This is real KIS - Keep It Simple. Best solution I found, no short distances, no special parts etc. And on top - the most inexpensive solution of all.

Simple, elegant, inexpensive. I like it. Perfect if you're doing a project that requires a lot of inserts. Allows you to do your work sitting down comfortably instead of having to do it standing up and strain your neck. Only improvement I can think of is to modify the clamp to allow quick installation and removal of the soldering iron.

Man… not only a fantastic idea, but excellent build techniques. Love the detailed thought process you revealed during the build. Hearing creatives like yourself explain flow is enlightening. Gives me an idea on my mini jeweler’s torch for silver solder and small melts. Quick… to the shop 😂 Thanks for sharing !

I've used tapping machines like this, great build! While the machinist in me likes how perpendicular a drill press style is, realistically this is way more practical for most uses

You're right, it is brilliant! I subscribed to your channel after seeing how genius this is. The problem with all the drill press type designs out there is that if you've got a part wider than the capacity of the drill press, then you're just out of luck! Your idea here has a capacity that virtually cannot be exceeded with the size of prints that our machines are currently capable of printing. Thanks for sharing this great idea!

I was going to go with the drill press style but, like you mentioned, I started to worry about how I would use it if I had an insert far away from the boundaries of the part. This is a very elegant and simple solution. Really Glad I found this.

Have you thought about putting an adjustable stop on it so you can set each insert to an equal depth? Just a thought don’t know if you think it’s necessary.

Thanks for your brilliant idea. I did have a bit of a problem keeping the iron vertical so I eliminated the piece between the custom-made soldering Iron bracket and the arm. I designed the piece that holds the soldering iron so that it connects directly to the arm thus totally eliminating any possibility of rotating. Works great thanks again for the great idea.

Would you mind elaborating on this? I’m also having trouble with the handle moving around and not staying level. Did you post your design on thingiverse or printables by chance? I’d love to see what you mean, I think I’m having a hard time visualizing where you attached it. Thank you!

thats cool but never understood why people need gadgets like these. I just hand hold the iron and never once was I so far off that a screw didnt work afterwards.
Do you even need threaded inserts? Strength tested!
