Perfect! I'll be there the entire month of February after spending January in Bangkok. My first time visiting Thailand. 🙏🏼 Thanks so much for this overview and for the link to the Koh Samui Guide website!

Awesome. You will love it here. I lived in Chiang Mai for about 5 months during the pandemic. It ticks a lot of the boxes for me but I really need to be close to a beach to satisfy my overall quality of life. Let me know when you're in Samui 😊

I'm coming back to my condo in Hua Hin for the winter from November to March, so I'll probably pop down to Koh Samui in January or February for a couple of weeks. Let me know if you'd like to meet up for a beer.

Sure that would be cool! Hopefully I'm still here next year.

Great video. Are there any good alternatives for october and november when its rainy in Koh Samui? Maybe going to Malaysia for a while?
@AbroadInThailand6 ай бұрын
Plenty of alternatives. I recommend a trip over to Da Nang Vietnam for a few weeks. I was just there recently and there's a lot to love in this beach city. I also hear nothing but good things about Kuala Lumpur but it's too much hustle and bustle for me. The Philippines is definitely worth a trip as well.

Can you do a video on which hotels provide motorbike rental? I prefer not to rent from a motorbike shop. Some local small hotels seem to offer motorbike rental. I once rent one in Krabi from a hotel. It feels less likely to have any disputes.

Hey Mike , this is Mark from the US, I like you videos. But this one is too long, you can make it a litlle shorter. I disagree with you September is rainy month, I have been there in September, I would not recommend September if you like the sun and the beach.

November is rainy season. I’ve been visiting for 30 years and now I live near Lamai. September is usually one of the best times to visit, though there can be occasional exceptions as you have observed.

April to October SW monsoon season, May/June to Augusti is general rainy season for the whole of Thailand. With the exception of Samui that lies in the rain shadow of the mainland (SW remember). So in late October when the monsoon shifts Samui is all open for the NE monsoon moving across the bay of Siam dumping all it's rainy goodness on Samui. Now SW Samui is in the rainshadow of NE so recieve less then Lamai and MaeNam. However when the monsoon weakens in late September some low pressure systems not pushed by strong winds kind of floats around in the air bypassing the mountains and arrive to Samui from South with many days of slow drizzle hitting SW and whole island... soft rain, slow.

เกาะ = gaw = island. short vowel, low tone. one of the most commonly mispronounced words in Thailand. if you're living there id suggest a language coach. high season blows, swamped with tourists, prices double.

Thanks for the tip on pronunciation. I live here year-round for the moment, maybe that will change but I honestly doubt it, tax or no tax.
