Thank you for the video! I agree and I wish the PC version was better. With Beetle PSX and DuckStation, there is a way to eliminate the texture wobble completely, however it breaks the game lol so it is basically unusable, there are PGXP options for Memory only or Memory + CPU. Memory only is stable and it eliminates texture wobble in most games, but MGS1 Is one of the few games that requires Memory + CPU to eliminate the wobble and that option is very buggy. Hopefully the developers are able to fix that.

Actually in DuckStation you can enable the CPU mode, and it almost eliminates all the texture wobble, I just finished it and it's awesome

Duckstation’s geometry correction, upscaling, and downsampling for me. What you get is the the PS1 resolution with antialiasing but without a wobble. More importantly, without jarring juxtaposition between 3D and 2D elements.

When I played the PC version around 10 years ago, the FMV cutscenes wouldn't even work. They were static white boxes the entire time as the audio and dialogue played in the background. Praise the emulator.

There should've also been a comparison to the PC version with all the fixes people have made throughout the years. Like, the bilinear stuff is literally fixed with a simple command-line being added to the permissions of the game for example. Not saying it's a perfect fix-all thing for the PC version, but it seems silly to leave out an obvious option of the fan fixes that have existed for years when comparing the versions

the only thing that bother me about duckstation it has no framebuffers effect to disable those blury cutscenes just like ePSXe but the last one is no match for duckstation ! , the font is just sux . PC version only Win in font nothing else ! You are the best ! keep going like this

This definitely needs an update as to using the Duckstation. It has been updated. I'm struggling to copy your settings to mine as the setting features have changed. Other than that, this was a fantastic game when it came out on PS1...../cheers!

Yea I have the GOG version and frustrating part is most youtube tutorials give the 'alternate strategy' to defeat Psycho Mantis. Even though that strategy you are guaranteed to not get Big Boss rank that way. Having to defeat Psycho Mantis by keyboard is a bit tedious. Especially since when you are complete, you just go back to probably using controller anyways.

I've only ever played Metal Gear Solid from the PC port. I had no idea it was so bad. Hopefully the Master Collection is better. EDIT: Started replaying the game using ePSXe. I'd switch to DuckStation, but I'm so used to ePSXe. You're right though, the PlayStation version is better. 2nd EDIT: ePSXe wouldn't recognise the second controller no matter what I did and I got stuck on Psycho Mantis. I switched to DuckStation. Not only did it work, but it's much less restricting too. With ePSXe, you couldn't change any setting while a game was loaded, but you couldn't stop the game either. You had to quit ePSXe and reload it. DuckStation made it so much easier to change settings. You are so wise and smart.

3:40 sorry but right side looks like a blurry mess. And FMVs on PSX version are cropped, PC has full wide shots. Sounds do need a user patch to fix.

in pcsx the lines do not fail, the walls do not twist or anything, with pgxp epsxe equal , pcsxr and epsxe best emulation stability , and epsxe contains subpìxel precision similar to pgxp ;) 😉👌🌟

Does emulating it through Duckstation have the proper sound tracks? Boss fights are best with the Duel theme.

On my PC the PC version can't even play the fmv. But the keyboard control isn't bad , it's good enough and you can remap it. Maybe the only good thing of the PC version is the high resolution of the... subtitle :D

Yes but you need to be careful with the overclocking and PGXP. Those settings can break certain games, if you see anything weird turn either or both of them off.

Silent Hill 1 at 250% overclock will make it play at a solid 60 fps but you need to activate the fps unlock cheat which is already in the cheats folder.

The PC version assumes that you would play via a gamepad (controller 1), and you have to switch to the keyboard (controller 2), which is dumb because there are people who primarily play on keyboard like me.

Retroarch - BeetleHW for me... widescreen hack, multiple times increased resolution, anti-aliasing, filtering, shaders, and better polygon/texture stabalisation fix than DuckStation.

Any tips? I have a powerful PC, but when I swapped my OS, my favorite game stopped working, and I just felt like playing MGS, but since it's a beefy compute, and I barely got to pay games on it, it's in his prime, and it feels wong making the game I play most on a GTX 1060 be a PS1 game from 1998, I've never been bothered by graphics but you get what I'm having trouble with, when you buy a new playstation, you want to make the first game you play really show off the hardware

I discovered your channel a couple months back when you released that MGS2 on PC video and it was pretty good. When watching your videos they've been, alright. They're not great nor bad, but decent. Some videos should be improved upon like the MGS3 and 2 and RDR running on PC by not only showing footage of it running on RPCS3, but also on Xenia, as you forgot to cover those games running on that emulator, RDR especially as it has better performance on Xenia than on RPCS3. Covering MGS2 and 3 running Xenia is important for those videos, as people might not have a beefy CPU but maybe rather a pretty good GPU. Regardless, I've been having a blast watching these videos, and I hope the algorithm takes you in and lets many other people watch your videos. I hope you all the best for your future endeavours.

Hey thanks man! So I didnt include Xenia in those videos because I didnt even know it had playable games yet. But I checked it out, and MGS2 & MGS3 have major graphical glitches on it. Is there a way to play it without glitches? I tried Peace Walker and that worked fine, but MGS2 and 3 were unplayable.

Best way is Bleemcast Dreamcast if you know you know 640x480 full scene AA filtering and texture wobble gone.

I played Twin Snakes on Dolphin for the first time a month ago and that's become my preferred way to play MGS1, if you can stomach the cutscene direction :P, using Gecko Codes it displays widescreen very well but figuring out how to translate Gamecube controls to an Xbox pad is tricky. Otherwise most PS1 emulators offer a great way to play it, i use the Beetle HW core on Retroarch.

Twin Snakes gets way too much hate imo. Yeah they made some questionable design choices, but it's still the best looking version for mgs1. I just can't go back to ugly ps1 polygon graphics. Even without the wobble it still looks atrocious nowadays.

Yeah retroarch beetle psx HW does glitch fading screen. Maybe duckstation will do better like you said.

Agree, tried PC version recently, it looks and feels really good. This video is some console bias bs. PC version works full screen for me even on a very large 4k display and plays just great. I don't really notice anything bad about it, because I haven't played console version, therefore I'm not that biased like the author of this video. For an average player who hasn't tried console version, PC version is just great and you don't need complex setup like those console emulators.
