Metro is a really good game. But to make it better, play it on the hardest difficulty. Then it'll be even better. But that's just my opinion.
Discord: / discord
Metro (2033 and the sequels) is a survival horror series based on a book with the same name. It's very highly rated, and personally also one of my favorite series. I played Metro 2033 Redux, because while I do have the original, the redux has better visuals, and that's personally more important than the historical nature of the original.

As for why you can ""look at your watch"", one of its main functions is to show you how much time you have left for your gasmask filter! It works in the ranger hardcore difficulty as well!

@@TopCityGhostHunts There are so many little details like this in this game that honestly make the METRO experience totally different to anything else. The lighter burning cobwebs, pointing you to your next objective, and acting as an auxiliary light source. The watch showing not only how much time you have left on your filters when your mask is on, but what time it is IRL without having to exit the game when your mask is off. The little blue light on your watch that tells you if you can be seen by enemies. The cutouts in the magazines that show you how many shots you have left. The pressure gauges on pneumatic weapons that tell you how much air you have left and how powerful the next shot will be. I could go on for hours about all the little things that this game series does aside from the fun and intuitive gameplay or brilliant first person linear story. 2033, Last Light, and Exodus have got to be some of the greatest games I've played in recent years and make modern AAA titles look like a total joke.

Also, in the OG Metro 2033 you can kill enemies in one or two shots as opposed to the Redux version which is noticeable cause in the original Khan can pretty much mow down most of the nosalises in the tunnel( the one you said you died in forty times) before the anomaly arrives so you don't have to lift a finger.

The watch on your arm keeps track of how much air you have left, along with a warning beep when you are low. You can see your equipment by holding down M to pull out a lighter, and clipboard. With them equipped, hit right mouse to bring up the clipboard and it shows your inventory. Hitting left mouse will activate your lighter, which gives off minimal light, and the flame actually points you in the direction to go. Holding tab, and moving your mouse still allows you to switch your throwable, you just have to pay attention to the equip sound to tell what you just equipped. And if you are uncertain, the clipboard inventory also tells you what throwable you have active. Holding Y gives you a clear view of your watch, along with the magazine of assault rifles to tell how many bullets you have left in the mag.

I know this is an old video, but that extra difficulty thing in the options menu is exclusive to the Redux versions of 2033 and Last Light, basically it's asking you which of the games you preffered, normal is Last Light, so you get the nixie tube watch which gives much clearer reads on how much time is in your filters and it makes the enemies a little less tanky. Hardcore makes the game more like 2033, where enemies are a little more dangerous and it swaps the watch back to the analogue watch Artyom has in the original, which is a little harder to read if you don't know what you're looking for
@roningunslinger4511
@roningunslinger4511 7 ай бұрын
The only thing that it doesn't change about the watch regardless is the little blue light to tell you if you're hidden or not, the original had a traffic light system of three lights, red, orange and green for not hidden, kinda hidden, and completely hidden respectively. Last Light just changed it to hidden and not hidden so only 1 light

@@roningunslinger4511 Yeah, I definitely prefer the simple blue light over the red, yellow and green. iirc the og light system wasn't exactly as reliable as say the light gem system in the Thief games. @@demonlordoftheroundtable2456 It wasn't quite that reliable because you were still visible from close range (±2 metres) in the green light level. I played the original 2033 atleast 15 times back in the day. We use to be able to get a machinegun in armory and that would give a ton of bullets Which would then allow you to buy the heavy armor sold there. Alas it was removed in the remastered edition. Since every bullet counts in 2033, I always ended up using ball bearings as ammo. I got to the point where I didnt use any ammo in the beginning levels and I could beat the intro using just a knife. That way I saved the revolver ammo. Or I would forgo weapon upgrades as I knew I could pick them up down the line for free. I knew every bullet stash location to keep that currency building. All of this was on ranger hardcore mode. For which I grew to enjoy. I could use less ammo and things seemed more real. Where selecting a weapon relied more on its sound than a visual. Lastly, I called myself keeper of the light. Since in the book lightbulbs were the most valued object in the metro. I went out of my way to turn off or unscrew every lightbulb in order to preserve these for future explorers.

The best way and most immersive way to play any metro game is in the hardest difficulty. Every bullet counts, you don't know if you will be able to survive in the surface with your filters time left, everything can kill you. That's the true survival horror experience, it makes you feel relieved when you get to a "safe" place. I played the original Metro 2033 for the first time in 2014 and I have finished it a few times, I have the "Last Man Standing" achievement and it's my favorite achievement because after years of playing the game, I decided to try to get it and I did in 2021, it was hard, I remember some parts of the game, being stuck with 1 bullet and lots of enemies, no filters on the surface, etc. It's also a rare achievement bc it has 4.3% "earn rate" (idk how to say it lol but the % of people who got it) and it's also a game that is not for sale anymore, so it makes it more rare I think. Metro games are my favorite saga of games, I played Last Light Redux some years ago in the hardest difficulty (I think, bc there's no achiement lol, next time I'll get a screenshot at least to remember), and I'm currently playing Metro Exodus after years of not being able to play it bc of my PC. In ranger easy bc is the first time I'll complete the game and I don't want it to be a "where te fuck do I press E?!" kind of difficulty. There's also a "Iron Mode" in Exodus that is playing the whole game without dying I think, I want it, I don't know if I will get it some time but I want to get it. This is a great video, very fun and I agree, playing metro on the hardest difficulty is the best way way to experience any metro game :D

Although the ranger difficulty was obviously designed for people who already finished the game once, I think it works just fine for people who are into this type of games. I remember playing it on a shitty PC MANY years ago, and it worked just fine, with the only odd part being that the interact icon would not pop-up and make just a few scenes slightly harder to progress as a result.
@ChrissieBear
@ChrissieBear Жыл бұрын
Just don't go into ranger blind in Exodus, since many prompts aren't obvious and you'll be frustrated. I've seen a lot of people complaining about not being able to play the game on ranger blind like they did with 2033 and Last Light because the environmental interactions aren't obvious.

@@YveldiExodus has probably the most difficult iteration of Ranger Hardcore. The enemies are even more perceptive during stealth sequences than Redux on Ranger Hardcore and it goes back to the first two games autosave only, meaning if you haven't recently got a checkpoint or rested at a hideout, then you could lose up to 30 minutes of progress.

@@CommanderPaulB I prefer 2033 over Last Light and Exodus. The first game is based on the book however, the second was written just for the game by the author because there was not enough memory at the time to go off the book. Another thing I found strange is how we meet Pyotr late game in Last Light but, he is the first character we’re introduced to in the first book. IMO the first game should have started off identical to the book, that would’ve been much more terrifying than how it played out.

Never ever start a metro game with ranger hardcore on your first playthrough. It doesn’t just up the difficulty, but also gets rid of a lot of UI elements. If you’ve played the game a bunch of times before, you’ll already have a feel for how it works and not really need the UI as much, but it will be confusing to roll without it for your first try.

I literally just finished metro 2033 redux on survival ranger hardcore. Had such a blast and it felt surprisingly balanced the whole way through. I’ve already finished exodus on the hardest difficulty but I’m planning to play the whole trilogy on ranger hardcore again. I love games with good high difficulty, a lot of games simply up the damage and lower yours but that makes it so unfun and frustrating

I just simply like that when you play in Ranger Hardcore, you dont get the bullshit with dumping rounds after rounds into a human enemy and they wont die

2033 and last light are the absolute best single player campaigns i've ever played in any game. i must have beat both games at least 15 times both on the very very hardest difficulty including doing it full pacifist achievement and the kill all enemies achievement. metro exodus was very good too but coming away from the metro and cities wasnt something i liked. the claustrophobic setting of the metro and its above city gave it the amazing atmosphere it had.

I haven't watched all of it yet but to see where your throwables are on the wheel, hold M then bring up your notepad. It shows all the details.

The best way to play the metro series is on max difficulty. Some of the best challenges i've ever had are from this game on max difficulty. I got stuck on the swamp and the cave boss in the same exact way. Literally, reduced to a single clay-more, a handful of pistol rounds, and my knife, fighting a boss who has max health, on the hardest difficulty. Especially the swamp boss, holy cow, you're also timed on that one from oxygen deprivation/radiation sickness. I literally climbed across the log with 4 seconds left on my mask completely covered in jam right before deaths door and triggered the cut-scene. It was incredible because not only did i actually beat it, but the cut-scene itself is everyone trying to pull your half dead body into the building acting all worried (which makes no sense if you breeze through the boss with tons of time left on your mask), so I actually felt like my gameplay was lore accurate. Incredible series. One of the few in gaming that ever came close to giving me the same thrill as hunting chimera in the rain around Zaton with only a knife and 2 claymores to my name.

The game isn't based on "Metro 2034" book but is on "Metro 33" book.

I played ranger Hardcore and it really is the only way to truly immerse yourself in the world of Metro. You truly feel tense and like you're not going to make it at all times because of the lack of supplies. I got about halfway through the first game which took me three times as long to do as my previous normal difficulty but once I got to the rail shooting section, I had a glitch where Artyom put on the night vision goggles as soon as the section started. I couldn't see anything because it was just a bunch of white blurs and blobs and of course you die in like four hits. I sat there and tried for hours to complete the section but simply couldn't make it work so I stopped. Seems similar to the gas mask bug you had.

Funny you mention that NVG bug. I had the exact same thing on my ranger hardcore playthrough 2 days ago... almost made me quit the game but i tried to pull through and i did eventually

I haven't watched the video yet, but I want to say Metro 2033 is definitely one of my favourite game, the same level as Half-Life even. Same with their respective sequel and remake/remasters. I remember the time where I got frustrated with the weird feeling control if compared to Half-Life and other GoldScr/Source engine games, which I played a lot. But I guess that memory is the basis that makes me fond of this game. I preordered Exodus with no regret at all despite at that time it was my last money I had for the whole month LOL.
