My pillow has a label which indicates that it should be dry cleaned only. I took it to the cleaners and was informed that it costs $16.00 to dry clean the pillow. I can buy new ones for less. I am happy to have found your video. Now I'll just wash them until it is time to throw them away. I am going to try OxiClean instead of bleach.

OxiClean should work. Your pillow must be synthetic based on your identified $16.00 replacement cost. But washing should still work.

Excellent video, thanks for posting! Very good point about after being in the dryer for a while, take pillows out and try to redistribute the down. The pillow will feel dry to the touch but the inside will still be wet. Learned this the hard way and it took forever to finish drying them out in the sun, (several days). I'll check around for a laundromat with a high speed extractor.

Many laundromats have them. It is not necessary, you will just need to dry it a little longer.

Extractor!? I live in Brooklyn, New York. Absolutely none of our public laundromat has an “extractor”. Most of the time I’m worried if at least one washer and dryer actually works. My luck! Of course I’d be gifted a pillow that’s a challenge to clean. Great. The down is encased in a purple velvet cover. Scared of opening the zipper. And bleach will definitely ruin the velvet. It’s a throw pillow actually. And literally the only pillow I own with down. I’m trying not to ignore the fact that it needs a refreshing because it’s been over a year now when it was given to me and I’m not certain it was washed before I got it although I trust the person who gave it to me. Just don’t want to put this off.

I washed & dried my pillows at the laundromat as directions said and my pillows smell like a wet dog now and they WILL NOT dry. I have dried them for a total of about 4 hours 😩

Take them back to the laundromat and dry them more. Or, set them out in the sun.

Probably dry by now but throwing a resistant shoe into the drier and let them spin together should do the job

It is subjective. If you eat in bed or have a pet sleep in your bed, it will soiled quicker. As a rule of thumb, I wash mine 2 times a year. I would look to color as an indicator - if it is starting to yellow or becomes stained in an area consider washing it.
