I’m so happy to have found someone who says the same things I see in Wolverine. I love understated, raw stories like this where you see Logan interacting in the “real world” and I love how seamlessly he can be injected into an intergalactic space opera and still feel natural.

Wolverine, in the hands of a skilled writer, is one of the deepest and most entertaining characters in all of comics. The best of him was seen in the 80s to mid 90s and it’s a shame how often he’s wasted in modern books and completely undone and misrepresented by the movies, which is 100% Bryan Singers fault not Hugh Jackmans.

_Ahem_ I actually have read this Wolverine story. I read the singles as they came out in 2003. It was actually shortly before I stopped collecting single issues and started getting into other stuff for a while. Anyway, _yes,_ I completely agree with your sentiments. Not sure if it's my favorite Wolverine story, but I've read _a lot_ of Wolverine comics, and Issue #1, in particular, of this arc always stuck in my mind... the whole human element of it, and the way it was structured with the narration/diary entries of this kind of lost woman addressed to Wolverine, who was just this guy living in the apartment next to her. It's definitely a stand-out. More of a grounded story, and a notch above your typical super hero affair. They even scaled back Wolverine's healing ability to slightly less fantastical levels, because those bullets actually put him down for a while, and he actually had to dig the shells out from under his flesh that had healed over it the next day. Just a dozen or so issues before, he was running/cutting right through an entire army of dudes shooting him full of holes.

@@MaguffinMan Well, damn. I definitely haven't read ALL the Wolverine comics, but always been a fan of the character since the animated series when I was a kid, and I've read quite a few. When I first started reading in the early 2000's, they didn't have anywhere near as many collected editions as they do now. So, collecting the singles, the further I'd try to go into his backlog, there was missing issues and holes galore, and money was limited. What's been really interesting is in the past few years having now read the three Uncanny X-Men omnibuses, -- starting with the very first All New, All Different when Wolverine first joined the team -- and watching the character really evolve from his infancy in kind of real time. I've learned that John Bryne pretty much made Wolverine. The character really wasn't shit until John Bryne got a hold of him. Claremont and Dave Cockrum certainly contributed some things, but Bryne really defined him. Highly recommend reading those if you haven't. Some really good stuff in there. Instocktrades.com has that kind of stuff on the cheap if you're interested.

I am going to have to go get this. I loved Greg Rucka's run on The Punisher. If you love his Wolverine run I would say to check out his Punisher run also. He did 16 issues followed by a second series tie up that had 5 issues to end his Punisher run. The guy can craft amazing stories.

What was that punisher story??? I miiiiight have read that. I had a 6 month period where I dove into punisher comics but had to stop when he became Franken-castle 🤣🤣🤣
@shanevandagriff3794 Жыл бұрын
@@MaguffinMan I stopped reading The Punisher for a while when they did the Franken-Castle story also. I think Rucka's Punisher took place before or a bit after. Greg Rucka's Punisher story was more about ex-Marine Rachel Cole Alves who witnesses her whole entire family get massacred by a gang hit and she becomes the sole survivor. With vengeance on her mind, she sets out to find the gang that killed her soon to be husband and both sides of her family. The Punisher is also on the gang's tale and takes Rachel Cole Alves under his wing. It was basically Rucka showing that only one person could really ever the Punisher. Rucka Portrays The Punisher as a force of nature much like his wolverine tale but also shows a more human side to Frank Castle since he takes Rachel Cole Alves under his wing. I highly recommend it. There are 3 trades to the first part but the final five issues that trade is out of print or very high priced for some reason.

Great explanation of wolverine being short, hairy, and ugly, I've said that for years. How could a 6'4" Australian poster boy portray this 5'3 Canadian accurately? I'm stoked about the recasting. I just hope Armitage gets another chance at being Wolverine but on the big screen.

Haha totally!! Wolverine isn't attractive, he's just a mean asshole that chicks are into lol. Ooooo Armitage is a good call!!! I'm down for that
