Double-dome sapphire, ceramic dial, NH35A movement, and finishing details found on watches that are far more expensive. The value rivals Seiko/Orient at the $299 price point, and that's amazing!

I'm not going to give you grief over a microbrand. In the case of the Richard LeGrand, it's a very stylish Seiko movement watch. What's to gripe about? love the blue dial and the superlumanova!

Why can't seiko put sapphire and ceramic at a decent price. If the only difference from this watch and the Seikos under $1,000 is the 6r15 movement then all seikos between $500-$1,000 should have sapphire and ceramic.
@TheTimLara6 жыл бұрын
Because Grand Seiko is clearly the favorite child and gets all the attention.
@TheTimLara6 жыл бұрын
RejZoR Exactly. Unfortunately, Seiko obviously wants to adopt the pricing psychology of the Swiss brands, i.e. higher price = higher status. I think they are starting to feel insecure about being a "cheap alternative" (even though that's not true). I actually blame watch snobs for causing the mentality. The ironic part is I think the strategy will actually hurt sales, so hopefully it backfires and prices come back down eventually.
@ZCherish6 жыл бұрын
Because they can, really. Their brand prestoge haa gone up in recent years and by discontinuing the 6R15 SARBs and replacing them with the 4R35 Cocktail Times, they are making consumers pay more for their premium movements.

Hi Jory! Thanks for identifying this micro. I have been wearing this watch for past month and I must say I am extremely pleased. I was "in" at early Kickstarter stage making the price point for me even more amazing! Your observations about transparency of manufacture etc are very well taken..Yes, a Singapore based venture but still some mystery. I have the Blue rendition and I have to say the ceramic blue dial does some wonderful things in the light. It is a pleasure to look at indeed. bracelet very comfortable and yes I abhor the pins (which I was led to believe will displace in either direction) and i ultimately definitely had no issue removing 2 links. I'm happy with the no date design. The Seiko engine performs as I would expect it toi owning numerous other timepieces with same movement. One wish (not really a complaint) is that it might have been below the 40mm threshold...perhaps future models. So far, it wears quite comfortably..lume is outstanding. Logo/name derivative is no issue for me. Yes, my JLC Master Chrono elicits a different reaction when I strap it on, but let's be real! BTW, an extremely small dot of pure silicone lube on threads made them respond much more comfortably. Well...those are some initial impressions. Thanks again for identifying this piece. Totally enjoy ALL your material...I've learned a great deal.

My date version with the contrasting bezel arrived the other day and I thought it was worth mentioning that the new models have arrows added to the bracelet links, fixing that one particular issue.

I have a few microbrand watches in my collection and I've been happy with them. Similar to this one is my "Blobfish" diver from Manchester Watch Works. It was $295, and it has some of the same characteristics of this Richard LeGrand piece, though the Ceramic Bezel on yours is clearly better. I agree that one can find quality automatic watches at this range, even without too many imperfections that are usually characteristics of watches at this level.

Have you herd of Helm Khuraburi ? It’s a very impressive ISO Diver that’s $300. NH38 movment, sapphire crystal and bezel insert, fully lummed, and comes with an amazing bracelet with one-sided screw-in links. Plus you also get a one piece Zulu strap with it. I’m not saying it’s better than the Odyssa, it’s a complete tool diver, nothing remotely dressy about it. From owning 2 and from the reviews I have seen it seems to be an absolute killer value.

Patrick Chip Own both and your right. The RL is photogenic and from a distance appears to be more expensive but when you get up close you see the build quality, lume and quality of bracelet of the Helm, you know you’ve a tool/diver as opposed to the RL which is a dress / diver

The watch looks very nice, but I'd like to know more about the brand on the website. Who is Richard LeGrand? Watchmaker? Ambitious entrepreneur? Made up euro sounding name? On the surface it may be superficial, but his kind of matters to me when buying a watch, since a name is involved as the brand. The name represents a person and when you wear a watch with a name, it represents the product. If the site had an interesting story or company history it would help. If it's one of those fake euro names made just to sell product, it's a bit of a deterrent.

I'm awaiting the release of Helm's 40mm diver. I love their attention to detail. Besides the staunch hugeness of their current offerings, neither dial design quite lands as a home run for my taste. I hope the 40mm offering isn't too busy or quite as huge in it's elements as I love their attention to detail and I'd really like to love the design of their soon to be released 40mm diver from them.
@FunFactsAboutTech6 жыл бұрын
Other solid choices in a similar price bracket. E.g Glycine combat sub 42 automatic. I'd spend a $100 or so more and know I'm getting a great watch and movement. Sure, it doesn't have a ceramic bezel but noone really gives a shit. It has saphire glass and AR.
@chrispeek3806 жыл бұрын
Specs wise it's not a bad deal for the money at all but honestly the styling is a little generic and if you visit the website it's obvious the Chinese manufacturer simply chose a fancy sounding English name that he thought sounded "classy" and then decided to corn it up even more with the "Odyssea" play on words. Oddly enough the case back of the watch is the most interesting thing about it other than that it's kind of a yawn style wise.
@ramspencer54925 жыл бұрын
Singapore. I had a flight connection that had a leg cancelled there. Totally different mindset than China. I don't think this watch is at all generic. It his a sweet spot between classes and sporty pretty spot on. Being a Singapore company, it's going to really be 200m water resistant, with Ann oiled movement, etc. Those guys came get away with driving a mile and hour over the speed limit and there's not a scrap of litter on the ground. Pretty impeccable customer service as well.
