Let me show you how to do Kintsugi, a beautiful traditional Japanese technique.

Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese technique for repairing broken vessels.

What type of two part putty is used? I tried it and it was not as soft as shown in the tutorial. Not sure if I need to replace the putty that came with the kit?

Thank you so much for this detailed step-by-step video! If I were to do Kintsugi over three weeks, can I divide it into these three parts? Are there steps that should absolutely be done in one day? 1) breaking and gluing 2) Putty & filing 3) Shin urugi & gold powder

Thanks for your comment! Please proceed to putty in part 1. Because it will be easier to do part 2 if you let the putty dry well. Polishing is done in part 2. Since you will be polishing with water, you should let it dry here as well. If you divide the work into 3 parts, proceed as follows 1) Break, glue, putty → dry 2) File, polish →dry 3)Shin Urushi & Gold Powder　 (Part 3 should be done in one day, if Shin-urushi dries out, Gold Powder will not stick.) Enjoy Kintsugi!

Is there a reason that you cannot mix the gold powder with a shellac paste instead?

Sorry for the late reply.I don't know what shellac paste is, but... I use something that dissolves in hot water or is safe to put in the mouth. You will also need to consider the adhesive strength.

I don't understand how the gold powder sticks after the shin-urushi is dried?

Thanks for the comment! shin-urushi is half-dried. It is most durable to sprinkle gold powder after it has been blended. It takes about two weeks for shin-urushi to dry completely.

In old Japan, real gold was also used, but this is brass powder. It has a food sanitation finish.
