Cool video, but I’d rather follow the ball back to my corner so that right as my teammate goes for it, I can backflip into it and center it in front of our net.
@JamesHarrison-wl4ud5 жыл бұрын
U wud lose u momentum backflipping, and if u want to have good speed, u might wanna collect some boost pads instead. By waiting for the opposing team to hit the ball, u may also have the chance of catching them off guard with a counter attack. Well thought out, this truly is the best tip in the rocket league. Thanks musty

@@SelfishGamer_ Honestly, I had a nice example today of one of those things I hate most. I am Diamond 1, I was playing 3v3 standard. I notice one of my teammates is constantly bumperhumping me or our other teammate, on top of him missing a lot of (easy) hits. They were a party of 2. End of match, we lost, and guess what? this dude that was playing terribly turned out to be a fucking gold 1 player. Seriously, how can psyonix allow a fucking party where one is diamond and the other is gold? It really baffles me. The other side of that coin as well is that RL will consider 2 diamonds evenly matched against one gold player and a fucking grandchamp (or something stupid like that)... And then you just sit there getting roflstomped by the grandchamp scratching your head. One thing I also notice a lot is that when someone on your team is hesitating a bit too much I get impatient and want to take the play from him (cuz it's obvious he isn't going to make it) but the moment I start going for it HIS play gets challenged succesfully and the ball goes flying over my head because I am now 'out of position'. I know I'm supposed to wait for my teammate to fuck up his play so it becomes my turn but having to BRAKE and STOP and sit there while you were doing a lovely supersonic wide angle turn like Musty talks about in this vid really fucks over your ability to deal with the next play and really makes you angry at your incompetent teammate for not just committing to a play when it was his turn.

THIS. This is what I always repeat and try to teach to my teammates, but no, this simple gamechanging mechanic seems too complicated. Like when I'm in the net waiting to go get the ball in the corner, there's always one who screwed up his challenge, turned around, and came back supersonic, taking all the boosts on his way to end up at the near post, do another turnaround right in front of my face to go on the ball. every. freaking. time. I was c3 div 3 before watching this vid , i hopped on some 2s games after watching this and i really tried to force my self to rotate far post even tho id *LOVE* to sometimes just turn around and challenge the ball and i literrally won 10 games in a row and im 1540 in 2s now lol. Alexandre S good question. generally in 1v1s or in situations where you don’t have a teammate to rotate behind (when you’re last man back) you actually want to position on the near post and get into a solid shadowing position. i talk about the shadowing position in the beginning of this video: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/aH20iYGYl9mMj8U

i knew how to respond and what the correct way was in those first 3 examples, but in that last one i always struggle. I assume they would try to move the play towards the goal and either way i would be driving straight through their path, but this shows that (as experienced in most my games) they will go towards the corner to be safe and keep ball control and allow me to rotate back into a good spot. Tyvm for that last example cause it sure cleared up my doubts ^^

Great video, the only change I would've made is making it clearer earlier in the video of what defines the near post vs the far post. For someone with no context, for a few minutes it was muddled whether it was defined by the position of your teammate or the position of the ball. Eventually it became clear that the ball defines near post and far post though, so by the end the explanation was still effective!

I feel like my positioning has improved so much with both shadowing and rotating to far post. Far post is the easiest way to rotate around my team mates without communications so simple yet so effective.

Musty can you follow it up with how to deal with when you teammates make nearpost rotation.
@nicholas84765 жыл бұрын
Ramkumar Radhakrishnan IMHO: Doesn’t really change YOUR objective. If your opponents have ball possession and your teammate rotated towards you, your goal is to first and foremost prevent a clean shot on goal and buy time for your teammate to get back into a good defensive position. In this, typically you wanna challenge early and get the ball to either cross the field (ideal if your teammate rotates to bear post side) or go high in the air, again, more to buy time than to begin an offensive play. Bottom line, you wanna stop a shot on goal and force the opponent to throw away the ball. If you successfully cross the ball to other side of the field, your teammate is in a better position to challenge next from near post. If your teammate is rotating near post, it just means less of the field is covered and he’s gonna lose momentum and time, turning to challenge the next shot and you’re prolly gonna end up defending a shot on your goal. Also messes up the boost rotation somewhat. Same concept applies to 2s and 3s..

it's really simple and easy when you watch the video, its almost like "duh of course you should do that" but since iv seen this video i have caught myself and my friends not doing far posts rotations and saw how easy it is to be enticed by boost or to tell yourself "I can still do something with this ball" even when the better option is to let your teammate who has the better shot go for it. Iv noticed also that the far post rotation helps the person who is rotating see the entire play better and it helps create better decision making. i showed this video to my friends who i play with and after a few practice games we won 6 straight 2v2 games and i moved up to Gold 3 div 4. we still made rotation mistakes here and there but there was no better feeling than when we did the proper rotation and that decision making almost instantly lead to a goal.

Great video, but there are some exceptions to this. One common example is centered around the timing of your rotation. If your 1 is about to hit the ball across field to 2, then it might be more advantageous to rotate ball side (before it gets hit) so you'll be far side and ready to follow up 2's upcoming play (after hit). Generally speaking, rotate opposite to the *play* for more opportunities to maintain offensive pressure.

Super tip that I've been practicing for a while ! It makes sense : if you rotate to the side where the ball is, you'll just follow it towards your half but will never be able to counter it properly lel Second nice tip I have (that everybody should know I guess) : dont cut your rotation to try to hit the ball, your mates will often have a better angle than you to counter attack! Or you can cut your rotation to try to block the ball, to give time to your mates to properly go back and get boost
