In this video I explain the best way that I have found to target these Pink Salmon in the River. During this absolutely epic time of the year we get the amazing opportunity to go fishing for and to target pink salmon here in washington state as they make their way from the pacific ocean into the various local rivers and streams to spawn. I hear your frustration on the snagging but I learned a long time ago that snaggers are gonna snag especially during pink years. Brings out the worst in fisherman out the and only real thing you can do is call the warden and hope they come. Besides that a fish isn’t worth getting into fights or worse have a gun pulled out on you which I have seen happen. One other thing is if not keeping a salmon it is illegal to take out of water. I understand they are on their way to dying anyways but it is the law. I don’t take snagging lightly either but to be fair we should always thrive to follow the rules especially if we are calling other ppl out. Besides that great video and hope you continue to enjoy your time out their.

Drove to the Puyallup this morning but is seems like the pinks have gone missing there. Caught a nice Coho and lost a king this morning. It is still insane with all the people still.

I had to pull my pepper spray on a dude who was coming up to me while I was on the phone reporting him for poaching salmon off the beach. He immediately backed off and took off with a wild coho. Friken dirt bags. I can’t stand them. They’re all over the place when the salmon are coming through. Hopefully you were able to send something to fish and game. It’s so satisfying putting the time in and catching them the right way. Great to catch on homemade (or altered) jigs and lures! It’s been an awesome season! Bush point has been fantastic for pinks this year. Winding down though. I’m a 20 minute drive from there so I get out a lot! Thanks again for the video!

Thanks for the tutorial! I live very close to the green river too but I haven’t very fished it very much. I’ve been mostly fishing at the puyallup and the setup is a lot different. I wanted to go to the puyallup after school tomorrow, but the traffic is terrible. If you could let me know which area this is around, that would be great! May have over-reacted. Could be that the pinks were so thick that they were bumping their line or swatting the jig with their tail. Fish tards think they're bites and set the hook every time they feel one. They're just humpies let them get their limit so they'll leave.

No, they were definitely snagging, not even using jigs, just hooks. That closeup in my video of him “hitting a home run” with his rod was all he was doing the whole time, and was keeping snagged fish

you can tell by the retrieve... a snag retrieve is much different than a lure/hook set retrieve. a snag retrieve is a constant smooth rod sweep/reel motion which he was obviously doing. not to mention they pretty much admitted it.

Great video! I used to fish the Green River near Auburn area. I know this really good spot (I know you've been there on previous vids) that I absolutely love. My car got broken into two times in a row so I said F it and never went back. I hate how this awesome river is littered and homeless camps are on the banks. Any sketchyness during your recent trips?

Being from Chicago, I've only fished for pinks while visiting family up in Seattle. just wondering, does wdfw not patrol the areas during "prime" season? I would think that they would be out in full force picking up the easy revenue off violations. During the fish runs, the DNR is out in full force in Chicago (even with snagging being legal) catching soooooo many people without licenses. In Chicago they take all your gear plus a fine, if you're in a boat they confiscate the boat too until the court date! Does it ever help to report it or call it in to WDFW?

Yeah tbh it’s probably not LOL but in my head I think it slows down the 1/8oz or less a little maybe because it has such a large surface area when it’s spread out under water, compared to some other jig types that might be more compact or thin. It’s very fluffy

Once talked to a guy that ties jigs professionally who was telling me how different shaped jig heads change the way jigs drop in the water, so it’s not far fetched body materials could have an impact. Sort of two reasons. 1 is I was using 6lb line, and the other was the tide was high so there was no bank really to land the fish so I needed some more line to be able to back up and find a spot to land the fish without it breaking my rod tip since I reeled it in a little too much
