At 7:42 you might as well use a cello, bass drone or a sustain synth bass type of sound like the hillsong young and free 'real love'. You can also use synth arp in place of piano. By the way love your rig, love your approach. Hoping someday I will be able to procure that type of rig.

Interesting video. There are so many ways to integrate a variety of different sources in a rig with the Montage, which is great and gives many people so many options. Myself however, I keep things simple and use just the Montage 8 only for everything! I am able to do everything (& much more) that this video shows using multiple sources combined with the Montage, via just the Montage only. For example, adding the Pad sound. I can create that same Pad sound (or an even better one) on the Montage and bring it (& other sounds) in slowly via the SuperKnob or one of the 8 Assign Knobs. I can use ARPs, Motion Sequencing &/or my DAW to sequence sounds/PARTs and provide everything else in addition to what I play live on the keys. Regardless if you do it all on the Montage like I do with numerous layers, splits, ARPs, motion sequencing, DAW sequencing, while changing between them via the Scene buttons, all within just 1 single Performance (or in some cases allow the sequencing to change the Scene's automatically), or if you have other sound sources and want to integrate them all with the Montage, this Synthesizer is a 'Monster', and I have yet to find a professionally recorded song that I can't emulate ALL of the sounds, effects, etc. on (except for the vocals of course). The latest song I just finished the programming & sequencing on (via 1 single Performance), I use all 16 PARTs and 7 different Scenes to switch between, and half of the PARTs/sounds are via the AWM2 engine, while the other half are using the FM-X engine. Sometimes it's a flip of a coin on what engine I will use, because in most cases I can emulate the same sound via either of the two engines. Using both engines just helps to double the polyphony I have at my fingertips...

Hi there..and love your sound and style. I'm playing my Kurzweil pc3k 76 for worship at present, albeit on zoom because of the pandemic. I find for worship, there are only a few sounds you need...Piano/string..Rhodes/DX7 electric piano...pad/strings.....and maybe a B3 organ and my Kurzweil covers most of this well. I will say your Montage sounds gorgeous though Bless you brother

Hey Glen! Thanks so much! All glory be to God! 🙏🏼 and you are So Right!! For 90% of worship music all you need is those sounds you mentioned! The other 10% would be for modern worship which uses a lot of electronic sounds but most workstation keyboards also cover those. Blessings!!

Great video! Im on the newer side to using midi controllers but iv been diving in and using mainstage! Iv seen others use the keyboard sound from their main “piano” for that sound they want and add others through the program, im curious if that is only an ableton ability? By the time i do this i will more than likely be using ableton because my ability to create is a little restricted on mainstage but figured id ask anyway haha

Glad you enjoyed it brotha! I would say that it really depends on what style of worship you are playing... If you do modern contemporary worship, i would recommend to buy something similar to what I have, which is a laptop that runs ableton or MainStage and merge both the sounds from your keyboard and also the digital sounds. That would really take your sound to the next level. Blessings!

Hello If you're fairly new to playing keyboard I wouldn't advise you to spend your money on gear right now. Just have a regular keyboard with an okay piano sound and work on improving your skill. If you get a bunch of fancy gear/sound now/soon you could get distracted by the fancy sound (production) and stop striving to improve. A psr s975 is a great keyboard already and has really good voices, you can do a lot with it already, almost everything that can be done in this video.

Sounds to me that you don't need the Montage as long as you sample from keyscape and ravenscroft... Your thoughts....
@ChurchConvos
@ChurchConvos 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ed! Yes you are right! You technically don’t need the montage in this setup and can make sue with a midi keyboard to control the plugins. HOWEVER.... software (while it sounds amazing) is always relying on your computer and it’s no secret that computers and DAWs can fail or have malfunctions... the worst thing would be if this happens LIVE while you are playing.. for this reason I would recommend having a SOLID keyboard that could take over in case anything happened. If my pastor ever asks me (spontaneously) to come up and play something during service, I would play the montage and not plugins, just because I know that it will never fail me. But if you have both, like I have in my setup then you get an incredibly diverse and powerful sound! 👍🏼

Hi Susannah! You are a GREAT Fiance if you are planning to buy your Future Husband a MONTAGE 8!! :D Because I don't know where you live, I wouldn't be able to tell you about any "local" place where you can get a second hand Montage for a cheaper price... BUT I can tell you of a few online places to check out. When it comes to used instruments I would always FIRST check Reverb.com. I have personally bought gear and also sold some music gear on that website and they are great! The second place I would check is sweetwater. Sweetwater normally sells NEW music gear but sometimes they have "floor models" or "Used Models" for a little cheaper. And finally I would check, Craigslist! Craigslist is a great place to find used things from people that are selling "locally" or near you. Hope this helped a little bit and thank you for watching the video :D

I own a CP88 and montage 8, I’m new to playing taking lessons to learn, I like Yamaha but wonder why there are no professional artist that use either the CP88 or the montage and it seems only churches use them, am I wrong? And why do churches use them so much?
@ChurchConvos
@ChurchConvos 3 жыл бұрын
Thats pretty cool that you are LEARNING to play on a montage 8 lol But to answer your question, I have seen quite a few non christian musicians use the Montage on stage, so I don't think its just churches. However, I asume the montage is used in studios more than anything. I say that because of how powerful the montage is and I can totally see it being used in Pro Studios. Honestly the Montage is COMPLETE OVERKILL for a church as you will probably never use more than 20% of what it is capable to do. But normally, when the PRO christian artist use a specific keyboard (Montage, Nord, Korg, etc...) every church tends to buy then because they are after the same sound they heard at the concert. Hope this answers your question.

I think the Behringer X Air 18 for a keyboard rig is overkill. You could achieve this with an analog mixer that has actual knobs and faders for fast and easy mixing. and then send a stereo out to the FOH
@ChurchConvos
@ChurchConvos 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree with you! The X Air 18 is definitely overkill for a keys rig and you can totally do this with a regular analog mixer. HOWEVER.. in my experience, there isn't any analog mixer for this price with ALL the features that the XAir 18 comes with and with the quality of sound it produces... Most small analogs are pretty week and the bigger they get the more room they take up. Another huge plus for me is that the XAir 18 is Rack Mountable which is HUGE for me because, I can take it anywhere VERY easily by just unplugging one cable and ALSO I use the back of my Rack to mount my wireless in ear monitor receiver. But at the end of the day I would just go with what works best with each individual set up and budget of course. This is just my current set up I have come up with after 18 plus years of playing keys and I love it thus far! :D If I change anything in the future, I will definitely do an update video. Blessings!

Surprised you aren’t using omnisphere.

Omnisphere is AWESOME! I don’t run it in my setup because it is sooo HEAVY on the CPU. But if I were just playing pads I would totally have omnisphere on my setup!
