Will the 400 trimmer head work on a Ryobi straight combi shaft weed trimmer, manufactured in 2016, with a full crank motor number RY251PH? It has an arbor pin or shaft that is threaded on the inside, with a bolt that screws into the arbor shaft that holds everything together, instead of being threaded on the outside of the arbor shaft. If the 400 will work, what arbor adapter do I need to use? Oh yeah, you can laugh at me for buying a Ryobi, it's OK. I've been using it since 2016 to trim my 1+ acres and it keeps on trimmin, but the trimmer head is now cracked and needs replacement. Thank you for all the great videos and detailed instructions!🙂👍

Im older and I always used line replacement time to take a sit down break with a cold ice tea, a smoke and too refeed some more line. Now the mrs who loves to watch me work, says, I bought you the speed feed so it would help you get done faster, but it still takes you the same amount of time to finish as the old head. I said... Oh....I thought you got the speed feed so I could enjoy more of my breaks... Besides I can't fill it with my hands full.... Raising tea in one hand and a smoke in the other, with a big smile on my face! Lol

The factory head for my 1994 McCulloch Pro-Mac III Super weed trimmer never worked right. I used a variety of simple trimmer heads (adding pieces of line or plastic blades as you trim) over the years (decades). I decided to give the Speed Feed 400 head a try today. The gold arbor fit perfectly. I did some major trimming with it right away. It is a great trimmer head! Made my 27 year old trimmer seem like a new machine!

I changed over to this type of head a couple years ago. So much easier than the old type that came on my brush cutters. So glad I watched your video, I didn't know about the greasing of the head. My original Sach's 330 brush cutter I did install zerk fittings in the shaft. That worked very well for the shaft lube but over time the rubber bushing inside the tube started slipping.

Recently started watching your videos. Very informative. And thank you for sharing your knowledge. I am going to change out my trimmer head to the speed feed. It is sooo much easier than the conventional one. I saw your video on loading the two different heads. You were the only one who mentioned the length of the new line to use. My Stihl straight shaft's owners manual doesn't tell you what length to use which I found odd. Thanks for all your help, Ray from Central Ohio.

I bought the Echo 400 Speed Feed head, which looks identical to this one. It fitted directly onto my Greenworks trimmer, without having to take anything apart. To make the plastic cap last longer from all that bumping, drill a hole through the center and attach a large metal washer, with a nut and bolt.

One favor… I bought a speedfeed 400 (used your links), mounted it on my Honda straight shaft HHT35S. The pre-loaded string was barely sticking out of the head before I installed the head, but in the process of mounting the head, it disappeared inside the head. No instructions on how to get it back out. Any thoughts? 3 mins later… Oh, press the two release catches, then take apart. I removed the pre-loaded line put it all back together, and reloaded the line. Yay! I’m a big boy now! Thank you sooo much for your channel/input/support!

Your videos have been beneficial. Please keep them coming. I'm pretty sure it took you much longer to list the brands and model numbers than it took to produce your video. I found a Zerk fitting that fits the grease hole and makes greasing an easy chore. For those who want to know. These grass trimmers', with gas engines, need to be broken in. I would also recommend NOT using 10/15 methanol gas as it will harm the engine.

Thank you so much for this video. I have a Stihl straight shaft trimmer and bought the Speed Feed 400 for it. I watched at least four different videos about how to install the SF 400 on the Stihl. None of them were specific on the “black” vs “white” insert or the “green” vs “gold” arbor or the “L” vs “R” orientation of the spool, so all summer I had difficulty getting the line to feed. I thought I was going to prematurely destroy the cap - trying to get it to feed. I saw you video and it turned out that I had the “white” insert in place with the “green” arbor and the spool was oriented with the “R” away from the head. WRONG! I took it apart and followed your video. Now the. SF 400 works like a dream. Again, thank you so much! You are a real asset to us unskilled homeowner types.

Do any of those numbers mentioned represent an electric or battery trimmer? I do not need a gas powered one. I see they made one, Shindaiwa T3000W, but it does not show up on their web store so I suppose it is discontinued?

@@SirLunchalot2 I know the 300 works well with the Ryobi line of battery powered equipment. The 400 and 450 is a little too much, but it'll work.

You know what amuses me is, I always run out of line at the start of the job, never at the end. Every single time! I just get started, get into the groove, make my way along one fence line and boom, line's gone! No drama anymore with the speedfeed though. Whoever invented these is a damn genius. Love them. Great tip from another viewer about putting the bolt through the centre of the cap to make it last longer too. Really enjoying the channel, it's so cool to see a chick(anic) getting into it and getting her hands dirty. I have to say, as good a mechanics as they are, you're much easier on the eye than Steve or Don too, especially when you smile.... sorry fellas lol! Subscribed!

You just never know when to expect that! So if I'm not working right near the truck where the line is stashed, I pull off a refill length, roll it up and carry it in my pocket for "just in case".

I happened across your channel about three weeks ago, this video in particular. I have been plagued by issues with my Ryobi trimmer head and a couple of different replacements just not working well. The stock head was just junk....wadded line up inside, causing it to snap and forcing disassembly to get it going again. The solid plastic blade things were also pretty much useless, breaking off all the time. The one where you have to put new short lengths of line in when they wear down was a bit better, but a monumental pain in the butt. Then I went and got a Speed Feed 400 for the trimmer. Hallelujah!! It works beautifully, doesn't wad the line up, pure tap'n'go joy. Now I see why Echo uses them as OEM equipment. The thing is just brilliant. Thanks for putting this out there, for me and the rest of us who struggle with crap trimmer heads.

Thank You Bre. My Echo SRM 225 came with the Speed Feed head. the spring following my winter cleaning and maintenance of lawn equipment, my trimmer would not feed line. Very FRUSTRATING. After watching this video, I checked my head and found that I had reinstalled it backwards. After correcting that, the trimmer works and trims like a champ. Thank you for saving me TIME, MONEY and a TON of FRUSTRATION. You're the BEST!

Been a groundsman/ gardener for nearly 30 years, I can re fill my trimmer head on my stihl 430 manual feed head ( I don't do bump feed heads) in less than 30 seconds, if I precut line for 24 ft beforehand. My present head I have has been on my trimmer since 2010, and could probably do another 10 years....... great to see you show the correct way to grease the gear head 👍🏻👍🏻 Excellent as always, greetings from the 🇬🇧

Took me awhile to fine this. Completely agree with great design of this trimmer head. Did NOT know about aligning arrows and hole! So obvious NOW! Thank you. I did find that install process instructions were confusing. So many parts in the package. Figured it out with some trial and error. My Echo straight shaft was a simple out of the package and install just as you said.

I found the 'Echo' branded Model 400 at my local Echo dealer (and a little cheaper than online stores.) Installing it was "Easy Peasy." The local dealer had one already set up for my Curved Shaft Echo GT2000. Getting the original OEM head off took some persuasion though. In all, it was about a 20 minute process (with 15 of those minutes spent getting the old head off.) Thanks for the great tip! 😎

That sure does look nice and easy to use. However the stock head on the Husqvarna is also easy to use and has been working very well for 12 years for me so I'm gonna stick with that, at least as long as it works well. If it ever breaks I may try the shindaiwa head.

Regarding those forces that work to prevent lawns from being mowed - they walk among us, seeking out the mowers and trimmers you most rely on; their mission is to make sure your tools will not work when it is most critical that the lawn be mowed immediately, and they choose to screw up those parts which are both unavailable locally and no longer made. And they love their job!

As always we appreciate your videos. These Universal Speed Feed head are the great. One problem I have run into is if you are trimming around a Lake you will collect fishing line between the back base and head. When that happens it prevents the head to feed the line out. So, I have told the guys that all they have to do is remove the head and remove the fishing line between the base plate and head. But, instead they open it and loose the spring and cap and that’s when they bring it to me. Also adding a grease fitting to the gear head is convenient as well.

My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use kzbin.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

I ordered one of these, for my Ryobi. No instructions specific to the Ryobi but it works. Very well it seems. Thanks for your work on the channel. I learned something. I've been fixing my own stuff all my life, 68 years.

I have the 18v Ryobi One+ trimmer that doubles as an edger and another one that has a brushless mower. The edger / trimmer one has a stupid automatic head. I'd wonder if the Speed Feed 400 head would work on these Ryobis?

ONLY head i will run. I upgraded my 20 year old srm210 with this head. My god it works flawlessly and like you said it takes more time to find the trimmer line in the shop than it does to rewind the thing. Great job chickanic!

Saw this and went to my local power equipment place. Sthil now makes their own. Between this and your vid on soaking trimmer string in water I'm saving time and dollars. Thanks a ton!

Bre: Took your advice and bought a Speed Feed 400 for my Stihl FS120. I love it! Installed as easily as you showed in your video. I love how easy it is to refill while I am working. I used my trimmer for four hours yesterday and could add more line so quickly and easily compared to the original Stihl spool. Great recommendation and great product! Thanks.

That is awesome! I wish I would had invented it. It makes life so much easier. Remember you can buy just the cap if you catch it before it wears down into the base. If you bump it on grass though it will last a very long time.

The speed feed heads are indeed the best. I did commercail lawn care for 25 years and stringing new line into a weedy was never faster or easier.

Awesome job at explaining things. You're the only one that I've ever seen show us how to oil the gears on your trimmer head. Good job keep your videos going and I'll keep watching. God bless😊

Didn’t know my mom’s dewalt had this feature until I read your comment. Now she can string it herself. Before I’d have to disassemble it to string it. I prefer the gas powered, but this is easy and convenient for her. Thanks!

Personally I really like Super Lube synthetic grease. Check the specifications on the grease and the temperature ratings.

I did buy this head for an old Ryan 740, however one of the adapters ( for the clockwise turning shaft ) I did have to drill out and tap to 7/16 to make the head work on the shaft Seems all the adapters were metric, except for one, the black one, it was 3/8 x a smaller metric. However after modifying the adapter (silver) that fits into the white spool it all worked excellent! This old Ryan is 32-35 cc and is great for what I use it for. I realize this is an older video, Thanks Chickanic for all you do.

The "speed feed" is similar to the 'load & go' type for my old Efco combo trimmer/cutter (used for property maintenance). To save myself time, I bought 3. It was quicker to change them out and fill 'em later.
