What do you say in your email when you're making first contact. Could you provide an example?

Hello question I did a review for a product that I purchased and have no ties with the company. However now the company wants to use it for marketing, how do I price that out? 1st time this has happened to me

Here's a thought about "free spec ads." Negotiate for an endorsement statement that the client agrees to, promoting and complimenting your work as well as an NDA that prohibits them from disclosing that it was free. Then leverage their endorsement for paid work.

Great advice, what budget would you advise for a first spec commercial?

Yes, this would be another helpful one

If this is your first spec ad, I would try to keep your budget as low and affordable as you can. Shoot with friends and use whatever is around you. As you build your portfolio and client base, you can save up some money to put into your spec ad budgets.

@@chiaemmanuel3611 oh thank you, really appreciate it. I was planning on shooting my first one but someone did say it could cost over £2.5k and I was like 😳, is that a low budget?

@@BenjaminSam100 When talking about a budget, a lot of times its just referring to the items we don't already have in our arsenal. Assuming you already have lights, camera, and a location, you be able to do a spec ad for free! I shot one recently for a watch, and I did it all in my kitchen. The budget was $60. $30 for the black backdrop, and $30 for the watch.

Great timing, I just wrapped a spec ad for an E-bike shop in Oahu and the Marriott next to it is trying to get me to sign a predatory contract where they will own the video. Definitely trying to push back on that and figure out negotiations if they want to license it. Any extra tips in that arena?

My advice would be to hire a lawyer that has knowledge on filmily laws in Hawaii. or perhaps contact a studio there that has experience with this. Hawaii can be weird about filming for commerical use.

Sorry for the late reply! Without knowing too much about the situation, it seems odd that Marriott would do that over a spec ad. Listening to what their concerns are and trying to chat through it is always great, but I think @max317 has a good call too. Reaching out to a studio might be super helpful. And free!
