Wow! I never got over to the other side of Maria Island- back when I used to go there, they didn’t have the bike rental & people didn’t tend to take bikes over & yes - Maria island IS the best place in Tasmania

Hey guys - Looks like a similar situation like Rottnest island - taking you bike over to get around and those wombats were just gorgeous! I need to travel more in Tassie - Only been there for the 70klm 6 day Overland Trek / Cradle mountain hike !

Hi Guys Thanks for the vid. Is there a good place to leave the van on mainland Tassie while spending a couple of days on the island? I like the idea of exploring the island by bike, we have a bike packing setup is this achievable? Thanks Steve

Hi Steve, you can leave you van at the marine area. If you are unsure, just pop into the Maria Island tourism centre which is at the marina and ask where would be best. They are really helpful. With your bike, absolutely. I met a few ladies over there riding around Tasmania with a bikepacking set up. Have a great time. :)

We were there for 3 nights and 4 days. We thought that was a great amount of time. We explored the whole island by bike (we bought ours over) and camped at the campground. :)

Absolutely. Many people come over for a day trip. They will hike up bishop and clerk. When you get down complete the Fossil Cliffs Circuit. Then you can visit the painted cliffs before returning to the ferry. You can do all that on foot but it will be a full day. Definitely take the first ferry of the day and get the last one back to give you more time. :)

Do they still have accommodation in the penitentiary at Darlington? Bunks - but dry & they used to have pot belly stoves….
