I think the decline is reflective of the overall decline in music. Hiphop, like other genres, has seen its peak already so now the options are hold your spot or go on the decline and with a lack of good mainstream talent to push hiphop in a better direction hiphop is now on a full decline rather than holding its spot. Artists aren’t making money from music and only a few artists are sustaining themselves by touring and merch sales, it’s why they’re whoring themselves out any way they can and now the Hiphop Awards are reflective of how little money is being made overall in music. You can argue that the decline of the Hiphop Awards is also reflective of hiphop possibly returning to another form of its roots as being a niche genre catering to a handful of people. Much like other genres, I don’t see hiphop having too bright of a future. I mean, what does it say about the genre when the artists skip the awards and the only people in attendance, regardless of the venue, are “influencers” or influencer types? Hiphop is current going down the drain like Rock did and there’s no logical reason for BET to pour truck loads of cash into an award show that doesn’t yield positive returns.

I'll explain it whilst I agree with Joe. As a former Events Manager. Their saving budget & keeping it tight because lets be honest. In today's world, BET is irrelevant because nobody is watching Television anymore due to the fact that the Internet has taken over which has become the new TV. Even though it was also streaming online they could have focused on partnering with Online Streaming companies & social media brands which would have got their ratings more up to generate funds for the next years Awards & so on. As Joe said, its true most Award ceremony's are just using brands to finance their other businesses behind the scenes.

On top of the fact that awards shows have fallen off over the past 10 years .... BET in specific isn't responsible for the careers of any of the artists we know to be current ..... they purchase content from production houses, and they only have relationships wt artists from the 106 & Park and back .... but someone like Glorilla or Lil Baby probably never been on BET ... they owe their success to social media .... AND BET hasn't really upgraded its approach to content
