I totally agree, the drum module makes a world of difference. Electronic drum pad technology moves pretty slow, but modules keep getting better and better.

I've been watching a ton of your videos.... But I didn't see anything on the td6. I'm looking at a used td6....pdx6 rack toms and td80r snare and pd80 floor tom. Cy8 hi hat, cymbal 1 and 2, and ride. Comes with a PA system too. I'm just a basement drummer. No aspirations of playing out anywhere. What are your thoughts on that system? Especially the stock sounds of the td6? What would be a good module upgrade down the road? Thanks!

I'm completely with you on that Justin, although on a uber tight budget? The Roland TD-6V ain't too shabby of a module. Especially when compared to the old Alesis Trigger I/O I used to struggle with constantly! LMAO!

I LMAO when you mentioned going to a guitarist's house who has a kit set up! I have stories about those kits... I learned to always bring a drum key, my own throne, sticks, pedal and pliers.

I started with the same components you started with, ie, the Roland TD6 module with rubber pads and a mesh snare. Not long after, I met a drummer who played this kit and had one of his own that he was upgrading. So he offered me three Roland mesh head pads for a decent price. That made a world of difference in terms of feel and rebound. So instead of selling the original rubber pads, I looked for a way to extend the kit. I found the Roland TMC6 module with 6 additional trigger inputs. So I could add additional pads and I bough a couple extra Roland cymbal pads. In the end, I have the kick pad, 4 rubber drum pads (+ 1 apare), 3 cymbal pads, and 2 hi hat cymbal pads, each with their own pedal. Using the TD6 and TMC6 modules, I can change the setup instantly such that the kit can be made left handed if needed. Someday, I will upgrade the TD6.

The Roland TD-6V is honestly still a quite competent little module on a budget tho IMO. For one thing it's got independent and splittable 1/4 inch TRS jacks for each pad instead of a cumbersome cable snake. Another, while not comparable to SPD/EZD3/BFD/SSD 5.5? The TD-6V has thousands of sounds compared to even newer modules. Sure, a lot of them are cheesy, but the variety Roland offered back then was massive. My last point? Classic 5-pin MIDI I/O. While obviously not as convenient as a USB type-B port? Adds a significantly large amount of hardware integration options for someone who's well versed in such MIDI nerdishness. As someone who has more than a couple mobile sized audio interfaces with 5-pin MIDI onboard, multiple high end VTS drum-ware licenses, and a solid Macbook? The Roland TD-6V had honestly fit within my meager DIY A2E conversion budget quite nicely. In a pinch? Like say my Mac going on the fritz? The onboard samples work. Not ideal, but doable, and far less of a performance liability than some proprietary all in one cable snake IMO. My 2 cents... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Great video! I still have an old Roland MDS-3 drum rack with hardware, CY-5/pedal, KD-9 with a old pedal. I only need to get a cheap mesh snare, CY-8 for a crash and a few cables and I am in business. Glad I kept all these spare parts. BTW I agree, this drum kit of yours is to gorgeous to take a chance on gigging out with.

OK, you got my attention - that module sounds awesome! If the sounds are good, it's amazing how it can change one's perception of the pads. If I switch from a kit with a tight sounding kick drum to one with a deep, thud-y one, I could swear that the kick pad feels different, looser. Our brains are so trained by years of physical experience with acoustic drums that it fills in tactile "information"/sensation that isn't actually there. Great video! Too bad you couldn't also play the TD6 for comparison. I bet it's night and day.

My son wants electronic drums for his 12th birthday. I considered a few new options, including the Alesis Nitro mesh, and Simmons Titan 50. I think those are more cheaply made than the Roland V drums? The V drums are the adjustable tension fabric mesh tops, right? Are there any things I would be missing by buying these older V drums (from 2004?) vs the other newer options? I found some V drums locally with the TD-6V module for about $350. Thats the same price as the brand new Alesis Nitro mesh including shipping. I'm thinking the Roland V drums are way better?
@alexwestconsulting4 жыл бұрын
not that you are wrong, but this isnt really an upgrade per se considering the module itself costs well over twice the rest of the kit. This is really just buying a premium module and settling for using the same old hardware. Id really recommend using the same module but interfacing with a decent drum vst.

But you didn't even play the TD-6. How do you know it's no good? You definitely should have gotten a replacement AC adapter.

Hello SiREN-DRUMS. I have a question about your old "Frankenstein" ;) Roland-2box 3 configuration. Please tell me did you have some hidden so called "Zourman hihat conversion box" connected somewhere while doing this video? Please does anybody tell me IS IT REALLY NECESSARY TO HAVE "ZOURMAN CONVERSION BOX" TO BE ABLE TO USE ROLAND FD-8 (OR OTHER ROLAND/YAMAHA PEDAL CONTROLLER E.G FD-7, FD-8) ? This is the question which no one give specific answers to (drumit 3 compatibility list tells that FD-7 is ok? I still don't know). I'm planning to buy 2box drumit three. I have FD-8 roland hi hat controller and don't want to buy any expensive "conversion boxes" unless its necessary. Thanks!

Forget a new module all together and just use the midi out to trigger Addictive Drums 2. Done.
@AtTheSourceStudios5 жыл бұрын
Of course that's an option but I wouldn't consider gig ready. A lot of people don't want to have a computer and interface dedicated to their drums or more importantly have no clue how. Regardless though I don't personally consider bringing an interface and a computer to a stage as "giggable". I know what you're saying but it's definitely not an "upgrade" to the kit.
@tlkshowhst5 жыл бұрын
@@AtTheSourceStudios I see, but for someone could get a reasonably powerful windows tablet and run the module via USB. A really cheap usb 2.0 DAC is still better than the converters on a lot of modules. But that drumit is sick. I used to own one and it's really powerful

BTW, I need to mention that having a large drum set is not impressive if you can't play well. I've seen many drummers gigging with very small unimpressive drum sets creating awesome music. What impresses audiences is MUSICALITY!

Oh it barely worked! Lol i had to really slam down on it every time and that's after I adjusted it all the way down. That and the KD-9 kick had one of the drum key screws missing (very common for both to be missing I'm sure you know) but that held together good after a little tightening.
