I reckon @PerkinsEngineering would be worth bumping an email to. Larry has a bit of experience with the level of engine you have. One of the best.

Not the worst idea but he has been working with Precision International who have plenty of experience too.

I was going to suggest the same thing. First thing that came to my mind. I hope Uwe gets his Torana sorted. He deserves a big run.

First thing we used to do to all Holden heads was open up the oil return 'holes' in the head, never had the means to tap lines in to drain direct to sump. Always wanted to convert to a dry-sump system but funds never allowed... DID find that those big wide sumps the drag-strip blokes like killed engines on hard corners such as all those left's before the bridge at Oran Park... The low 'T' sumps with home 'fettled pick-up & baffle/windage tray were a lot better. A mate of mine used to rebuild our oilpumps, more volume than standard, but not "high" pressure pumps as sold in the magazines of the day... He claimed the pumps main problem was needing to smooth out the passage ways of the pump... My favourite 308 was an ex Wade Camshafts development motor they sold off, by the time I got it she was starting to drop off. Took the opportunity to change to an aluminium flywheel, distributor type electronic ignition & gear drive for the cam shaft. During the rebuild I contacted Wade & they sent out a replacement cam & a copy of the build data along with a short letter- was surprised they remembered it from a decade & a bit before! Wasnt too long after the rebuild the motor was stolen & I lost heart for building more Holdens... Two mate talked me into helping them with 355 strokers, one of them quit & sold it & the other put about 150000 on it before swapping it for a standard 308- he just plain wore it out from abuse.. That never really seemed as good as it should've been, my main suspicion is he didnt put the right parts in it for what he was doing & he never cared to warm it up properly before a thrashing... One idea I always wanted to try though, was de-stroking a 308 to 253 using the .25inch shorter stroked Chev crank- until someone told me about the port-robbing & got me reading Phil Irving... ;) Often thought about visiting Europe in a Holden ute, although a Torana would make a lot more sense! Thanks for sharing ol' mates adventures with his Torrie & I hope we see it at the track soon!

I wonder what diameter to open the oil return holes in the cylinder head is possible ? Especially in the VN heads ?

@@Ringholden Not sure mate. I would say not too much but more than too little. How is it all going?

Uwe you need anti pump up lifters, ASR high volume oil pan and a standard volume oil pump. High volume oil pumps are notorious for sucking the pan dry. You actually need very little oil at the top of the motor and bottom end should always be the priority. Also drilling a hole on the front cam bearing is a good mod to help with circulation through the block.

@Ringholden some good ideas here mate. I think you are already doing some of these. Thanks for the tips Matthew

@@BorkenGarage 355 have higher piston speed aswell compared to a standard stroke, so maybe drop the limiter abit and that would help ease some strain on the oil pump. If you are a Nürburgring regular would love to @Misha Charoudin take it for a hot lap. All the best from the land down under boys

@@matthewbezzina8472 Yeah Uwe is supposed to be at the Nurburgring next month if everything goes to plan. I know he is looking forward to it. I don't think he has the 355 back in the car yet, last I heard he was building a 253? (could be wrong) while he was waiting for parts for the 355. Not sure which one is in the car atm, haven't spoken to him in a while. But yeah, I'm excited and I'm sure he is excited for it to be back out on track. Hoping to get some footage either from Uwe or people at the track when he does get it back out there so I can give you guys another update.

Great information as usual Borken Uwe 😎Yep, do not use HP oil pumps, and drain tappet cover to sump in high revving engines.

Uwe guten morgen, mien herr, just a suggestion, would a dry sump kit not work better for you, possibly double pumping the engine feeding both top and bottom of the engine at the same, keeping a correct oil feed and pressure to stop oil surge and wash, this is just a thort, danke mien herr, uwe, many regards adam

Uwe has installed the external fuel pump but hasn't driven the car yet because he has been moving house. Lots of work to do and its been winter there so not much has happened recently.

I'm glad this bloke hasn't put a chev in it cause then as far as I'm concerned it's not a slr5000.I've got a 308 myself but not as much power as this.one thing I've done which has made a differance is I'm using the original oil filter instead of k@n as it holds alot more oil than the k@n I had on my motor it's definitely made a difference to my 308 regarding oil pressure it's pretty much instant now.ill never go back to the much smaller k@n oil filter ever again.i know the Chevrolet engine is a far surperia engine to the 304 and 308 in all areas but I don't care I'm what you call a diehard and a dying bread I know of the iron lion.
