Couldn't get this to work in logic pro the exact same way. I came up with my own solution for anyone else having problems. This may work the same in other daws. Make your Opus player Multitimbral with 16 tracks. Once you create your arrangement on the main track with Orchestrator, play it all through once. Drag from the REC hand to the unused tracks. Mute your original clip so that it doesn't play next to it. This will break everything out the same way. Note: let's say if woodwinds only uses 3 out of 4 of it's slots, you'll have to move all of your midi tracks down one spot to compensate for the blank track (or anywhere else that there is a group with a no instrument slot), otherwise it throws everything off. If anyone knows how to do it another way in logic, please let me know. This takes about the same amount of time, except you'll have to adjust for blank slots like I said.

Now it has even acquired a little academic character. All presets were, I think, made by professionals who know orchestration very well. For me, it's incredible that I can learn this even better now. I always had problems with placing the violas correctly because of the notation. Now you can see all that beautifully. And not only that, you now have the option to create a simple initial mockup for the sound you need. A big praise to EastWest!!!!

I'm on Windows 10 and Reaper 7. I got this trick to work but... The imported tracks don't sound. They need an instrument to be assigned to them manually. Each track has a different channel. I only use channel 1 because I only have one external device (my Arturia keyboard) and it sends on channel 1. It doesn't receive, so no problems there.

This is great, especially for having automatically the right instruments name. I used to do the same midi drag&drop operation with The Orchestra by Sonuscore, but in that case you only get generic "Track1-2-3" names, so you have to scroll all the patches you used and copy the instrument/articulation name one by one, by hand. Just bought Opus a couple of days ago, taking advantage of their 75% discount, so thank you for the priceless tip!

I’m having a major issue with this and I’m not seeing anyone else having it. I let my entire 2 minute track play out in cubase and I’m following everything from this video, but when I drag the midi from Opus, it’s only recorded like 30 seconds of the actual orchestrator midi and has cut off at a random point in the orchestrator recording as if I’d stopped and started recording. I have no idea what’s doing this because I’m following everything else perfectly fine, it just doesn’t drag over the midi of the entire track

Ableton Live 10 checking in. It exports all the clips to blank midi tracks, but the clips are all named correctly like in the video. I'm not sure if it's me, but when using the orchestrator ensemble patches the expression control doesn't do anything. CC1 works fines, and maybe it's some deep setting I don't have set up properly, but I was thinking this feature might be a way to work around that. Regardless, this will be great for layering string shorts and such with other libraries.

@@tomdavis9696 I have to admit I'm no expert on dorico. But make sure that you have setup the dynamics correctly. Most patches in Opus are controlling the dynamics by CC11, not CC1. You also have to create your own expression maps in order to get all the sounds out of the expressions, then create a setup in opus that corresponds to that map. My video on how to create expression maps in cubase, might be helpful there. I hope you figure it out. Maybe someone has already created expressions maps for opus in dorico? Cheers!

How do we find the KEY of the performance patches ? (Especially in SILK) 2. How to TRANSPOSE those performances to a Key we want ? Many Many thanks for taking time for us & the great job you are doing. I too was really down with Covid & recovered recently. Again, wish you health & Peace.. Cheers :)

Hello, I'm glad you are better. Well, silk is an upcoming video, even though that one might take a while. I don't want to leave you hanging, but at the moment I have no good answer I'm afraid. If I find a good answer I'll let you know.

@@SecondTierSound Hey dear Sam.. Thanks a ton for taking the time to reply. Eargerly waiting for your upcoming videos. This matter had been such a trouble for me with SILK & POP BRASS .. Wish we could clearly transpose & use those like typical Kontakt libraries out there. Hope you'd showcase the MOR series some days as well. 🤓 Do take care & stay safe as another deadly form of covid is on the rise.. God bless & Best..Love from Sri Lanka..🥇🥇👍👍🤓

How did you get the colours to import please? When I do this my tracks are grey.

You have set this in the preferences of your DAW. It is a cubase thing. It follows the color rules of the DAW, not opus colors.

The first few times this worked wonderfully, but now I suddenly have the problem you mentioned, that Cubase assigns "General Midi" to the newly created midi tracks everywhere and not Oput. And strangely enough, I can't change that either. When I click on the Device in the Inspector, nothing happens. And when I click on General Midi to change it, it only shows me the track list of the existing song but no VST device selection. So for the life of me I can't get Opus set anymore. What can I do about it? And of course I checked in the preferences wether "Midi tracks" is set. It is.

Hello. I have noticed that the orchestrator can be a little "iffy" at times. If you have set it to "midi tracks" in preferences that is all good. But... Sometimes, after you have dragged out the "hand" from the orchestrator to create tracks, I have noticed that the output routing (on the midi tracks) in the inspector gets defaulted to "Microsoft GS Wavetable synth", and so you won't hear anything, or it will sound like crap. Click on this field and change this to "Opus Midi Input". You don't have to change anything else. You can also change all the midi tracks at once, by selecting all the track and then hold down alt+shift (on windows) as you change the output routing to "Opus Input". I have also noticed that the problem won't reappear in this project after you have done this, it will work from now on. It is like you have to "remind" opus what to do... That is all I know. If you have further problems, I hope that Steinberg or EastWest can help you. Cheers!

@@SecondTierSound Thanks for your quick reply - helped me too. Nevertheless, Cubase sucks here somehow, but these quirks I'm used to. I probably should have stuck with Studio One after all, haha.

I have seen this feature mentioned in another youtube video however you explained it better and mentioned some additional setup steps . I find your videos very helpful . what is the model of studio desk in the background of your videos? One of my clients was asking.

Actually, it is just a desk from IKEA. I was looking for one and just found this one by chance, and it is great. I'm afraid I don't know the name, but it has unique (but not great) small shelves for speakers.

In your DAW you ALSO need to make sure the NEW Midi Tracks you created are using the SAME Midi Channels that are in the Orchestrator. This was recent update in January that EW kind of "snuck in". :)

@@SecondTierSound Hey! Thanks for sharing this tip! This is going to be so useful. I have a small issue, I'm also using Cubase but for some reason, I can't seem to link the newly created midi tracks to the orchestrator. Am I missing something to do so?

Great tip, really!! Unfortunately, I can't get it to work as shown in Reaper. Went through the Preferences in detail and didn't see an option like one shown in the video... So, in Reaper the drag and drop creates all tracks from the orchestrator's score, with names of instruments and midi items in the tracks - so the tip works as far as midi is concerned, but it does not load any of the samples, it does not load opus instances for each track, Then, in order to get a sound out of these tracks, I have to manually open an opus instance in each track, with the sample in it, etc. In a nutshell, with the drag and drop shown in the video I only get a template with the midi items in the tracks but without the opus instances / samples being populated in the tracks. Any ideas?

I'm afraid not. Maybe East West were silent about this because they knew it didn't work on all DAWs. Let them know, and hopefully thet will update.

Yes, I've had this problem in Reaper also. Very cool tip, and at least you get the MIDI data, but I really wanted to use it also for quickly creating my VST setups too. Unfortunately that doesn't work in Reaper.

I'm gonna guess that none of the midi tracks are set to their appropriate channels. So you might need to go in and match up the channels to the ones in the Opus plugin. You might even need to then point those files to the Opus plugin track

Hi Sam, I tried your technique with Ableton Live Suite. When you drag the recording, midi tracks are opened, but the sounds are not loaded. I contacted East West to tell me how to use the copy and drag function. This is their response: "There's not any specific manual on using it in Ableton - the Orchestrator midi drag/drop does just copy midi data over - you would need to load up instruments on those additional tracks to then be able to have sounds playing on the exported midi tracks though." Perhaps I am missing something. I do get the MIDI, but no sound. Thanks for your wonderful KZbin Channel,
