OMG, I love ZF's cheerful '"Iiiiha" at the beginning. In my city in Poland there is only one bus with ZF and it sound pretty good, I hope the bus will stay long. I'm so jealous of English/Ireland buses' ZF

TheFox FanYay I absolutely love some of the ZF’s that you can find in Ireland, they’re amazing! This bus in particular lives in the UK now, I really miss it :-(

Great video.☺️ I’m not surprised, it’s an ALX400. This is why the ALX400’s are my most favourite buses ever especially the Trident versions.☺️

7:04 It really is. I grew up on B7s and then they got withdrawn on my local route so early - I've missed them ever since and would do literally anything to catch a good ZF B7. How loud the ZF is doesn't bother me so much, but I just love how they sound in general, in comparison to Voiths, and I love the shifts too. Very informative, this is too. I bet it's a pain to edit this in lol but it teaches me about the gear shifts. One thing I noticed with ZF gearboxes is that they have like a "half-gear" in the middle of gear 1. Allisons have it in Gear 2 and Voith has none. Would that "half-gear" concept be Gear 1 when it's unlocked and then locked? This comment is quite a lot for my first time commenting on this channel lol but it would be great to know about all this and I've really enjoyed watching
@ThePlymouthRoadSurfer6 жыл бұрын
LondonBabyRosalinaFan82*•. I’m glad you liked it! :-) yeah the “locked” “unlocked” feature is the half gears, also known as the torque converter slipping and locking, its in nearly all my videos now :-)
@BabyRosieFan826 жыл бұрын
TheIrish RoadSurfer Yeah, adding that into a video would take me a week to make a single one. lol But hey, it taught me something new. :) I've heard of the term "torque converter" before. Torque is probably one of the most important things and yet it's the one word that throws me off because I know so little about it. Eventually my reign of lazyness will end and I'll sit down and stare at a webpage for 30 minutes. :P It really is interesting stuff though.

I work for Dualway CitySightSeeing/BigBus we have AV227 and 228 and their both the same as this must be a certain batch they are the most powerful of all the AV’s we have.228 has so much torque you can’t help but keep wanting to use it
@ThePlymouthRoadSurfer5 жыл бұрын
John McCoy I hope you’re enjoying driving them! They will always be my absolute favourite buses Dublin ever had. And I couldn’t agree with you more on their torque! They really do go!
@johnmccoy12735 жыл бұрын
TheIrish RoadSurfer I love driving them great busses it depends what way over the years how gearbox was refurbed and calibrated after but most of them deliver a lot of torque and sail up hills
@ThePlymouthRoadSurfer5 жыл бұрын
John McCoy Yeah that’s right! I personally prefer the 5 speed ZF Ecomat gearboxes that those AV’s have, they’re perfectly tuned and they’re gearing isn’t too tall (like the 2000 reg AV’s which lacked acceleration due to their 4 speed ZF’s) or too short (like the 2006 AX’s due to their very short geared 6 speed ZF’s), they’re just right!

TheIrish RoadSurfer This is why I love independent operators. They get the old machines that major operators don't want, and take extremely good care of them and practically make them live on!

Hey, could you please explain to me what locked and unlocked means? This may be the answer to the question Ive been looking for, like where driver accelerates in first gear from a stop, and just before it changes into second gear it’s almost like it downshifts (although it’s in first) and you get a quick burst of power shortly before the bus shifts into second
@ThePlymouthRoadSurfer6 жыл бұрын
Hey Jack, I never realised you commented on my video too! Yeah so as I explained in BusThrash’s video (his B10BLE kickdown video) that little pause in first gear you hear is a torque converter lock-up, it’s the same as pulling the clutch pedal up in your car so that the engine side of the clutch will match the wheel side of the clutch. Sometimes you’ll hear the lockup in 2nd or even 3rd gear too! So all my videos show the viewer the status of the gearbox (what gear the bus is in) and what the torque converter is doing (whether its slipped, or locked). You’ll notice in this video that you can hear the little pause whilst the torque conveter goes from “unlocked” to “locked”. Back then when I edited this video I used the term “unlocked” instead of “slipped” but I find the word “slipped” better as its exactly what the torque converter is doing, slipping! But now you’ll notice in my later videos that I used a padlock symbol for the torque converter instead, much more tidy looking! God I must get back to some editing I miss it! Thanks for your comment mate it’s nice to see people still wanting to learn about buses :-)
@jackturner9906 жыл бұрын
TheIrish RoadSurfer oh of course!!!! I could not find the answer anywhere and you’ve answered it. So yeah it’s like in a manual car if you set off with the clutch slipping up until a high ish rpm and then releasing it creating a direct connection from the engine to the wheels rather than having the engine spin somewhat independently
@ThePlymouthRoadSurfer6 жыл бұрын
Yeah you’ve got it mate, you’ll find that sometimes the bus will shift into 2nd without a torque converter lock-up and the lock-up will just happen in 2nd, people ask “why does it do that?” It’s just the gearbox calculates when to make the torque converter lock-up at the most efficient time and sometimes locking up in 1st is pointless, especially when you’re really gently accelerating,a good example of this is at 7:50 in this video that you’re commenting on, so you can see that the driver is setting off gently, and the gearbox goes from 1st into 2nd slipped, THEN locks up, pretty cool huh?

John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
