You can cycle from Wandsworth in south west London to Stockwell in south London, entirely on quiet streets and protected cycle lanes.
The route is 8.9km long (5.5 miles) and makes use of an older backstreet cycle route, as well as new protected cycle paths on Nine Elms Lane and Thessaly Road. There is also a stretch in Battersea Park.

Your videos should be picked up in whole or in part by whatever agency promotes London for tourists. I admit to confirmation bias, having a deep primal longing to return to London...to at least spend some more time while my age permits as a sojourn. Somehow you've managed to allay my greatest fears as to cycling in London. That being said, a GPS navigator with your routes downloaded would be a requisite. Loved this vid like I do most of yours. It's beyond therapy. Thank you...

If you had continued straight on at 7:23 and followed the railway line cycle route (to near the end tunnel), turning left into the D&R estate there is a cycle route out to a cycle traffic light at B.Park Rd dropping you safely straight into Macduff Road opposite, avoiding the nastier crossing at 7:55, Macduff Road then drops you into the park opposite Barbara Helpworth’s Single Form at 8:43 The previous council were cyclist-hostile, the park has its own warranted park police who weren’t averse to stopping and booking cyclists for breaking its obscure bye-laws. Whilst the new council are more friendly towards pedal cyclists they are negatively obsessed about electric hire cyclists who may still fall foul of the speed limit and park police fines. I exit the Power Station at the 12:13 roundabout as your exit route is so pedestrian intensive, with traffic lights at the end to safely enter the main road in either direction, right to Thessaly Rd. Sneak look at the underground shelter entrance at 15:44-48. The bus garage is worth a mention as it’s so spectacular and just around the corner from the tube. Btw - @3:11 you cycle past the new Mitchell House on the right, and then the original William Mitchell’s concrete reliefs on the left 3:13 to 3:28 along Thomas Baines Rd, installed when the estate was first built. Mitchell has a wide range of disappearing installations around the UK and the West Coast of America, see more inside Curzon Mayfair.

Yeah the crossing at McDuff is definitely a better crossing - though the route through the estate does get a bit more covered in parked cars as you continue to get to it so I think there are positive and downsides to choosing where to get over the road! I've been a bit disappointed with the new council so far - hopefully they build lanes on Queenstown Road, but I'm worried there's been no progress on e.g. Nine Elms Lane which was supposed to start earlier this year and is a really crucial link. In some respects it feels like they're going backwards Great shout on the Michell reliefs I need to make sure I check these out next time I go past

BatterseaPark does stay open in the evening for pedestrians and cyclists. I used it when I worked in Twinckenham, on the way back from work. Wish I had known this route then... I live in Stockwell!

Thanks for the video, another familiar area to me, I liked the facts you shared and nice to see quite a lot of the route is on quiet roads and separated from other road vehicles.

The most distinctly downbeat assessment of facilities to hand I've seen on this channel. TBH, so much has improved in the four decades since I escaped from London, seeing parts where the roads are just as ropey as I recall came as a bit of a surprise!

I didn't mean to be too downbeat but the infrastructure is definitely quite old!

If you like to explore by foot as well as by wheels, tfl have some urban orienteering routes on their website, one of which is around Battersea/Clapham Junction. They’re walking routes with bits of history/art to look out for on the way. Maybe fun to do with the kiddo when they’re a bit older!

This is south of me but I don't like it. I'd go to the shops in Wandsworth if it easier. I don't like the steep bit on Nantes close. I think I go on the motorway or dismount. Once it was tipping down and my peddles weren't catching my chain and I got so lost on the roundabout it was one of those moments 😅 I do like the blue lanes east tho, I don't know how I got lost. I was going to Fulham Broadway instead of home Albert Bridge and couldn't work out how to turn left. Luckily I went left and it was correct but Wandsworth bridge road is a bit grim. A car overtook me and pulled into the cycle lane right in front of me!!!

Falcon park could easily be adjusted for bikes I don't like the cobbles under the bridge tho, I can't do bumpy, but latchmere road is such a nightmare I avoid going to Lidl & ASDA 😞 I only do any of these routes with a deep breath and sense of dread. I can't stand those awful plastic bumps around Battersea power station that would also make me stick to the main roads. What is the point of cycle infrastructure if cyclists like me would rather stick to the main road. I do like Thessaly road but that top junction steep on to a main road I don't like it, I only do it if I need to go to Brixton... Deep breath, grimace and hope you make it x

Great video! Cheers! Its definitely good to have some new safe connections between North Battersea and Stockwell... Ive previously used the Ravenet St tunnel, Silverthorne Rd, Turret Grove route to reach C5 and then Stockwell but I find crossing Queenstown Rd can be pretty scary sometimes. Typically I've avoided Battersea Power Station on bicycle because I find the environment a bit overwhelming and the public realm confusing but now its featured on LCR I will give it a try 🚴🌿

I basically think if it as the loop road and then the connection at the top to the park and at the bottom to Thessaly Rd!

oh my the utility companies have made a right mess outside Wandsworth Town Station. The laws around replacing the roadway to its original state definitely need updating!!

Thanks for your videos! I'm going to give this route a try from Wandsworth to Chelsea bridge but tbh can't convince myself why it might be better than the Thames Path (immediately after the Wandsworth crossing) - Westbridge road - Parkgate road - Battersea park route though. Why do you prefer this one?
@Londoncycleroutes
@Londoncycleroutes 7 күн бұрын
The Thames Path is alright - the main advantage of this over it is probably that as the Thames Path approaches Battersea Park from the west its actually quite hard to get into Battersea Park without going on a busier road (either Albert Bridge Road or Parkgate Road). It's also more direct as it avoids following the curve of the river and there are also a few tight spots on the path - but I have used it in a couple of previous videos. I think it's a matter of preference really! best of luck!

Do you know of a safe way to cycle from Clapham Common to Battersea Park? The A3216 is a nightmare.
@Londoncycleroutes
@Londoncycleroutes 13 күн бұрын
Yes I agree - it’s a bit of a detour but a chill alternative would be to take cycleway 5 (there’s a crossing from the Common to Bromell’s Rd where it starts) then leave C5 by taking a left up Courland Grove and follow the route in this video through Thessaly Rd, Battersea Power station and under the rail bridge in reverse. It should take about 5 mins I think

Compared to those other videos this route seems pretty squickly. I likely would not ride it this way because to many changes turns and curbs. Does not seem pleasnt despite being low traffic. To many chokepoints and it does seem to be indirect and difficult to follow. Edit : Gets much better after passing the park.
