I am a believer in balanced lights. Most time though, I am growing several different plants so it isn’t practical to use different lights. I also buy cheap light bars with about 10w per foot (30w per meter). So, for my short tower I run (4) 3ft (1meter) lights at about 16” (40 cm). I do sometimes dim the lights to acclimate plants, but try to run the lights hard for most grows. This doesn’t represent the highest light that could be run. I think you could double up these lights and be OK, though dimming and acclimation would be more critical. These lights cost me just $10 each instead of the $325 you are paying. It is hard to recoup such a high cost for lights growing vegetables. I also can’t justify the electrical cost beyond the 120w (pump is another 6w)I am running for the vegetables.

I too use inexpensive strip lights for a few of my gardens. I use standard led bulbs in quite a few as well. Cost means nothing, it is all about the PPFD. making sure your LED's fall within the photosynthetically active radiation spectrum then optimizing the photon density through high output low pull diodes will give you a GREAT yield. It sound like you don't flower on your tower? I would assume if you are using lights with such low wattage. The reason I recommend a dimmer is because the plant will stretch and bolt if given intense lighting all of the time. The lights that I recommend are for flowering and growing serious fruit and veg. Just like with cannabis, some plants require up too 1500umols of light energy (tomatoes, peppers etc.) if You want the BEST lights to get the biggest harvest, you will need a light capable of delivering at least 1300umols @12inches. I stumbled across this video thinking it was something else but still informative. I have a 3d printed tower I haven't started yet. But when you mentioned having cats I thought you could help with a concern I have. What do you do about your cat/s not nibbling on the plants? Is that even an issue for you? And do you have any advice? Thanks.

Well I'm glad you found me either way! so, my cats, yeah, they love certain plants, cilantro, basil, dill, and my greens. So, I do 2 things. First I grow all my vines and larger plants like tomatoes, jalapenos etc. on the bottom 2 rows and the rest above that. You may have a super tenacious cat that will try to climb up, in which case, best of luck....

​@@nil0bject So true! but, most people don't put a tower garden inside a grow tent. That is a great idea though, would have to be a pretty massive tent for 20 plants to grow, but hey, I'd give it a try. 🤙
