Master Blender Nancy Fraley here. Great show Fellas! In addition to being master blender at Still Austin, I was master blender at Wyoming Whiskey for 9 years (2014-2023). Outryder was always my favorite whiskey to both blend and drink at WW. 🥃

I wish you included the MSRPs for the bottles. I agree with a lot of your list, except I was surprised by your pick for Alabama. I love Dettling Cask Strength.
@BarrelHuntersATX2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! We can definitely add MSRPs in the future! That being said, most (if not all) of these bottles can be found for under $100. We didnt want to add super expensive or unattainable whiskeys to this list 🥃

Really great to see an episode like this, helps bring attention to other states we might not think of for whiskey. Loved the selections from Idaho and Iowa, and especially the Jimmy Red from South Carolina, and Blaum Bros. from Illinois, they are great guys doing amazing stuff.

I was worried you were gonna say Bowman for VA. While fantastic juice, it is not sourced/initially distilled in VA. That distillery is owned by the Sazerac company and is distilled at Buffalo Trace before being brought to Bowman for an additional distillation process. It is aged here though. If I had to pick a VA whiskey that's all done in house, I would go with Ragged Branch. Their wheated BiB is fantastic and I believe they double oak a majority of their stuff. Catoctin Creek and Ironclad put out some decent stuff too.

Haven’t had the pleasure of trying the Ragged Branch (great name though). Can’t wait to get back up to NoVA, and make our way over to Jack Rose in DC. One of the best whiskey bars in the country!

This was a great video guys! But, there are so many great small craft distilleries in every state I don't agree that there are so many on your list that are sourced. If I were to make this list, they would definitely have to all be from actual distilleries, no NDPs.
@BarrelHuntersATX2 ай бұрын
Thanks! And fair point. A goal of ours for 2025 is to bring more exposure to some of the smaller craft distilleries. Tried to do that a little here, but definitely a focal point for this coming year. Cheers 🥃!

Surprised that MGP didn’t show up for Indiana, considering that they source something like half the nation's offerings... and no love for Traverse City's cherry barrel finished cask strength bourbon, huh? And I'll have to seek out McCarthy's if you think it's better than anything Westward produces. But Pennsylvania. Dude! Wigle! Liberty Pole! Dad's Hat! And you chose what?!

Mmm... Virginia. If you haven't tried Catoctin Creek's GWAR releases or cask strength ryes, you're missing out. Ok, enough out of me. Props for the Sagamore. Fun video

That’s the tough part about this. There are so many good options, but ultimately we went with our favorites. But it’s awesome to hear about others, though, especially smaller offerings. Cheers 🥃

@@BarrelHuntersATX It's a high malt bourbon from New Holland that is amazing. Their standard offering is already great, and the special releases they do are better than many allocated releases you'll find elsewhere, I got a toasted barrel release while I was in Michigan that is probably the best bottle I have in my collection.

If Ben Holladay is the pick for MO, then I know you guys haven't been around MO much. BH is good, but the best non-legacy (and a brand with longer and more interesting history than Legacy) is hidden in Missouri. The best thing in Missouri is Planter's, bar none. Their rye, which you can only get as a pick or at the distillery, is easily the best Rye whiskey made outside of Maryland... and most would probably prefer Planter's rye since it's not high malt like Maryland style.
@BarrelHuntersATX2 ай бұрын
Great feedback! And you’re right, we havent been all over MO, so BH was our pick for what we have had! Love hearing about other distilleries, though, so keep em coming! Will keep an eye out for Planters next time. Cheers 🥃
