I am 35, moved to USA and wanted to sound more American. Found your channel and it made me realise that at school nobody ever taught us anything about vowel sounds. Now i see for how many years i have been pronouncing things wrong... Thanks for this wonderful channel. I already improved my "R" 😁

I'm in school to be a high school history teacher. My ethnic background (where my parents and I immigrated from) is Eritrea, Africa. Read in English and spelled correctly. Our little country Eritrea (to English readers) is pronounced Eee-Rit-Ree-ah. When in fact if we spelled it as it's supposed to be pronounced. It would read, "AIR'IT'TREE-YA." I live in the Pacific NW of America. I've always enjoyed our form of speaking English because we have no state or regional accent. I was speaking with a first cousin back home in Asmara, Eritrea earlier. I was detailing the importance of understanding just what phonetics are and how to use them to your advantage. Our area of Africa is in such a remote area that nothing of the Western Hemisphere post when Europeans we're forced to find an alternate route to India (due to the fall of Constantinople and the creation of Istanbul). We're located to the north east on the continent and like bad-ass King Leonidas himself and his 300 of Sparta did to Xersis and his thousands and thousands of assassin's. That tiny corroder the Spartans used to their advantage where numbers counted for nothing? Now go to a world map and see what corridor Eritrea has with what sea narrows and borders our eastern shores and enters another great body of water. The woman in this video couldn't have been any more perfect of the exact type of English-soeaker I preach to any first generation Americans let alone my kin-folk back in the old country (Eritrea). Thank you for an excellent video. I made sure to subscribe and told my cousins in Eritrea to do the same 🖐🏾🇪🇷🇺🇸

French and English are among the most difficults languages to pronounce due to great amount of sound they have. I'm s Spanish speakear, and as all you know, we have just a little vowels sounds. That is the reason we can't recognize the subtles differences beetween: "suck" and "sock", or "seat" and "sit". This video is just awesome. Thanks a lot. Keep it up with your great channel.

Can you pls explain the difference in the vowel sound in the “sock” and “dog”-like words? I’m totally confused 😕
@thesmithtopher20002 жыл бұрын
@@milaalekseeva1238 In much of Canada and the US, those two sounds have merged and are the same sound (like my accent). In other accents, like the classic new york accent, they are very distinct sounds, like how a new yorker would say "hot dog", to me it sounds like "hat dwog" (hot is an olive word, dog is an auburn word). But in the chart, the sound are very similar. The person who made the chart makes the distinction but very subtly.

Keenyn's work is amazing! She's probably the only one in KZbin whose method to teach American English pronunciation is clear and effective. Currently, what I do to practice speaking is change the playback speed to 0.75 and shadow her speech throughout the video. That way, I can hear clearly the vowel and consonant sounds, and also I can try to match her intonation. Following this channel and practicing the way I do definitely took my speaking skills to the next level.
