Can you please do a tutorial video on the trumpet vine seed pod , on how to extract seeds from pod and replant seeds.🌱

I believe the crossvine is the same as the trumpet vine as they are both highly aggressive and very hard to get rid of. I believe this is one of those vines that you need to consider your neighbors and furture owners of your property as it will overtake everything in its path. Please correct me if i am wrong on this...

No, cross vine is Bignonia capreolota.... trumpet vine (at least the trumpet vine I think you are referring to) is Campsis radicans, which can be invasive in some climates. Not so much in the Desert Southwest. Cats claw vine would be slightly invasive, but I’ve never seen cross vine have any invasive qualities. But different species can be invasive in one climate and not the other. All three of these vines are related (Bignoniaceae family) but all have different characteristics. The jacaranda tree is even in this family! Thanks for your comment.

They are different but I like the flowers of the trumpet vine better ( colors and shapes) they are more expensive and hard to find in TX.

Hi. When is the best time to plant cat claw in Peoria AZ ? Is it best to start in a pot and transfer or direct in soil? Is on the north wall- block type. Thank you

I would wait until early to mid October and plant a vine from the nursery. It will root during mild weeks in the fall and spring and then once warm temperatures arrive in the summer, it will go to town.

We are in Phoenix too! Do any of these vines destroy your wall/paint if on the side of a house (south facing) - what do you suggest to give good green color throughout the year in full sun? We have painted siding on that wall we are looking to vine. Another plain brick wall is partial sun. Thank you!

Some of these vines will damage paint or stucco surfaces, especially the creeping fig. If you don’t want to damage the surface, look for a vine without any ‘grippers’ that self- stick to the wall. Without these self-adhesive structures, they must have full support from a trellis or vine supports. Snail vine, star jasmine, Bauer vine are a few options for part sun, and for full sun, bougainvillea or Lady Banks rose are good options. If you want more specific recommendations, please give me a shout via email or phone (found on my website.)

Hi. Great video! Which vines do you suggest for a Pergola? I wouldn't mind some flowers, but it is next to our pool. The vines would provide additional shade on top of the pergola..so a fast climber is needed. Any thoughts? We are in AZ and the pergola is in semi-full sun.

Thanks for watching. Glad it was helpful. Cross vine is my favorite by a pool. I’m careful about using summer flowers by pools due to bees (kids aren’t a fan of stinging critters!) cross vine blooms in March and again in the fall so bees will be present not during swimming season. It can scorch a bit if it full sun with reflective heat, so if you have a hot microclimate, consider using lady banks rose, which is also a fast grower and a springtime bloomer and can tolerate intense heat better than the cross vine. Both of these vines need some support traveling up your pergola, but once in a horizontal surface they don’t need additional support. Both will need semi- annual training to keep looking tidy and groomed.

Whats your opinion on the Star Jasmine?
@harmonyhorticulturalconsul6894
@harmonyhorticulturalconsul6894 3 жыл бұрын
I love star jasmine! It is typically a profuse bloomer in the spring, which can either leave you loving it or wanting to escape the overwhelming fragrance. It appreciates some shade or late afternoon protection from the summer sun. It requires support to grow upright as a vine and demands frequent training to keep it looking tidy. As a fast grower it’s perfect when you don’t have the patience for the creeping fig vine.

Will crossvine live through below freezing temperatures in Northern AZ?
@harmonyhorticulturalconsul6894
@harmonyhorticulturalconsul6894 3 жыл бұрын
It’s hardy to about zone 6, so depending on where you are, it may work, but I’d expect to see frost damage the first few years even if you shelter it and keep it warm. I recommend protecting the entire plant, including the soil around the plant the first 2-3 winters and see if you can get it to survive the cold. Good luck!

What kind of tabs do you use?
@harmonyhorticulturalconsul6894
@harmonyhorticulturalconsul6894 4 жыл бұрын
Jeff Tinkle I used to find them at Home Depot but they stopped carrying them. Some Ace hardware stores have them- they are metal or plastic tabs that have a metal hook... twist ties go through the hook and around the branch to connect them to the wall. Use clear liquid nails not the glue that comes in the package. It’s hold up better in the elements.

Hi I would like to know about the vines that grow well in the south...more vines..give us a list of vines, their preference to sun and water, do they need a trellis, do they flower, and what color are the floweres, and are they bee and bird friendly. The Crypress vine is poisonous to birds , pets and humans and yet it is grown by numerous gardeners. So, THIS IS THE INFO WE ARE LOOKING FOR, HINT..HINT.

@harmonyhorticulturalconsul6894
@harmonyhorticulturalconsul6894 2 жыл бұрын
To remove it you’ll want to dig up the tubers as it will keep sprouting as long as these remain in the soil. Once these tubers are removed you should be able to prevent it from resprouting. I’m assuming you’re not in the Phoenix area; this typically is not invasive in our area but an attractive plant that tolerates hot extreme exposures and reflective heat. This is one of the few plants that will tolerate these exposures in our region. But, in some more tropical areas, some plant species can be more invasive than in arid climates.
