 6 ever since and love it!

DANG!!! That's a huge bummer. We had a Wagontop that got completely wrecked by a wind storm a couple years back. I can't imagine your experience is common place. But doesn't change the fact that it probably sucked and left a bad taste.

Do you think the Basecamp 4 would be overkill for a solo woman on road trips? Had one years ago when they first came out. It's more to set up and take down compared to a small 2 person tent, but it would provide a comfortable abode away from home. Trying to figure out if it's worth it.

@@marilyn2 I am a solo camper with a 6 person tent. I like to be able to stand up inside my tent, do some yoga, have a chair and a spare chair for my friends to visit when it's raining. I am looking at a 4 person tent now,but am starting to question whether to downsize orget another 6 person. Personsally, I like having the extra space.

@@krispytutu Thank you for the comment. I'm still up in the air about traveling with a larger tent. On my long road trips, I often set up for just one night. There are some places I stay longer and a roomier tent would be so nice. For a quick set-up and take-down, the small tent is quick and easy. But getting in and out of it is awkward. I'd like an in-between size, but haven't found what I want.
@krispytutu3 ай бұрын
@@marilyn2 I totally understand that. I went from a 2 person to a 6 because I got stuck in a multi-day rainstorm in my backpacking tent while car camping. The only tall tents at the time were 6 person tents. It is a bit to set it up and for one night, it really would be a pain. It's a pain on multi-day trips, but dang, it's worth it for that. I'd like 4 person, tall tent for shorter trips though. It would make set-up a whole lot easier.

I bought and returned that tent. It's a great tent but I really wanted to see zippers on those side windows for wind driven rain.

This is a cool tent and I really like those side windows but I think the Big Agnes Bunkhouse 6 beats it, primarily because the front vestibule is so big 2-3 people could sit under it in the rain and remain dry...best vestibule I've ever seen. There's also a normal decent sized vestibule in the back.

Great tent. I was looking into the Wagontop from Nemo. I'm sure the high rise can handle more serious weather by its design n we know it's childproof lol
@BackcountryExposure Жыл бұрын
Thanks! The Wagontop has been discontinued. We've also been using the Wagontop 8P for several years, but it ultimately lost a battle with a windstorm and got pretty beat up. Still usable, but a lot of holes in the body fabric. That tent is awesome, but I like the highrise a little more.

Is the Nemo blanket(s) you use to protect/cover the floor cover the entirety of the floor area or just a portion of it?
@BackcountryExposure Жыл бұрын
The once we've got is a little bigger than the tent floor, but it covers the entire space. It's the victory blanket.

What are the stakes like that come with the tent? Are they good or would they need to be replaced?

Wow that is a really decent price for a 6p tent! Great overview! I think you’ve got a great series going with the car camping vids. Def an inspiration for me and my vids. I’m curious how you baton down the hatches for wind? Ik you had another one in the past that the wind trashed. Do you have a bunch of guy lines you stake down? Do you need a drone permit for the X1?
@BackcountryExposure Жыл бұрын
Thanks! There are additional guy out points at each pole. The X1 is under the 250g weight for a drone, so can be flown without needing a license. But obviously follow general drone laws and rules.

I am surprised that a driving rain on those side windows kept the interior dry. Are their drainage holes at the bottom of the window so rainwater does not pool. (Sorry, I am a bit sceptical)

Nice review, but no word on whether there is strength to hang a light from the center of the ceiling 😢 Night time tent lighting is always a problem. The drone shots were nice but there were no ceiling shots.

@@26parma I have a Springbar Campsite 3. I love it. I don't like pounding in the stakes; it's heavy, but otherwise, it's very easy to set up, no rainfly to wrestle with. I've been trying to find a lightweight, compact nylon tent I like. The Aurora looks quite nice, but I have some concerns that others have brought up, and I think it would actually be more challenging to set up solo.
