I once heard caffeine is the most addictive drug. I disagree, I think sugar is far more addictive. The point Dr. Berg makes about just going cold turkey is a good idea.

I quit smoking 2 years ago after smoking for 16 years. Wasn't easy but I did it. I stopped taking sugar yesterday and I already know why it's harder. EVERYONE at home is pushing sugar towards me. My wife gave me a cookie, my in laws placed a cup of tea in front of me and my 2 year old baby had a tantrum when she pushed a cookie in my direction and I refused to eat it. When I quit smoking, I'm the only one who even knew I quit.

I’m quitting sugar cold turkey tonight! Be back for updates. ☺️ Update: DAY 2 still going strong. I haven’t even thought about eating sugar or junk food. I think once you officially decide you’re DONE it’s easy after that. DAY 3 sleeping is absolute trash. Lol I’ve been waking up each hr of night. I know it will get better. Other than that no hunger at all. Energy is normal. I’ve added jump roping at the park and noticed I didn’t get winded AT ALL! Also HELLLLOOO smooth skin and flatter tummy! ✨✨✨ DAY 4: sleep was BETTER i am able to fall asleep fast and I only woke up once at 2am. So progress. Also I noticed that when I run or jump rope etc. my heart is beating fast but I’m not gasping for air like I’m about to pass out. So it’s safe to say my arteries aren’t so clogged up anymore. Also my cracked skin on my heels are GONE!!! A lot of people are already commenting about the weight loss benefits. So I wanted to touch a lot more on the other benefits too. Side note: If anyone is curious on the foods I’ve eaten so far I’ve mostly stuck with Salmon, Tuna and shrimp, cheese and veggies. I plan on trying a really juicy buttery steak this week. 🤤 My stomach is flatter and now a little definition on my arms. And most importantly still NO CRAVINGS what so ever. It’s almost like maybe weren’t meant to eat food to begin with. LOL Just a thought be back later. DAY 7: still going strong! ✨I SLEPT AMAZING✨ Woke up at 5am feeling great! Waist is much smaller. No cravings whatsoever. Just keeping it pescatarian these days. 2 meals a day and 1 green tea 1 coffee not snacking at all DAY 12: ugh! So I had a cheat day yesterday. With home made shrimp rice and egg rolls. Very good. But made me feel like crap. GASSY stomach hurt. I had been refraining from getting on the scale because I’ve been seeing the physical changes which was good enough for me. Slimmer face, arms, legs, and waist. Until I got on the scale today. “DUN DUN DUUUNNN!” I only lost 1lb. HOW?!!!!! That made me super discouraged and wanting to give up. But I am super grateful for having my energy and feeling good throughout the day. I can’t go back now. Wish me luck. ✨✨✨ONE MONTH!!!!!✨✨✨ So far feeling better than ever. Still no sugar. When I do slip up I feel yucky the next day. 🤮 So I avoid it at all cost. I’ve been doing the pescatarian thing. No heavy meats and I have been trying to stay away from processed junk as much as possible. Also I realized I haven’t been so hard on myself tracking carbs etc because it works better when you don’t feel like you’re on a diet. It’s more of a lifestyle change. I haven’t gotten back on the scale yet. But I see HUGE changes in my stomach flat. Annoying Back roll is almost gone. My energy is AMAZING. I sleep the entire night through. And no stomach issues.

There is no easy way out of this, getting off sugar is going to be hard. It took me around six weeks to stop having physical cravings and maybe six months to get past what I'd call the mental cravings aspect. It was really hard, with multiple setbacks. Important things are always hard, they are supposed to be hard. Being hard is not a reason to avoid them, that is the reason to do it! We are built to do hard things. Quitting sugar is the single most life-altering thing I've ever done.

Dr Berg, I quit sugar cold turkey on September 11th of this year. At that time I weighed 275lbs and I’m 5’10”. I felt tired at the end of the work day to the point and had no energy to do anything. I haven’t changed to a keto diet but I cut out added sugar and bread of any kind. I have lost a total of 19lbs over the past 5 weeks with just my change in diet. It was amazing to see this happen with very little exercise. I have cravings for sugar sometimes but I just think of the weight I have lost and the work it took to make it this far (yes, this took a lot of work over 5 weeks to not give in to my cravings) and I just fight through it. My initial goal was just to make it 30 days. I extended that to 90 days and once I hit that I’m going to go an entire year. Hopefully, I can make this a life changing event. Eight years ago, I started having an allergy. I started sneezing a lot and had runny nose almost every day. I never thought that my allergy was caused by my diet since I am/was already doing a low carb diet. Even though I was doing low carb diet, I never gave up drinking soda. I continued drinking regular coke then changed it to diet coke or any sodas that has no calories in it. Finally I settled down on Zevia soda thinking it was one of the healthier alternative soda drink. I was happy and just learned to live with my allergy. I took Allertec medicine whenever I had enough of sneezing and clearing my runny nose. Two months ago, on my 57th birthday I just decided no more carbonated soda, so I got rid of drinking Zevia. I wasn't expecting any improvement in my health but was surprised that it stopped my sneezing and no more runny nose.

Before i discovered your channel, and did not know how it was working (insulin spike, sugar craving, low energy etc), that "little red light" made me go to the kitchen looking for something to eat ... in fact, i was looking for sugar. After eating some sugar (cookies, chocolate, or anything else with sugar), it was ok, "little red light" was turned off, and i could go back to my computer. It was really complicated for me to resist those sugars cravings, i used to eat big breakfasts too, and a lot of white bread with all meals (3x a day) since many years. After seeing some of your videos (sorry for my english, i'm french), and anderstanding how it was working, i decided to start intermitent fasting (16 - 8 - no breakfast no snaking), stopped sugars (stopped fast sugars and lowered slow sugars), stopped completely bread, went for 1 hour walk every day (around 6km), stopped using the lift at my job (i'm working at the 4th floor) and went earlier to bed (10h30 pm) for two weeks to see if i would have positive results. Those first two weeks, were very hard with sugar cravings, but i won ! no sugar at all and no bread, and finally that 'little red light' disappeared. Sometimes it was back, but it was easier to resist. Few days after i started, i noticed that, that "little red light" was very strong (intense ?), but was not very long (in time), maybe 10 or 15 minutes, then turned off by itself. When it was very hard to resist, i went to the kitchen, and took a big glass of water to fill in my stomach, and that turned off the "little red light" almost instantly. The first week, i lost 2kg. The second week, i lost 1.5kg, began to feel better and decided to go on. I've started at the end of march 2021 and lost about 1kg a week, sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less. Then i had 2 or 3 weeks where i lost almost no weight, but it started again last week, and now i've lost 30kg, but i keep going on. Today, i'm eating very small quantity (amount ?) of bread (not every day), and sometimes i eat 2 or 3 squares of chocolate, but when i do, i do it right after diner to avoid breaking the fasting. Finally, with no big food restrictions, it works well for me. Today, if i eat something with sugar, like pastry, i can not finish it, there is too much sugar for me. The other good thing, my satiety is back, i eat less every day, have no cravings between my 2 meals, and no insulin spike that make me almost fall asleep in the afternoon. To make it simple, that changed my life, and now i feel good. I have some more weight to lose, but i know it works, and i will reach my goals. Some people asked me if i'm not afraid to gain that weight back (not sure if that sentence is correct ...), then i tell them : when someone has a lot of weight to loose (except when there are medical or health problem), it's not because he / she eated a bit too much at Christmas and new years eve, it's because he / she has bad life habits since long time, and a simple diet will not help, because you have to change those habits, it's a new way of life and eat, not just a diet to lose 3kg and start again after with bad habits. To explain sugar craving and intermitent fasting effect to people hwo ask me, i use the lift vs stairs example. Imagine your brain entering in a building to go to the 4th floor (i know, it's a bit weird, but easy to anderstand), and he has choice between lift and stairs. He will push the button to call the lift, like he will start / make ? you craving (not sure about that sentence) because it's easier for him to ask you for sugar instead of transforming your body fat into needed sugar, like it's easier tu use the lift. If you are listening him, and give him the sugar he wants, it's like sending him the lift. If you don't send him the lift (don't give him sugar he wants), as he needs to go to the 4th floor, he will have no choice, and will take the stairs (will start transform body fat into sugar), and that's the way to go. After some times, he won't be asking for the lift, and will directly use the stairs by himself. Hope that was not to long, and will maybe help. Thank you again Dr Berg, your videos are precious, i could not imagine having such result so easily :)

"At the end of the day your body will replenish depleted glycogen stores through a process called Gluconeogenesis, where it takes fats and/or proteins and coverts them to glucose for storage in the liver, kidneys, and muscles" good, this is also why we don't lose that fat right away. Nice point about fat. Many do not know that fat does convert to glucose, just indirectly.

@@joycehandersonfriends3225 Happy to see that can help you. The important thing to know, is that, that little Red light does not last until you eat sugar, It only last 10 to 15 minutes. If you can resist eating sugar while those 10 to 15 minutes, that little Red light will turn off by It self.

My tastebuds have changed & I crave salt & I need more pepper on my food than I ever have. I know that I was badly addicted to sweet tea, but I don't drink it like I used to. I enjoy lemon water, now. It's refreshing, to me. Real sweet tea, like I used to drink tastes unpleasantly sweet. My weakness is sucking hard candy to replace cigs.

Hello Annette P. Had a journey with Cigarettes, too. They effect the quantity and quality of air use and absorption in your lungs. I think studies show, they restrict your O2 intake by 10% at least. In our world of stress and air pollution our first response to stress is to restrict the flow of breath into our lungs. It's a fight and flight, fear response. What smoking helps with is the deep inhalation, as does crying, i found out. I use the healing art of Jin Shin Jyutsu to help the flow of breath inhalation, circulation and exhalation in my body. For the lungs I put my left hand under the left rib cage and my right hand under the left clavicle. For the other side right hand under right rib cage and left hand under right clavicle. For short hold your Ringfinger, or put your thumb on the Ringfinger nail of the same hand. It helps me greatly, even in crowded trains. 😊

You lose minerals in your urine like potassium, sodium and magnesium on keto so replacing them is hugely important. I neglected that the first time I did keto and I felt tired and weak, especially when exerting myself. Now I add lo-salt to my water because it contains sodium and potassium and just eat a lotta foods that contain them. I use magnesium supplements too but tbh I’d you just spend a bit of time researching magnesium rich foods, it’ll help you choose the right things to eat.

I didn’t realize until I started working in substance abuse that I am truly addicted. The cravings, needing more and more, vowing to stop then eating it in spite of truly wanting to stop, external triggers that drive me to give in and eat it. All signs of a chemical dependency. It’s all about the dopamine. I started an antidepressant (Prozac) and that helped reduce the cravings for several months then they returned. But I lost 50 pounds during that time.

@@user-rn3rn6nl3h That sounds reactionary and fear-based, but whatever works for you. Removing carbs from my diet worked wonders as I’m more insulin-sensitive now, I can fast every few days and I actually prefer that, and if/when I do eat some carbs I don’t completely fall to pieces. Plus I could actually see the muscles that I’d spent over a decade developing. Sometimes we set these rules for ourselves, with good intentions, only to screw ourselves over in the long run. I have always loved sugar. I used to eat 8 snickers ice creams in one go while waiting for bus. Sometimes more. I went from 55kg to 73 kgs for the last 10 years. LAst March I DECIDED I will take me getting healthy seriously. I have been trying to loose weight, always failing in the end. But in the last year I did loose just over 10 kgs in spite of failing soooo many times, and I have not gained it back. 4 months ago I started going to the gym. One month ago I quit sugar. I am almost the same shape as when I was twenty something. I am 43. It is work. It is sacrifice. We all need a really strong reason to do it. Find that reason. You might fail a million times, but as long as you keep getting back to your making efforts, finally you will win. Edison failed like 10000 times before he succeeded with the light bulb. Failure is not bad. One step closer to the final success. Yesterday a new work colleague asked if I am also studying in uni as well as working? It made my day.

There is a psychological part to table sugar addiction. An old unprocessed trauma could be drifting in your mind, causing you to feel tired. What sugar does is suppress this feeling of tiredness with a sugar rush. But whatever you suppress doesn't vanish, it just is buried deeper. When I went zero-sugar for a while, first I got cravings, then the cravings became less, then the cravings stabilized. After a while, mental pictures of incidents in the past, when tiredness was suppressed by a sugar rush, flew off, and then the cravings vanished.

Thanks doc relevant as always, for those who are having hard time quiting on sugar simply do a day of eating exclusively oignon soup, you will not having trouble after and it will flush a lot of bad fungus like candida albican out of your guts, this day will be hard and you may experience some side effect like anger etc. But you will be good after, and to not relapse be aware of what trigger your sugar craving, like stress or social situations

I been addicted to sugar since a kid… it’s been a challenge for me… I have always tried quitting gradually but it never works bc I feel I end up eating more sugary foods. Sugar is definitely an addictive “drug” and does produce all those symptoms Dr Berg described! I am hoping this advice helps… thank u Dr Berg

its easy well best way to remove addition is to rebalance the microbiom with wither oregano oil and olive leaf and probiotics prebiotics fermented foods or soverain silver hydrorosol instead of oil and leaf this will kill the gut flora bacteria fingi that make you crave so bad and its science proven if you change the microbiom you can do that

Dr Berg, you're right! I'm at the end and it really hasn't been that difficult! I'm shocked! I try to eat mostly low carb with healthy fat. But a few carbs turns into way too many. Even donuts! 😱 But cutting out sugar this way? I can do this! Thank you!

Started with quitting bread, then sugar, then carbs in general when I went keto. Best thing i ever did! I was 237 lbs when I started. I'm now 178 pounds and under 10% bodyfat eating a whole food, protein biased diet with daily strength training and 15k steps.

People, please read this. I tried to give up eating sugar several times. Everyone kept saying it will get easier with time. But it was only becoming harder!! I thought about it every minute for 3 weeks straight until I finally gave up. I will try to use this method and post an update after a couple of weeks.

I quit sugar and carbs four years ago and everything Dr. Berg just said is true! Just throw every sugar laden, carb heavy "food" in the trash and start over with organic real food and see the difference in days.

One way I get off sugar is I go back to Dr. Eric Berg's video called "What Happens to Your Body When You Quit Sugar for 14 Days" and I replay that video before eating some pancakes. I'd replay it twice if needed lol. Because, listening to all of the side effects and damage that sugar does to the body and how brutal it can be was enough to get me to reconsider what I eat.

Thank you so much Dr.Berg. My craving for sugar was gone more than 1 year ago. Only because of your advices. But when I'm passing organic dates from Israel in the supermarket...it's so difficult not buy it. In that time I remember how you said sugar can give you a cancer. No sugar no worries 👍

I admit I have sugar cravings desipte I have been following you since 2018. I know all the concepts but it's hard when your family member doesn't have it, and you'll just to have to compromise on that. With that being said I can't turn down a soft fluffy "not that sweet" treat when I am having my matcha latte in the morning mostly close to noon.

I quit all forms of desserts 2.5 years back. I went cold turkey as a part of my spiritual process. I just decided - from now, I am not eating any more sweets. I do crave cakes or cookies or chocolates sometimes. But there is no irresistible urge. I can easily get over it. I bake cakes and I make a ton of Indian sweets. But I don’t try even one bite of any these.
