THank you for this video. I wanted to buy the PRX when it was released a years ago, but didnt like how it looks on my wrist (most because of how the bracelete makes the watch looks bigger). This PRX made of forgged carbon fiber looks so good to me that Im really thinking about buying it, algo se strap seems that doesnt make the watch look bigger as the bracelete does.
@ronaldvangulden73142 ай бұрын
Love the new PRX in forged carbon. I wonder if the strap is the same width as the steel 40mm version as the forged carbon PRX is slightly bigger. I would love to put it on an orange rubber strap.

I haven't been hands on with the Colchester but there's a lot I like about it on paper - especially the recessed crown and the fact that it's COSC certified. I only wish they hadn't obscured the movement with the Parachute Regiment badge (even though it's a cool unit to be associated with).

You’re saying the movement is serviceable, but most likely only my Tissot and even then they’ll most likely toss it and replace it with a new unit. So which is it really ?
@Horizontalvertigo2 ай бұрын
It's a bit of an open secret that outside of really complicated and vintage watches, the economics of actually servicing a watch just aren't there. There's a massive shortage of qualified watchmakers, so the lead times on services and repairs are massive. It's not just Tissot, I've heard rumours of brands up to the Tudor range and beyond just outright chucking movements. Beyond that, the main issue with the Powermatic80 compared to the base sellita movement is that to streamline production Swatch made some of the sub-assemblies drop in casette components. So, fundamentally, yes, you can take apart and service a Powermatic80, even if some of the parts are designed to just be replaced as sub-assemblies, however Swatch doesn't really like to give out parts to independent watchmakers, so you can struggle to find people who can work on the movement. It's like you can technically have your Powermatic80s recalibrated. However you need to have a proprietary machine to do it. And only Swatch really has those machines. So until the patents expire and 3rd party suppliers can fill the gap, it can be a struggle to service the movement. That said, it's a pretty bombproof movement, so /shrug
@Robert-vw3od2 ай бұрын
The prx has always been a little bit too cheap for me. I would love them to take away the powermatic 80 and upgrade the watch
@The_RealStarkIndustries2 ай бұрын
Yeah, that actually exists and it’s made by Zenith and countless other high-end brands who offer integrated case designs. The PRX is an affordable, gateway watch which is why it’s been such a hit.

Since forged carbon is essentially resin with carbon chunks and that the watch does not appear to have any coating, I wonder how vulnerable to scratches it is. Unlike its stainless steel counterparts, you can't have a badly scratched forged carbon watch re-finished!

They need to delete date window or move it to 6 position
@call1a1rich2 ай бұрын
so it‘s forged carbon. is it still around a plastic escapement..?
@Escapement242 ай бұрын
At this price point and if you get 10 years of enjoyment and reliable running out of it, does it really matter? As I understand, Omega uses Delrin in some of its movements, which is a plastic compound, as does Zenith. It's known for being extremely hard wearing.
@Escapement242 ай бұрын
Actually just checked and the higher end version of the PM80 used in this watch does NOT use any synthetic/plastic parts. The lower end versions (e.g. as used in the Blancpain x Swatch) use a plastic pallet fork and balance wheel.

Can someone explain to me why this is 50% more expensive? To my knowledge, „forged carbon“ is basically leftovers (trash) from carbon fiber production mixed with resin either pressed in to dyes or CNC milled and then given its fancy marketing name that makes it sounds super high end. It does not have the strength of carbon fiber. I habe the feeling thag machining a stainless steel watch + bracelet should be more expensive than this rubber band forged carbon model. I really like the looks I have to admit though!
@Escapement24Ай бұрын
It's around 30% more than the steel version. Forged carbon watch cases have to have a steel "core" or frame under the carbon shell, so it's a more complex construction. The shell is relatively inexpensive to produce but the tooling for the moulds is expensive and I believe there's a high failure rate, which I guess has to be factored in to the overall cost. But undoubtedly some of the extra cost will be because they feel it can be sold for a premium over the steel version.

Great video, Simon! Hands on is the only way to do a review. I hope that as channel grows you’d be able to get more pieces in for a review. It just shows what a brand can do with Swatch power behind it. Forged carbon case, and silicon spring for under 1k. It’s safer for Swatch to experiment with lower tier brands before bringing innovations upmarket. Cheers! 🥃

Got my PRX Carbon Yesterday. After 48 hours, nah, not worth it; for a black design, it's too many sparks, and it cheapens the look. An open case back doesn't make sense, and there is nothing to look at. Make it black, and it will be a different story. I don't like polished indices or polished date windows. It's just not working for me. The build quality is decent, but in general, It feels like a toy watch. So, this watch is going back to tissot
