Not sure where the thumbs down came from? Maybe it wasnt explained as someone was expecting but the plethora of knowledge this man contains would make it difficult to break some of these questions down into short snippets such as these videos. This kind of knowledge is years and years of experimentation and learning that would be very difficult to shorten into a nine minute video.

Thanks for the education Paul. You mentioned in a previous post that you favor short speaker cables and long interconnects, so: would a tube (say, Musical Fidelity X10v3) buffer help drive long interconnects from cd player to integrated amp? They have high INPUT impedance and very low output impedance.

Paul McGowan Indeed. Well from experience the mu-vista tubed x10v3 is nowhere near as coloured as the older x10d (I have both) . The output capabilities of the cd player were what was in question:-) As for colouration....you use tubes in the bhk amps, no?

Thank you Paul, this is a question I was going to ask myself. But can I just confirm - I have 6ohm speakers and my tube amp has both 4 and 8 ohm outputs... I should use the 4 ohm output? I was told by the distributor to use the 8ohm output as using the 4 would damage the speakers... so would be very grateful for your confirmation :-)

Thank you Paul, can I just confirm - I have 6ohm speakers (Opera Quinta) and my tube amp (Unison Research Sinfonia) has both 4 and 8 ohm outputs... which should I use.. the 4 or 8? I was told by the UK distributor to use the 8ohm output as using the 4 could damage the speakers, but using 8 doesn't sound right, so have always used 4, but been worried about doing so... so would be very grateful for your confirmation :-)

Yeah, a Swiss army knife with the knife. Modern mass market receivers have everything but a real amp section, because most of the budget is spent on the plethora of gimmicks, which tend to degrade sound quality. Like attaching bluetooth and wifi antennas and funneling into the chassis a ton of high frequency noise.
