One of the few Mints that are open in the world is Scottsdale Mint which is US based. They are the official mint for the Cayman Islands Government coins. They mint for dozens of countries, banks, etc. I spoke with SWP Vault in the caymans and they told me this and that they are getting a lot of their Gold and Silver from Scottsdale.

Two factors drive the value of gold; it‘s natural scarcity and the sovereign protecting it market. If either factors are not to the advantage of the holder, it not worth investing it. I always believe owning gold under a friendly skies is more imported than it scarcity.

What percentage of gold vs bitcoin in a portfolio with only those for a milenial in his mid twenties with high income, high risk tolerance and saving as much as possible ?? At the moment I only have 100% Bitcoin and some altcoins in the top 10. Does Gold even make sense to me when I want as much growth as possible in a very long time horizon ? If yes would physical gold make any sense or I should rather look for liquidity and ease of being in / out (plus the premium costs implications). I honestly only see myself with physical gold once I already have a considerable amount of wealth but your thoughts are more than welcome.

I wouldn't recommend anyone be more than 25% bitcoin as an investment, unless you really just want to gamble. Physical gold isn't a bad idea if you want to own it for a min of 5 years. If you want more liquidity and ability to trade out of it, paper is fine.

The US Mint just shut down in the last day with no guidance as to when it will reopen. This was reported today by Andy Schectman of Miles Franklin. Physical metal supplies are drying up; the supply chain is broken. Premiums aren't going down anytime soon. And yes, gold is remonetizing since Basel III made it a tier 1 asset.

Buy paper to hedge against the uptick in value until physical premiums fall.

Gold miners are even more paper than ETFs. They don't own the gold in the ground. The sovereign owns Earth gold. The executive branch grants a license to the miner to dig it out and sell it. You are investing in a business in which the value wholly rests on a government license. Mineral rights are subject to the fickle and changeable will of the people. Seems like the most risky way to 'hold gold for yourself' at the moment. You won't be permitted to take any of that sovereign wealth for yourself.

Three comments: 1. Gold has always been treated as real money & the repository of wealth. The variable here is the number of people that recognize this, apparently more now than ever in recent of times. 2. It’s no surprise the central banks are buying gold, after all, they control the ‘money printing’ and the timing of the devaluation & ultimate crash of currencies via hyperinflation. As the end of the game approaches, of course central banks will drive their wealth in to gold in a variation of a grand short-selling scheme of their currency; it’s brilliantly diabolical. It’s horrible! 3. It’s a false assertion here to believe the dollar’s reserve status is not in question. Globalist elites like George Soros state that the age of the dollar as the world’s reserve is waining. Ostensibly it’s tough to argue with that in light of the egregious rate of monetary expansion (inflation) by the FED. And the Covid-19 event is only exacerbating this trend.

swave158, check for online inventory from Silver Eagles to 90/10 “junk silver” coins and it becomes readily apparent silver is in great demand, and that greater-than-usual premiums are being had by the dealers. This reality is indicative of the longstanding “bi-metallic” tradition of currency in the US. Ostensibly, both gold AND silver are “honest” (real) money whereby both preserve wealth & purchasing power.
