I'm Dr. Carlos and today I want to talk about the effects of quitting sugar for 15 days. I've seen many patients struggle with withdrawal symptoms when they try to give up sugar because sugar is highly addictive, even more so when it's consumed regularly. You may not even realize you consume sugar daily because it's hidden in many foods, such as sauces, bread, and crackers. In this video, I'll explain the changes you may notice in your body after quitting sugar for two weeks.
Some people worry that quitting sugar will cause hypoglycemia, fainting, or other negative side effects. However, our bodies can produce glucose from sources other than sugar, such as starches, fats, and proteins. Thus, quitting sugar is entirely safe and can benefit people with metabolic problems. It's unnecessary to quit sugar forever; taking a break can help you overcome addiction and develop a healthier relationship with it.
Here are ten things you may experience after quitting sugar for 15 days:
You'll feel like you quit an addiction, and you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, anxiety, nausea, or anger. If you do experience these symptoms, you are addicted to sugar.
You'll be less hungry, as consuming sugar frequently causes glucose and insulin spikes, which can interfere with hormones that regulate hunger, such as leptin and ghrelin.
You'll feel less tired as the glucose and insulin spikes caused by sugar consumption can lead to a sugar rush followed by a crash.
You may lose weight by losing fat and water when you have more control over your glucose and insulin spikes, and your metabolism starts to regulate.
Your skin may improve, as sugar consumption can lead to inflammation and affect the collagen in your skin.
You may experience fewer mood swings, as sugar can impact your mood, and consuming it frequently can lead to crashes and irritability.
You may improve your dental health, as sugar consumption can lead to cavities and tooth decay.
You may reduce your risk of chronic diseases, as consuming too much sugar is linked to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
Your taste buds may change, as quitting sugar can make you more sensitive to sweetness and help you appreciate other flavors.
You'll have more control over your food choices and be less likely to crave sugar regularly.
In conclusion, quitting sugar for a short period can have significant positive impacts on your health, including reducing hunger, tiredness, and inflammation, improving your mood, and reducing your risk of chronic diseases. So, if you're addicted to sugar or want to improve your overall health, give it a try and see what positive changes you can experience!

I took the 15 day challenge and it was amazing. I stopped eating processed foods with hidden sugars (which is everything commercial almost). I liked a scone or cookie with my coffee. Most of my snacking was processed, so I thought out substitutes (like blueberries -- sweet, but low glycemic). I ate avocadoes, walnuts, an egg, an apple or a piece of steak or salmon when I needed something! Instead of ice cream I ate frozen blueberries (low glycemic & cold!) I made stir-fry suppers with frozen veggies (for convenience), olive oil and a good protein, instead of a quick processed meal. No french fries (starchy sugars). Here were the benefits. Insomnia went away. I literally sleep through the night. I truy had more energy. Brain fog is 90% gone. I added another 2 weeks and decided I did not want to go back to sugar. I want good health and it was up to me. My skin stopped itching and just looked better. After 7 months a "sun spot:" on my face disappeared. My stomach started getting flatter (a sign of a healthier liver). Inflammation and aches went away. I can lift my legs to get into pants (balance better). Walked 2-3x/week (to my ability). I know my immune system is stronger. I feel 10 years younger and am not suffering, so this has become a life style. I feel better. At 7 months, I have lost 49 lbs. I am much healthier. Try it for 2 weeks to get past the cravings and think ahead on hunger/snack substitutes. Not that hard! I kept my coffee! I'm not going back. Wish you well and better health!

I’ve had no sugar for 6 months. No processed foods at all. Very low carb. Keto: fish, eggs, leafy vegetables, onions, mushrooms, cheese, nuts. black coffee, herb teas. I’ve lost over a stone, feel full, have more energy. All my sugar cravings have disappeared. My doctor said everything is better - cholesterol down, blood sugar down, heart rate perfect, blood pressure perfect. No aching, sleeping better. My self esteem has rocketed. Don’t miss junk food at all. Everyone tells me how good I look. Everything he says has happened to me. I’m nearly 70 and feel 20 years younger.

I have not had sugar for about 25 years. Maybe I get enough in a little bread or food but sugar itself makes me very ill. I learned to drink my coffee black instead of the sugar I used to put in it. I have not had an ice cream in over 20 years. The last ice cream made me very ill. I am now 92 years old and still have the energy to cook my meals and clean my house. I still function but with a certain amount of severe RA. Am a cancer survivor. Still live alone in my home and gardens. Doing quite well. Very small and weigh around 95 lbs. My mentality is still sharp,. I still do artwork and hobbies. Who needs sugar? I did not like sugar as a child. My mom would make hot cocoa for use in the winter time and it was so sweet I could not tolerate it. Also sweet ice tea and I still cannot drink sweet tees

I can see that as a possibility...but the benefits of getting off sugar are simply all around better health. I've had to do it twice in my life for a candidas overgrowth causing my entire body to be covered with rash. I had to go slow as I am an addict....so it's a matter of slowly incorporating healthy foods that I love and slowly removing foods with sugar. It's takes time ..the rash disappeared slowly....but if I ate sugar..the rash would come back. I'm over that for years now but still want to eat less sugar since it triggers inflammation and arthritis. Not to mention the highs and lows.

I am a sugar addict - have ALWAYS had a sweet tooth - and seem to have gotten worse as I’ve gotten older. I am going to try, once more, to get off it on a daily basis. If I can have a sweet once in a while, I am hopeful that I can still maintain a low sugar diet as I KNOW how inflammatory it is since my joint issues have also gotten progressively worse as I have gotten older. The good thing is aside from that I am a VERY healthy eater and that is probably the only reason I am not a full blown diabetic as this point but my blood glucose has recently risen above 100 each morning (fasting) and that is scaring me into action.

I’m 45 and have terrible memory, joint popping, and gastrointestinal bloating so I started to cut out sugar and caffeine. I can tell you that this doctor is right. 1st couple of days I was sluggish. And had to pee a lot. I couldn’t even sleep! However, I did notice no more gassy tummy. I’m now on day 7 and I can sleep. My focus at work is way better and so is my memory. I have more energy and fruits and veggies taste better! I drink tea now and eat fruit for energy. I’ve had to prepare my meals so I can actually control sugar. I still have cravings but I just tell myself I can have it tomorrow, then I forget about whatever I was craving.

I refuse to live with it, and with other health issues that have crept up on me after a lifetime of sugar addiction I need to change. I''m 56 and not diabetic but headed there. I'm quitting bread and pasta (I have celiac and all the gluten free alternatives are made with highly refined bad carbs) and other sugars also. I'm a few days in and have been eating less sugary fruit, like berries, as my treats. I'm so glad I saw your comment so thanks for sharing how it's helped you.

@@joan-lisa-smith I come from a long line of sleep apnea sufferers. My father has it, my sister is on a CPAP. I eventually started getting symptoms, and it was destroying my health. The reason why a whole food diet fixed my sleep apnea is that it prevents inflammation. Most sleep apnea is primarily caused by being over weight and inflammation. Please don’t be concerned about eating sweet fruit, the fructose is bound in the fiber and ensures slow release into the intestines. Fruit juice causes inflammation, whole fruit doesn’t. Avoid all alcohol, all baked goods, all refined sugar and all other processed foods, including gluten free options. It will mean preparing your meals by hand. I also added daily walking. I can assure you, you will lose the extra pounds and your sleep will gradually improve until the sleep apnea is completely gone. Good luck!

@@Simon-pl2zi Yes, I'm avoiding all that and oils (except some avocado or expensive high quality olive oil on rare occasion). All the processed, and often rancid, seed oils cause inflammation. One good thing about giving up bread is I no longer have margarine! I have chickens and a garden so my old breakfast was eggs with gluten free toast with margarine and coffee with 3 sugars, now it's an omelette (a tad of butter in the pan) with a ton of veggies and chives from the garden in it and a black coffee. Now that I cut carbs/sugar out of my breakfast I don't spend all day craving sugar anymore. Congrats on healing yourself and thanks for the tips :)

I call myself a “reformed sugar addict.” I gave up all my sugary junk food and desserts in December 2021. I felt really grumpy the first 7-10 days as I was detoxing off sugar, but then it passed. I do not drink alcohol, no coffee, not even tea. I actually enjoy drinking water. I do enjoy fresh fruit as a treat. I also love dried fruit like dates, but have to be careful with those because they are so high in sugar. I am mostly gluten-free too. Happy to say I don’t miss my old sugary binge foods. I know I can’t eat just one bite or just one piece. The addiction will kick in again and it’s not worth playing that game. Thank you for talking about how important it is to get off sugar. Truth!

Sugar is like alcohol. You will always be addicted to sugar. I agree with everything you say, except that you will be able to still enjoy sugar once in a while. It’s the same as alcohol. If you eat sugar, it won’t take very long to quickly begin to eat more and more and more of it you’ll be back in the same boat that you were. We don’t need sugar and if a person is addicted, they will always want sugar. It is a matter of what do you want more. Do you want to live with all the inflammation with the weight with mood swings, etc. Or do you want to feel better be more healthy be happier because you’re not giving into an addiction. It is very worth it to stop eating sugar in so many ways.

Wonderful video :) I stopped sugar 2 weeks ago, after a lifetime addiction to the poison. I stopped once before for 12 weeks, but then had a drinking choc and was straight back in the addiction. in the past I came off heroin, after a 34 year addiction to it, and came of a 4 year addiction to crack as well. both have been easier to stay off than sugar. Even tobacco has been easier to stay off. I can't say how much better I feel in just 2 weeks. It's so sad that we buy chocs for people as a present, when it is just going to damage them so much. I'm so glad that there are people like you who are here to educate people.

I worry about the sugar because of what it does to your skin but never knew about it possibly causing cardiovascular problems. I tell everyone I'm addicted but I will not make a trip to the store at weird hours of the morning if there's nothing sweet in the house which is often. I think that when I have something sweet, I have a tendency to eat it all right on that day like the four slices of cake someone gave me to take home that was gone by the end of the day and then I have nothing more until the next time I encounter something sweet or have to go to my Pharmacy which is oddly placed right next to the bakery at the grocery store which gets me into trouble. So maybe I am not addicted as I believed but maybe I'm a binge eater and then I'm done for a while. That would be one reason why someone might not have withdrawal symptoms I would think unless there is so much hidden sugar and all of the other foods I eat that I'm really not off of it at all.
@sable7114
@sable7114 5 ай бұрын
Pamela I posted 2 weeks ago and unless it's hidden sugar and I'm checking things and it only has a little sugar, if I eliminate everything that has hidden sugar I won't have anything to eat except fruits and vegetables . Anyway I haven't had any withdrawal symptoms either and I didn't feel the urge to buy a slice of cake that was on sale at the grocery store a couple of days ago. They had candy all over the kitchen table at work like someone had just hit a pinata, I don't know what kind of Decor that was, but I didn't touch not one piece. I did however start hitting chips a little bit. Don't really want to select a bad substitute for it.

I recently changes my diet in order to loose a few lbs. I do a brisk walk on the treadmill everyday for 30 minutes, and started counting my calories. I soon noticed that I was actually eating a low carb/low sugar diet by mistake. I never planned to, I just was trying to choose healthier foods for the calories that I wanted to intake for the day. I have lost 4 pounds in 9 days! I am now hardly ever hungry. Yesterday I only ate twice because I was not hungry for the rest of the day after I ate lunch. and that meal was only 345 calories! I am amazed at my results. I immediately started looking into the benefits of removing sugar and carbs from your diet and I am truly flabbergasted. I loveee me a good piece of cake, cookies or candy. I never thought that sugar could cause so many issues with the body. But after seeing the results I have, I am determined not to go back.

I love what you say here about not quitting it forever. I have definitely had my ups and downs with sugar. Recently, I went 18 days without sugar, then on the 19th day, I gave myself permission to eat sugar. Not only did I find I didn’t want to buy as much in the first place, but I ended up throwing stuff away, because I didn’t want to eat it all. I also realized it really wasn’t enjoyable. I made a story up in my mind that it would be so much fun, but it really wasn’t. Then, I ended up with phlegm that I haven’t had in days, a headache that I haven’t had in weeks, and acid reflux. I have started again, and plan to go at least two months without it, at which point I’ll be at Disney World, so we’ll see what happens. Most people I listen to think of sugar as the devil and that it isn’t good to eat it ever, but I’m starting to realize I don’t really feel that way and don’t want to feel that way. I definitely want to go back to eating the way I did when I was younger. I’d eat a piece of cake while out to eat, and never felt as though I couldn’t stop or that I wanted to eat sweets day after day.

I've avoided sugar for around a year now. The results have been nothing short of incredible: From 377 lb to 263 lb. Its insane. I feel better of course - my knees no longer ache from hauling too much weight around, I no longer get winded going up the stairs, I don't wake up in the morning with a splitting headache...and the most important thing: the 'fog' I would find myself in mid afternoons just no longer happens. It also makes me less hungry, and I usually skip breakfast now - seems unthinkable, but its now normal for me. On the weekends, I'll also skip lunch if I'm too busy to eat - again hard to believe. I don't consider it a 'diet'. Its more an attitude to make better decisions. If you walk into a gas station, you are surrounded by sugar - you just have to decide "not today". And the reason its not a diet: if somebody offers me a piece of birthday cake, for example, I'll ask for a small piece and eat it...and I haven't 'broken a diet'. Its just a rare treat.

My next challenge is to completely give up artificial sweetened beverages like Pepsi Max. It took me 28 days to be completely free of real coke and I'm expecting Pepsi Max will be easier. Bad Habits are hard to beat. Can I say this, the taste bud also changes its perception to saltiness. I usually like chicken salt with chips, but after being free of Pepsi Max for 4 days, I am not liking the saltiness anymore. Just my observation. Thanks for an amazing presentation. I actually decided to quit all refined/added sugars since February of this year, so 9 months ago as of this comment, and I can personally attest that everything on here is true. One day I was just thinking about something fairly simple I could change in my diet for the better and thought, why not try to give up sugar for a while as a start? But as all the positive changes started manifesting and I shockingly had no cravings or negative side-effects, I decided to swear it off for good. The only sugars I get are the natural ones in fruits and vegetables, and I've felt fantastic ever since making the choice. It's a bit difficult to manage at first, because SO MANY things have added sugars, even stuff you wouldn't normally think of, but avoiding these things becomes second nature after a while. I would really recommend trying to kick sugar for a while at least and see the difference for yourself.

I ate just some form of meat and vegetables on Saturday, Sunday, and yesterday and swear I already feel and look different. It’s not major, but even just slightly different is enough for me. I have also done my intermittent fasting those days and my strict two meals a day with zero snacks and I already feel way better than I did when I was trying to eat less but still eating tons of grains. Last night I heated up corn tortillas and rice for everyone else and didn’t touch it. It smelled good, and I know deep down I wanted it, lol, but I was able to resist it. It’s amazing how cutting carbs from grains and sugar can make you just not even need it anymore. I hope you kept up with it, it’s soooo worth it.

I cut back on sugar, carbs & some protein and lost 10kg in 3 months. I went on another doctor's Keto plan, didn't follow it religiously, and did not exercise much. However, I learnt that sugar, carbs, protein, soy & estrogen raise your insulin levels and burn sugars/carbs for energy. The ideal meal is half a plate of vegetables, quarter protein with a little fat & quarter low carb. With intermitten fasting, the body will burn fat for energy, and the weight will come off. You start with 3 meals a day, then 2, then 1. That may take 3 to 4 weeks. I didn't hurry, so my body adjusted to it and didn't have many cravings. Now I eat once a day within 3 hours, then fast. Eating healthy fats with the meal keeps you satisfied, and you can go without food for longer. However, during fasting, you can snack on vegetables, avocado, some nuts, and berries. It's also good to have a blood test to see the condition of your body, liver, kidneys, etc, for necessary vitamins and minerals, and more importantly, daily electrolytes. I start the day with lemon water, and sometimes water with a little apple cider vinegar. I tried for years to lose weight, and was eating less & less, but nothing worked 🙃. Insulin sensitivity and intermittent fasting did it for me. If you add exercise, it can be done in less time. Give it a try, slowly if you need to. Planning is another good tip. Good luck 👍

I did this. By the 3rd or 4th day i felt tired, drained, headache and easily irritated. I hung in there though and by 14 days i lost alot of inches apparently because clothes that were snug weren't anymore. I also lost 11 lbs. I decided to continue and didn't have cravings. Im proud of my results. I do think i started having insomnia some though, after a while. Oh and my face looks younger and my skin looks healthy and people have been compimenting me. 😊

I started ketovore 30 days ago. After just 3 days my craving for sugar was gone. I wad so full after eating meat I didn't want anything else. I do more carnivore than keto. I feel better than I have in years. No desire to go back to my old ways. Anyone who says they can't give up sugar should give ketovore a try.

Today is the 13th day of keto. I'm a sugar addict. I feel fantastic. First time in many years pain free. I have a new knee and repaired hip. Bad arthritis in my fingers/hands. I am amazed and delighted to feel so good. Do I still crave sweet? Oh yes I do but I don't crave it enough to return to my old bad habits.

I had Eczema and heard that sugar night be a culprit. So I quit sugar...got sick...recovered and noticed that I had stopped waking up at night itching. My skin is improving day by day. No fresh outbreaks. I'm going to the bathroom, 1 and 2 like a normal person AND my belly is shrinking. I'm afraid at this point of anything that has sugar in it because I absolutely cannot go back the the suffering of eczema. Thank God for this truth being exposed!
