@@CarSVernon "Something to Dance About" is a delightful piece but it's much more acrobatic, with the stairs and the barrels and his tap and her ballet moves. It really matters not, I love Vera Ellen in anything. Adore & think Donald O'Conner was underrated in Hollywood. Have the upmost respect for Bing Crosby, but Danny Kaye (being the 3rd choice as his partner) was perfect in this role. I love Danny Kaye's body of work. Of course, speaking of dancing, one cannot leave out Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire. Both utterly amazing, each different in their own way. I think you now understand why my name is what it is, bc I love old movies, especially musicals. I remember everything about the day I first saw this movie when it was in the theaters just before Christmas in 1954. When we went in, it was totally dry outside, but when we left, there was 4 inches of snow! To me this movie has always been magical, and with the two sisters, is it any wonder I fell in love with blondes? Ironically many years later, in Tacoma, WA, I helped a fellow save the remainder of Bing Crosby's items (pipes, toupees, memorabilia, etc.) that were stored in an old warehouse, in the very same city where Bing was born. Those items ended up at Gonzaga University, and were saved from being thrown on an auction block to help create a rocker's tribute in Seattle. Sure glad we got there in time!

Jay, I agree with you...I first saw this movie at the age of 8 (1975), going through a rough time...and it was the first time I saw Rosemary and heard her sing, she was beautiful (and as she got older she was still beautiful to me) her voice was calming and full of warmth, and her singing was just the same...I became a huge fan & fell in love with her...really wanted her as a 'big' sister...I finally got to see her live in concert in 1994...and with this dance scene I fell in love with Danny, and wished he would twirl me around the floor that way! :)

My favorite dance between Vera and Danny

The underrated voice and dancing talents of Danny Kaye. Like Donald O'Connor, he was one of the best, both vocally and with his feet. One of my favorite dance sequences in ANY movie. Not to mention the wonderful Vera Ellen.

Great performance. Not being known for his dancing, he sure does darn well.....and, of course, Vera is spectacular as always. You can see how he "shows off the girl", and "she shows off the dance"....a good rule dancing couples follow doing a routine. Thanks for the terrific upload.

Not being known for his dancing?? Look up some others of his movies, or from his variety show, and you will see why he was known for his dancing, singing, comedy, drama, and anything I have not mentioned.

+John M Vera Ellen was chosen for her part because she was a professional dancer by trade. Danny Kaye may have been chosen because he also had a background in dancing and singing.

@@mytahoma I know what you mean but, in truth, he was not known specifically as a dancer in the vein of a Fred Astaire or a Gene Kelly or a Donald O'Connor. He had danced on the Borscht Belt and in Vaudeville and learned on the job. As far as I'm aware, he never took dance training as would a professional dancer. But this only makes his abilities all the more remarkable. I don't think John M was in any way taking anything away from Danny Kaye's mesmerizing talent

Vera Ellen doesn’t sing period. Her singing is dubbed. But that’s okay. She dances beautifully.

This is my favourite movie by paramount who was not known for musicals they did alright Danny is marvellous Vera’s dress in this is gorgeous but take a moment to admire rosemary in the blue my fav scene and the scene Danny and bing do with sisters gorgeous

Watch closely starting at 3:30 when Vera-Ellen twirls around behind Danny Kaye and kicks his foot- she recovers nicely though. She was so graceful about it, though, that no one at the time of filming even caught it!
