ZF 5HP 502C WITHOUT COVER | FULL KICKDOWNS | ECOMAT SPECIAL

Today I come with a special video to celebrate that we reached 300 subscribers - thank you so much for following my channel, I hope all of you will enjoy this little surprise! This video contains lots and lots of full kickdowns, and I recorded it directly above the gearbox - no cover at all, so nothing blocks the beautiful sounds :)
This gearbox might be familiar: it came to Budapest as a part of LYH-107 ( • Mercedes-Benz O530 Cit... ), a spanish-bulit Citaro from 2000, and last year it has been transplanted to LYH-114 ( • Mercedes-Benz O530 Cit... ), a fifteen year old ex-VGF Citaro with an Euro 3 OM906LA engine.
There’s nothing more to write about the bus or the kickdowns, I think the video speaks for itself :)
PS: Sorry for the shaking, this was a bumpy ride!

What engine is in this? Is it the OM926? I know the box is the star of the show but that engine sounds mean when it's at full speed.

@@marcusw.525 It's an OM906LA, the Euro 3 version of it. You're absolutely right, these sound amazing as well - I like the Euro 2 variant the most, but all Mercedes engines are great.

Of course I can, I had the opportunity thanks to a good friend and a very helpful driver who was his acquaintance, and let us open the gearbox hatch while driving to the depot.

simple orientation aid: when 4hp is indicated, it is a four-speed transmission, when 5hp, then five-speed and when 6hp, then six-speed ☺️

Do you know why when buses are idleing that have a zf gearbox, that it starts making a sound and the negine revs up and the zf makes a sound? it happened at 0:19 and stopped at 0:26.

Sure, that's because of the NBS function. It's called Neutral bei Stillstand in german (~Neutral bus stop), which means that the gearbox puts itself in neutral while the bus stands still, even if the gear selector is in D (or any other gear, like 1, 2, 3, R). This function has been used in ZF gearboxes from the early '90s, and has an easily recognisable sound in the Ecomat series (however there are a few exceptions, where the function has been disabled and no longer works).

@@zf_ecomat I had a BMW 335d with a ZF transmission and it had the same feature. You put it in drive and hold on the brake but slightly release brake and you could feel the drive take up.
