my elder brother was born 10 years after dragon ball came out and he's a huge fan, when I was little (pre-teen years) I genuinely enjoyed it thanks to him and watched dragon ball super as it aired in 2015, but somewhere before super ended I stopped and haven't watched it since. Correct, if you're watching the original Dragon Ball Z, you can watch up until episode 288. Then watch the entirety of Super, but keep in mind that Super is still an ongoing series and the anime still needs to adapt what has already happened in the manga. But after you're caught up to Super, you can resume DBZ on episode 289. The point of Dragon Ball Heroes is that it doesn’t make sense, which is weird but that’s what it is you know? DBH is a video game card game in Japan where you can use any characters to team up and fight anybody regardless if it makes sense or not. It’s like the old DBZ games where you could pick a random team to fight a random team and then you could beat Perfect Cell with Nappa. It makes absolutely no sense and that’s the point, it’s all just for fun. The Dragon Ball Heroes anime is just a “promotional anime” meant to get people to buy the cards for the video game. It’s like a commercial. Hopefully that answers your question. Long story short, it doesn’t make sense because it doesn’t want or need to make sense, it’s just promoting a video game.

That's fair, I know inaccuracy can turn a lot of people away. Both the original dub and the sub are great but if you want an accurate sub, DB Kai does its best to keep things close to the original manga, both story-wise and dialogue-wise.

Watch the movies first because they’re considered to be “standalone” and came out first. The episodes basically tell the same story, but slightly different and it’s expanded upon through episodes since a movie is pretty short. The episodes directly tie into the remainder of the DBS anime, so watch those after the movies if you plan on watching all that you can

I’m trying to understand how you compiled this. If it’s based off the time of the release, for example you say to watch Dragon Ball ep:1-132 and then what Dragon Ball movie one But if we go based off of release dates. Episode 132 aired November 2, 1988 and the movie aired Dec 20th, 1986. So if it’s based off of release date shouldn’t we watch Dragon Ball ep: 1-43 because the 43 ep aired Dec 17, 1986 three days before the movie was aired? Maybe I’m thinking to hard on the matter I’m just trynna figure out how to watch all my anime in the correct order of things😂

This list is mostly based off release, but it also takes into account the best way to watch the series so you’re not spoiled on things. I have the movies placed where they are because they either retell events from the anime episodes, or they have certain things (forms, techniques, etc) in them that would be a spoiler for the main show. I personally believe this is the best way to watch spoiler free so you still get enjoyment out of the show’s surprises and what not. But, I also made a different list that has everything in chronological order based on the franchise’s timeline. I get what you mean but it’s not a mistake including both the movies. They both came out before the DBS series started airing so they were considered canon at one point. Watching them and then jumping into the series is what most everybody did at the time since the show’s version of those arcs arent much different. But thanks for the comment! Yes this is the perfect way to watch it for the first time! Canon, to try and explain what it means, is something that is accurate to Akira Toriyama’s original manga. So the DBZ anime is an adaptation of Toriyama’s work, it’s directly lifted from the creator. But the movies aren’t canon because they aren’t made by Toriyama. Hopefully that makes sense

That’s honestly up to you. It might get a bit difficult if you’re including filler though, but if you don’t mind bouncing around here and there, maybe read the manga first? The manga released its chapters before the anime made its episodes, so it makes sense to read first then watch

Nope, you could skip most of them if you want! They're not canon, they're just meant to be watched for fun. The only ones you'll want to watch are Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero (which wasn't released when this video was made) since those two movies are canon.

Voice casts are entirely different if you’re watching the dub, the animation and production quality is vastly different, that’s why people typically don’t mix the two since the movies follow the “DBZ” continuity rather than Kai. If you really want to watch the movies though, I could look back at the Kai episodes and see where the movies would go.

Yeah somewhat like what Casual-Gamer said. Canon is stuff officially written/created by the Dragon Ball creator, Akira Toriyama, or he has some involvement in those things, so it’s part of his story. Things that are non canon are things created by outside sources such as Toei Animation, that aren’t part of Toriyama’s original vision

For the most part. There’s tinier things that absolutely don’t matter or have been lost to time (like commercials, Goku’s safety training PSA videos, or the 4D films that are only experienced in person at certain locations) But other than that, you’re all caught up in the mainstream anime until more shows and movies come out

It basically just means it’s canon so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Sorta canon stuff fits in perfectly with other canon material, but it isn’t referenced by that canon material enough to be part of the “main” story The Yo Son Goku OVA for example, fits in perfectly and Tarble WAS mentioned in the Battle of Gods movie, which was canon before the BoG episodes came out in the Dragon Ball Super anime.
