Hammock Gear makes some absolutely AMAZING gear. The attention to detail and craftsmanship that they put into their quilts and tarps is second to none in my opinion. They were my first choice when I was thinking of having a custom minus 10° UQ & matching minus 10° TQ made. Harry took time out of his vacation to answer my emails and helped me design a set of quilts that was exactly what I had envisioned. Both have a 5" tall baffle height to allow the massive amount of down room to loft . They made the Burrow TQ a custom short length, added mini Beastie D rings to the Incubator UQ to allow it to be attached to my hammock along the sides to better keep it in place as well as other custom elements on both quilts. They recently stopped taking requests for custom work so I'm glad I got them when I did! HG does awesome work and I totally recommend them to anyone looking for quilts. If anyone is interested, I have reviews of both quilts, as well as my 40° Econ Burrow in my channel..... Another great vid Cpl. !

I never thought I'd see the day the Corporal went ultralight instead of canvas and leather. I personally don't care for the Dyneema fabric stuff. It's prone to punctures by everything it touches and it crunches like a chip bag when the wind whips past it. I sold mine and went back to Silpoly/Silnylon as a half-measure. I hope you enjoy Dave's gear though. 😆 S/F

Thanks for sharing this video. That tarp looks really nice. I bet it would be superb for cold weather. It would also be nice for generating some rain-free space, more so than the traditional, diamond-shaped rainfly. This would make it much more bearable to take extended shelter during a downpour.

Nice review Corporeal. I researched options for hammock tarps a fair bit and this has been my dream tarp for a while. I plan to upgrade to it eventually. A lot of commenters poopooing your review. Ignore them, you did a good job and are sharing your knowledge for free. This is a top of the line tarp, with top of the line materials, the raw materials are expensive and it requires more labor than other tarps. It’s ultra wide, and provides the best 360 degrees storm coverage. That’s why it’s as expensive as it is. But it is worth it. It’s not for everyone, it for those that can afford the best and want the best. People who love the outdoors and do long distances or those who have bad knees or backs etc will buy these ultralight products because it’s worth the weight savings to them. Also, not a big deal but I believe they are called Hammock Gear, or HG for short, not HG Hammocks. Thanks for sharing.

The Corporal missed his calling as a Sears catalogue model. I recently discovered that duct tape only sort of sticks to parchment paper but doesnt lose its stickiness while doing so. I am always interested in the development of materials for the bushcraft/hiking/camping folk. Being associated with Synthetic slings for years, they come and go. Cubin fibers seem interesting. The first is that outrageous price. Comparable to that Cubin Ultralight Whiz Bag Fandango shelter. A couple more pounds and a hellava lot less money, enter the Super Shelter and its mods. For the gram weenies the cubin would be the way to go. Anyway maybe Dupont is coming out with another fabric to beat the Cubin. Who knows. I guess if your pounding 50 mile days, the Cubin would be your pick. Thanks again amigo for another good one Peace from Texas

My Aqua Quest Safari 10X10 weighs 1.6lbs versus 7.8oz, a savings of 9.2oz. That's amazing. However, the cost factor is quite prohibitive for the common man's wallet. That's $215 more to save 9.2oz.. Tarps of this design are more spacious when the side panels are guy lined up and out. The result is an expanded interior with more space between you and the potentially wet tarp. It also improves air flow and tends to reduce humidity inside the tarp.

I'm a fan of Dyneema/ cuban fiber. I have a Z-Packs Duplex tent in camo that is made from Dyneema and it is quite a nice tent that is pretty light. Mine being camo is a little less see-thru than your tarp but it is still somewhat see through. I was recently gifted a hammock, and am going to look for a set up to go along with it. I think I will still mostly backpack with my tent setup, but after trying a hammock, I find I do like it too. Not sure if I want to spend the quite so much on a secondary setup, so I'll probably go with a silpoly tarp for my hammock

Steven Hobbs from what I’ve read whilst they have great tensile strength they don’t have super great puncture resistance (depends on the thickness of DCF), nor do they have great abrasion resistance. But it’s highly waterproof and very light.

The 'cost' of quality can't be overstated, just as the 'cost' of bad quality can't be understated. Afterall in the service one's rifle is made by the lowest bidder and lives depend on it. So the same for the hard charging hikers, etc. Over the years the expense is averaged out and it becomes less expensive by the year or number of camping days. In short, a better value in the long term.
