Having upgraded my Betstco FH-EFG125 with a set of 1.5 lb hammers I decided it was time to put it to the real test, 2' tall Bahai grass, blackberry thicket , thorny ivy vines and 2" plus diameter trees that I wanted mulched. Bottom line, the mower cuts far better with this setup than with the original 1 lb hammers that came on it. These heavier hammers don't wrap the grass around them as they used to, they don't break nearly as often and they will handle much larger and denser brush than the original hammers ever did. I've been field testing this on multiple jobs for the last month and it has proven to be an excellent upgrade.

Great video. I didn't know a flail mower could do that.

I just ordered one today. If I were just cutting grass I would want a mower with Y blades, but I'll be clearing brush. I'll use the hammer blades. I have a 26HP tractor, but 19HP at PTO, so I don't know if I would even be able to upgrade to heavier hammers later. But for my use I can always cut at the highest setting and then go back again later at a lower one to mulch it up. Good video!

Great video, thanks! We also have a Branson 2515H and are looking for a flail mower, so this is very helpful. I think we're going to go for the heavy duty version of this mower, the FH-EFGC125 from the get-go, which comes with 27 oz (1.7 pound) hammers standard.

I think that heavy duty mower would be a great choice. I had a smaller tractor when I bought this one so just decided to keep it for this larger tractor. I'm pretty sure I"m going to buy the heavy duty mower in a wider model this spring. Thanks for watching and thanks for replying!

💥 Always fun to watch a flail mower destroy brush. Where did you find the larger hammers at? Might have to get a set. Thanks! *Keep on tractoring!*

Hi Jon! I agree, love to watch a flail do it's thing! My customers really like it because if cuts way down on the amount of brush left to burn after a sizeable underbrush clearing. I used the Titan Attachments 3.5" wide hammers from Amazon. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PBXFVJP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I secured them on with some 1/2-13 x 3-1/4 Hex Head Bolt UNC Grade 8 bolts and Nylok nuts. So far, these hammers are doing a fantastic job!

Hello again, been a while! We have used the heavy duty flail mower for the past year and been pretty happy with it, once I figured out how to properly set it up to not burn up the belts... :) I have some questions, though.Should I set the tractor engine RPM at the 'PTO 1st' mark (about 2600 RPM) or 'PTO 2nd" mark (about 1750 RPM) on the tachometer, when mowing? Which engine speed produces the proper RPMs at the PTO shaft? Where do you set your engine speed when flail mowing?

So your video is now a year old, how did the larger hammers hold up. I run the EFG135. The factory hammers were ok, ordered a replacement set from Titan but I keep braking hammers. At $14.ea I'm looking for a better option. I can't find the hammers you put on from Amazon but Nova Tractor sells them. Thinking about ordering a set. Did you have to do any more balancing? Thanks

I just got the same one for christmas, just wondering how the 2 belt held up, slipping or burning?

Congratulations! That mower is really a very good mower. I use it on brush that is probably heavier than the design was intended and I've cleared at least 30 acres of underbrush and heavy opasture with the last year. I have had some issues with the 2 belt setup slipping....however....NOT with these heavier hammers. The light weight hammers tend to get bound up in heavy Bahia grass and that will cause them to slip. So far, and I've been mowing the same material in the same pasture, I have not experienced a belt slip with the heavier hammers in at least 10 hours of usage. I think the extra momentum of the heavier hammers is the key here. That said....in all cases, 4 belts would be better than 3 and 3 would be better than 2. I have recently added a slipper clutch to my pto and I am expecting that to help considerably. One last note, adding a 3 belt pulley setup should not be a problem if it proves necessary in the future. I've found the pulleys on the internet from various suppliers. Thanks so much for watching, I truly hope it helps! IF you have any questions, just contact me via FB Voss Tractor Services.

hey I do have a question for you. I watched tons of videos, and all of yours, LOL while looking for a flail mower. I did order and buy the Betstco 60" heavy duty model. It came with 27 oz hammers on it. So I mowed two of the places we have that had gotten overgrown terribly before we acquired them, on the third spot, even though I had the bucket pretty close to the ground and had walked it (yes with snake boots on) I hit a chuck of concrete and you guessed it, broke one of the hammers. I do know that they are 27 oz, because I took off the broken one, and a good one a few stations over and weighed it. So my question is, in looking at your video, you said these are 'pound and a half' so they weigh 24 oz? I don't what to have to replace the whole set, but the guy I talked to at Betstco said they were out of stock, 3 oz is too much of a difference to be out of balance. It's weird too because all the other dimensions are exactly the same. Going to wait until you answer before I order, hope you see this soon, thanks, and thanks for the videos

Hey, thanks so much for watching my videos. I've got a lot more in the editing process and hope to get them up soon, but tractor work has to come first. It's the butter for my bread. :) I weighed one of my '1.5lb' hammers and your are correct, they do in fact weight 28oz. Truth is, I've found some variance by one or two ounces on many of these hammers of either kind. Due to the way the hammers are staggered around the drum, I don't feel that a slight difference is going to cause much upset in the balance. On numerous occasions I have lost an entire hammer and kept mowing for several hours before I realized it was vibrating a bit. Here is a link to the hammers I bought and they are from Titan Attachmnents. Best of luck with your flail! www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PBXFVJP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

That's awesome, thank you so much! I actually have an account with titan from ordering a wood chipper from them, and I have that capital one app that looks for discount codes and there is one that applies to these. I will get the 5 pack ordered so I have some spares. The one that broke was all the way on the edge, I knew instantly it was missing

I had a betstco, its Chinese junk. spend the extra money and get a good brand. John Deere, land pride, etc....

That 'junkie' betstco has made me at least 3 times what it cost this year alone. I'm sure there are better flails out there but I also know for certain that many of the so called 'good brand names' that you mention are actually made in China also. They are speced higher than the Betstco and backed by larger American companies which can be a help both with quality and if you need warranty work. So far, I've not had anything go wrong with this mower and it is headed for it's 3rd year of steady usage.

You don't get a lot more quality for all the extra money you spend for an American brand. John Deer must pay about $1000 a quart for their green paint.

I REALLY WISH Americans would wake up to the threat we face from China and STOP supporting their industries. Ask; where is it manufactured? If it comes from China, insist that the company importing the product use another source or buy your equipment elsewhere. Italy makes some great flail mowing equipment and better yet, move the darn factory to America!
