I love Nightcrawler and his episodes were awesome. The flirtation between him and Wanda man... I hope we get to see it in the MCU. I know White Vision is out there but I want them to move on from each other. Seeing Magneto doing everything he can to be proven right about humanity. Emma finally realizing she cares for the squad especially Scott. Emma should be added in the MCU Xmen then Jean. 8/10 for me.

@ingonyama702 жыл бұрын
I feel Emma as a character only works really well when contrasted against Jean. Since 2001 or so they've kind of become two sides of the same coin, Betty & Veronica but with psychic powers. Emma even mentored Rachel Grey (alternate-future daughter of Jean, do not worry about it) for a while, and their dynamic was just as interesting. Point is, without Jean Grey to serve as a baseline, Emma Frost loses an important dimension of her character. To quote an amazing story by a very bad person: "Superpowers, a scintillating wit, and the best body money can buy...and I still rate below a corpse." Emma is someone who can do whatever it takes to win, but still lose out to someone who's gifted naturally with everything she had to work for. It's weird to think of the rich, 1%-er White Queen as the underdog, but that's when I think the diamond shines brightest.
@thomaswelbourn552 жыл бұрын

What I liked most is the angles at which the show captured these characters. I also think it's what's most interesting about not starting with the same status quo beginning over and over. Probably the best example is Magneto and his entire family. Putting Magneto in a position where he seemingly has what he wants really makes other characters and himself question his ideologies in a way that's playing out before us and isn't the same hypotheticals over and over again. We see that Eric has his perfect mutant only society, except it's not perfect. There's an entire secret police and he's hiding his criminals and prison. He's forced to realize but won't admit that neither humans or mutants are as homogeneous in behavior and personality as he wants and just kicking humans out doesn't solve the fundamental problems any society has. I also loved his family dynamic. The doted on youngest daughter whose sheltered and protected (and one day just bursts). The beloved oldest daughter who refuses to stay silent (Wanda was SO good here and this show is why Wanda and Night Crawler/Kurt are one of my OTPs). Then the son whose constantly looking for his father's approval and is privy to all the dirty secrets, but gets the least respect. I wanted another season just to see these characters grow so much. Also to see how the politics would play out. This wasn't a case where the Xmen were heroes or hidden away. I will say I had no idea that this was from the creators of evolution, but that explains a LOT why my child mind taught it was a continuation at times from how similar it "felt" (like the atmosphere of the show).

While I still prefer X-men TAS and Evolution. I enjoyed Wolverine and the X-men. I wish Marvel had brought this show back rather than 97 (at least TAS and Evolution got proper endings. WATXM only had one single season with many plots unsolved).
@mandalorianhunter12 жыл бұрын
Wolverine being the leader wasn't a bad decision because he can act the role. Cyclops imo was done okay because grief affects people differently. He lost Jean and he didn't even know if she was having a affair with Wolverine or not, that's truly something that will mess your mind up.
@alexandrefrauches1322 жыл бұрын
@@mandalorianhunter1 But was Logan the only option? As far fans know he is loner, he's impulsive, an anti-hero, not someone anybody would put as leader. Xavier decision felt very forcefull. In any other story this role would be given to someone like Storm or maybe Nightcrawler. I think this detail wouldn't have been much problem, at least for me, if the series showed Logan helping Scott get over his grief, while he, on other hand, helps Logan to be better leader, showing the two rivals putting their difference aside and helping each other in ther personal arcs.
@mandalorianhunter12 жыл бұрын
@@alexandrefrauches132 Well that's the thing, this Wolverine has matured. This has been shown as this is in the same universe as Wolverine vs Hulk, where Logan is shown as that. However, in-between that movie then the explosion at the mansion and after, Logan was able to mature. Hell this is shown when the Silver Samurai episode was shown. Logan was put in charge a few times in the movies so it makes sense. Fans know multiple interpretations of the character from the original so making this one more mature isn't so bad. Logan knew to give Scott his space because getting help from the guy who was into your lover and she was into him doesn't sit so well. Logan knew this and kept his distance. I can understand why you don't like it and I do want that impulsive, loner Logan in the MCU.

The show had some great points. One of the best Dark Phoenix adaptions, great use of Emma Frost by making it closer to her more modern depictions. But honestly...it was very much in line with its title. WOLVERINE (and his x-men side-kicks). The X-men work best as a team/ensemble group. But a few episodes aside, this was very much Wolverines world and the rest of the X-men were just living in it. I get what they were trying to do by appeasing the executives by making it about the golden-cash-cow and flipping the script by making him the reluctant leader....but leader of a team has never been one of Logan's things unless it was black-ops...he's done it it, but imo it was never that good.

fucking love this show, animation, story and acting are all incredible. Charles' storyline was super interesting, the MRD is an awesome antagonist, the brotherhood were intriguing and the show made me LOVE cyclops, he was one of my favourite characters. Really wish more had come of it

I wasn't a fan of Logan as the leader. I especially didn't like how they treated Scott. That said the show was pretty good and I wish it was getting a revival instead of The 90s cartoon.

Phenomenal video. I especially loved how you highlighted the writers prior familiarity with the characters and why they wanted to do something different, as well as how they used the corporate-mandated focus on Wolverine to inject their unique premise with a hesitant protagonist. I feel like the unique premise and abundance of Wolverine leads some to falsely assume that the writers didn't "get" the X-Men, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Thank you for this video on this often overlooked show. I'd love to see more on WaTXM in the future.

Glad I picked this up as a dvd back in the day, I don’t know why but it always felt like one of those shows that lasted about 3 seasons but in reality they only had 1 great one and that’s a shame it couldn’t shine more

Great show and great video. Not this would have saved the show - but I don't know what Kyle, Johnson, and Yost etc were thinking not having Colossus as a featured team member??? The c-tease you in the very first episode in the danger room - where Colossus is training with Kitty Pryde - and then you never see him the rest of the series. Peter Rasputin/Colossus is EASILY the most neglected main mutant in animation - from the 90's series to this one. And I have no idea why?? He's massively popular - and the main team never seems to have enough brute strength heavy-hitters.

For what it’s worth, he’s one of the characters they were planning to fold into the series come S2.

I was sold on this show the second Wolverine opened his mouth and the smooth baritone of a growlier Spike Spiegel graced my ears. God bless Steve Blum

Honestly, it is a shame that wolverine and the X men was never given that season 2. Especially since this is the series that got my favourite x man right. Well, specifically, the Grant Morrison Emma Frost. I think the anime got the teacher side down better but I did not know at the time that she’d become my favourite member of the X men. Another mention goes to Dust as one of my favourite new mutants.

Only just discovered this channel and I love that a large chunk of it is dedicated to the true golden age of Marvel animation, the period of the late 2000's: this show, Spectacular Spider-man, and EMH. I would almost include the Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes in that mix. While it doesn't have nearly the narrative quality of the trio to come after, it at least felt true the vibe of old-school FF being a series of goofy, fun sci-fi stories following a family of heroes who often only become heroes out of scientific necessity. I wouldn't call everything after EMH bad necessarily but it's definitely regressed to a point that they'll never be that good again. While there's something to be said about the culture of recycled nostalgia we're living through I feel like it's important to look back on Marvel multimedia like this and say "Take notice! This is actual GOOD writing for these properties!" It's funny that the reason they stopped shows like this because the serialized nature turned their viewership away and yet now in the streaming age we're drowning in serialized content. Hell the freakin' MCU itself is serialized content! Look I still have a lot of nostalgia for the 90's cartoon that they're apparently bringing back but I would vastly prefer that Wolverine and the X-Men continue instead. Thanks and keep up the great work.

X-men Evolution was a Warner Brothers production while Wolverine and the X-men was a Nickolodeon project. Both products were made while Fox Studios retained theatrical licensing control of the property. Those series were the result of Disney not being able to use X-men in theatrical releases.

Can't even remember how I found out about the show. But it was after it was canceled. Knowing that, I kept my eyes open for the DVDs and while it took a few years, I managed to find the four that make up season one. It's such a shame it was canceled, whenever I recommend the series to anyone I tend to give them a warning that we only have this one incredible season.

This was a fun show to work on. We really went out of our way to make it hit hard on the political mutant story. One of the issues that happened was Disney bought Marvel….

Part of me wants to watch it again because I remember being super impressed by it once I got past the first couple of episodes. (Was really not on board with the strong Wolverine-lead push out of general over-saturation exhaustion.) The only reason I struggle to start it again is that while I actually don't remember specifics, I remember the feeling of extreme disappointment of getting to the end of the first season and learning there was never going to be a season 2. AoA is my favorite X-Men story and this was the closest we ever could have gotten to adapting it. AoA is a story that works best if you're led to it. It needs proper setup for it to have the appropriate emotional & character impact. Like the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix Saga of X-Men season 3, it really was only impactful because the characters had been fleshed out well enough previously. So, I'm forever doubtful they will actually make an AoA adaptation.

This show was gradually drifting away from being yet another Wolverine Saves Everything to what the X-Men is supposed to be; an ensemble cast. A season 2 would've been the best iteration of the team outside of the comics.

I get really tired of media screwing Scott up, he's suppose to be the leader but people have always made him a wimp ever since those live action X-men movies. I can only think of the 90's, 2011 12ep series, and Evolution as the only shows that ever did him any justice. 2:48 bro, the mansion blows up almost as much as the shield helicarrier blows out of the sky . In fact I think even Mystique blows it up in Evolution.

@@kittycatmeowmeow963 1) the Hugh jackman movies started in the year 2000, I saw it in theatres when I was kid. Wolverine & The x-men is a 2011 run this show was made in 2009, Stan Lee had nothing to do with it. 2) the dude even tells you that it was cancelled due to finances in this video, Fox had owned X-men since the 90’s. 3)lay off the crack.
