Students at my school can get a BodPod session for $10. When I got 5.8%, the operator was confused to why I was a little upset. I thought I was higher and had more weight to lose to look better. He emailed me the next day and thought I was right, I probably am higher. I retested and got 6.2% on the BodPod and I think 12.8% on BEI which seems much more accurate. Idk why this was.

I have done a hydrostatic test in a much smaller, less deep tub with straps to help you stay down. It wasn't that bad. Only cost like $45 too. Would recommend if DEXA is double.

I wonder if there’s a potential niche market for MRI body comp measurement. I do MRI analysis for medical research, and with a standard full-body scan we can literally see and segment every tissue type in your body, no ambiguity, plus we can measure the volume of individual muscles. Yes this would be very expensive between the MRI appointment and paying for expert analysis, but in the first place this would appeal only to rich fitness freaks and serious bodybuilders already paying thousands monthly for gear.

Nice job! The biggest thing that helped me lose 12-14 lbs the last 8 weeks and mostly maintained my strength is I keep a running total of my calorie intake on my phone, and track everything. I eat 2,000-2100 calories and then one day per week I eat 2,800. I try to get 10,000 steps in, lift weights about 5 days a week, and sprinkle in some HIIT or 10% incline treadmill throughout the week. As soon as I started tracking my calories, I saw immediate results.

MRI scanners usually cost north of a million, depending on field strength, manufacturer, and model. You can't turn them on and off easily because they are kept supercooled with liquid helium. If you were to turn it off that helium would rapidly heat up and be ejected through a pipe before it explodes. Replacing the helium is the main reason why it costs so much to turn it off.

I was 117lbs at 5'9 exactly one year ago and i've gone up to 164lbs and obviously gained a lot of body fat with that weight but when it said 34%bmi when i've been 17% my whole life was a shocker. I knew I'd gotten chubby but didn't think anywhere near 30+%. I've since dropped about 14lbs and actually have faint abs even though I still am probably 25%bmi. I honestly don't know how accurate that really was as I've always been extremely skinny in the mid teens of bmi until recently bulking up. The fact i can see my upper 2 abs right now indicates i should be around 20% or lower. idk...

We used digital skin fold calipers when I was a trainer 20 years ago. Super fast, but just have to be very, very consistent with your techniques with each individual client. Purely for tracking change. Gotta really burn into your client's mind that the actual number doesn't matter. Nowadays, I don't even care about bf% checks for myself. Mirror, weight and training progress. Completely agree on that.

I use skinfold calipers as well, and just do my absolute best to be as consistent as possible so I can see the changes in fat thickness. I look in the mirror too but it just doesn't seem as objective as getting a 6mm skinfold on my abdomen, for example. I have found the Calculators seem to underestimate bf% if you use those.

Been taking 9 point measurements twice weekly for the past 2 years. Has been immensely helpful for fine tuning my diet and training.

I think people drastically under estimate their body compositions. I'm 5ft 11in and didn't stop cutting this last time until I was about 8% body fat. That ended up being about 135lbs... Everyone I talk to says that is way too little weight, and I'm finally realizing nobody knows what they're talking about.. I didn't cut unsafely, about 1lb a week while making sure I got at least .8g per lb. body weight protein while strength training. I know how to measure my body fat now with body fat calipers as well as visually. And I have anectodical evidence to suggest I'm stronger and feel better now closer to my 40s than I have my entire life. I think a lot of us might be heavier than we need to be, and there's a recent movement to normalize us all being overweight. Don't buy into it outright. Understand there is a possibly of losing weight and feeling better, not just because you look thinner, but because you're actually healthier and the way you look can correlate with how you actually feel.

I'm 5'11" 194 lbs, just turned 40. I've been cutting about 8-9 weeks, started out at 206-207 lbs. If my skin fold measures are to be believed then I'm supposedly 6.5%, but visually from the pictures on this video, I would say somewhere between the 6-7% pic and the 10-12% pic. I've dropped about 3 lbs since my profile pic. But to your point, I feel fantastic being leaner but there are definitely days where I am just low on energy.

My goal is about 10% bf(strongly visible Abs that's how I judge it) and I estimate I'm about 14 to 16% right now. I am down from just over 25% although it's a rough estimate too. I feel depleted sometimes but that's due to diet fatigue. Otherwise where I'm at now I feel way way better than those times I was 20 and 25+, way more energetic even in a caloric deficit whilst training hard. Most people cut and then immediatly start bulking and don't stay at the lower bf% I think they are confusing diet fatigue with being depleted due to being too light weight. Myself when I reach my goal I'm planning to stay there for about 4 weeks and then start bulking again. But I already am convinced I never want to be 20%+ again

Just did a dexa, 28.3% but actually sorta happy with how high it is, because, honestly I look pretty decent, so it's nice to know I don't need to be an absolute sicko and get down to like 8% to look great. I figure a realistic goal would be .5% decrease per week, so got another dexa scheduled for 12 weeks, gonna eat clean and see if i can get to 22-23 and with it greek demigod status. Maintain for a month or so, then another 12 week cut and see if we can hit mount olympus level. Macros are 145g protein 65g fat 255 g carbs for like roughly 2150ish. If i come in under 2100 on the day (and i rough estimate) i'm gonna be happy with that. Thanks for everything @drmike i've learned so much from your channel

I'm 36 and eat constantly it seems but I can't gain weight to save my life... I've been gaining like ¼lb a week for the last month. I just started working out for the 1st time in my life something like 6 weeks ago. I am stuck at 145 lbs / 5`10" and have been stuck here since 2004.... 😂 I need to start lifting I sapose. Thought I could get away with just body weight training. Push-ups 4-5 days a week just trying to get my strength up before I start the weights but I struggle to gain just from eating. Also I'm highly active at work. I work for an excavation company n Def get my cardio in every day almost just at work. Idk. I'm very new to this trying to take care of myself thing but I'm starting to feel better but I'm still just a skinny prick... 😅

18.3% by DEXA back in December. Getting another done next week, been on a cut since Dec, but a gentle one. (Down 10 lbs since Dec.) Hoping for 15 or less. Guess we will see....

Just had a Dexa, it said I was 20% BF at 202lbs. Going to try and get to 15% at 187-190 :)

35% maybe. Once did a dexa scan once, 88kg non fat mass. Pretty high for 5'9"

Amazing work! I've lost 28lbs in 5 months and I'm probably 30-40% body fat. I did lose weight quite quickly, but I still need to lose about 20lbs and I would be satisfied. I would then weigh about 175lbs.

Ι'm around 15-17% right now (super bulked).... My normal is around 12-13% and my target for the current cut is around 8-9% (maybe?) which is something that I (maybe) have reached before by accident..

I understand how in bodybuilding you might not care about your organs (?), but why wouldn't you care about your organs in fitness? Isn't improving organ health one of the most important parts of fitness? For instance, heart adaptations are a major part of cardio.
