Live in the Philippines and very hard to obtain supplies here for our hobby. Just ordered this tape. Thanks for your info! Working on a 1/32 TBM-3 now and lots of clear plastic!

That's a big ol' canopy and one of my favorite Navy planes! Let me know if you have any questions using it and I'll do my best to help. Thanks for watching!

Excellent method and video. I’ve used parafilm for a short while and it really works great as it does not leave any residue like tape or masking fluids. It takes a few tries to master its application but after that it’s easy and smooth. I subscribed.

Thank you so much! Yeah I stumbled upon it and couldn't believe it wasn't a more popular method. Decided to spread the word to the best of my small channels abilities haha.

Found a supplier in the uk that sells this by the metre so for £5 got myself enough to do maybe 20 or so models. Just tried it on a 1/72 scale spitfire, looks like its worked really well and much easier to apply and cut than a low tack masking tape. Thanks for the tip ! 😁

"Found a supplier in the uk that sells this by the metre..." So, what, you keeping it a secret from your fellow Brits? TRAITOR! 😉 Seriously though, where did you get it from, please?

Awesome thank you for sharing. I saw this a few years back from KZbinr Flying S Models. So I got the huge roll from Amazon. Didn’t have much luck with it or even kobuki tape. I try fresh blades and I still manage to cut into the plastic. But I use a safety razor so I will try that. Again thanks for the advice
@SCM2239 ай бұрын
Safety razors really are the best aren't they!? It's actually kind of hard to dig in too deep with the razor blades because you don't have a lot to grab, therefore not much leverage. Even if you can see a line though, I've had success hiding them by applying thinned gloss varnish. Thank you for watching and I hope it goes better for you!

In the past, I had bought a small quantity of Parafilm on a roll in a blister pack from Testors.

Wow, what a great idea. I hate masking canopies. I was about to either quit airplanes or just not paint the frames (getting bogged down with it). I will try this.
@SCM2234 ай бұрын
I feel the same. When I went from armor to planes, I threw out the first two (luckily cheap) airplanes. Masking fluid, different tape methods etc. I think you'll be happy with it and just keep in mind, you can buy it in much smaller sections on eBay and Etsy. Amazon only sells it by the roll.
@kennethromine63324 ай бұрын
@@SCM223 I just tried it. Man, this is the best !! Best canopies I have ever done. This stuff makes it almost easy to mask of canopies. THANKS
@joshuamurphy492810 ай бұрын
So I happened to acquire a decent amount of this. Have you used this for masking anything else other than canopies such as painted parts? Figured I would might as well using it up if I have it.
@SCM22310 ай бұрын
Yes! I use it pretty frequently for hard edge camouflage. You can either lay it out on a cutting mat and cut your design and transfer it but that can be tricky because it sticks to itself. What I usually do is stick it on the actual model and cut it out. The Parafilm is really thin and cuts way easier than tape so as long as you're using a really sharp knife, it doesn't dig into the paint. I use a fresh safety razor blade for the old school butterfly opening razors. You can break them in half so you're only working with one edge. I also use it to mask lines if there's a lot of bumps and stuff sticking out. You can just kind of stretch it over that stuff and cut your lines. One warning though, it can have trouble sticking to matte paint. So if it keeps lifting off, take your bare finger and hold it on the film for a while and the warmth should make it stick.

I suppose the ultimate test for use in masking camo, is if it lifts the paint when removed. I'm assuming as parafilm is low tack, that there are no issues in that respect, but does it leave any residue on matt paint like blue tac can if it's left too long.?@@SCM223
