Hi Cullen, from California hear. Wow , love the new grill. Damm, making me hungry. Aren’t you glad the old grill didn’t work out? Watch natural gas appliances on boats. Now, you can have some B.B.Q. ‘S with friends and family. On the West Coast , liveaboards are becoming increasingly popular. Average cost for 1 room with kitchen privileges & private bath runs $1000-$1200 per month. The Yacht business is picking up. If your boat is paid off, average cost for slip rent and utilities about $1000 per month. I pay $8.00 per linear foot for 37’ slip without live aboard option.

Have been enjoying your videos on the boat for a while now. To assist in the burger cooking fully through and not getting a burned exterior, make a dimple in the middle of the burger so it is thinner than the exterior. The meat exposed to direct heat causes the edges of the patty to shrink, cinching the hamburger like a belt, compressing its interior up and out which is why it looks puffy like that. Just use your thumb to create the dimple in the middle.

I am still using my 10 year old Magma grill. I have been using it almost daily for the past three years since I retired. If that grill is still good in 5 years please post and update.
@svbarryduckworth6282 жыл бұрын
Magma uses the most expensive grades of stainless steel which last nearly forever in the marine salt environment even with the extreme heat found inside a grill. It's not cheap though, because of that and also magma can charge whatever they want because of their reputation and the reality of the marine marketplace. You can find a 20 or more year old magma grill at a garage sale that has been on the rail of a saltwater boat that whole time and about all you will need to replace is the burner and be good to go again. This is how we got ours. The burner was $20 online on sale for a genuine Magma replacement. Don't buy at WestMarine as it will be twice that. I doubt these "better" grills will hold up like this at these prices since there is no way they can br using such good material at those prices. Most are made of genuine Chinesium. They probably do grill a little better and don't rattle like the magmas though. IMHO The Magma kettle grill seems to be a better design than the larger rectangular one and doesn't rattle like that. Defender often has sales and blemish/scratch and dent deals on the Magma kettle grills for well under $200.

Wasn't the propane or the regulator causing excess heat. It was hot due to the grease from the burger hitting the "flavor maker" panels underneath the meat and then igniting. If you were cooking something non greasy or had the grill been empty, the temp would have been "normal". I suggest thinner meat patties so that it cooks through quicker or cooking just a couple at a time so that you can move the meat around when the grease ignites. Also, use the top rack strategically.
@CullenCraft3 жыл бұрын
The grill gets up to 500 on its own with a new propane canister. Even when it was brand new and sparkly with no food on it.

Cullen Craft you were smart and seasoned it with some nice fat burgers. Good first layer of flavor for that grill. 😂. Also made me start looking at ordering one. Problem with my boat is the versatrack system. I’m gonna have to mod an adapter to attach the grill to because I don’t have rails. I’ve already been turning gears in my brain how to easily make an adapter to work with my versatrack rails on my V-20 targa fishing boat. You need better grill tools, first of all. You can put the buns on the top rack to warm them up while the burgers cook. The grill will be great in the summer so you don't heat up the cabin cooking in the oven.

Yes, the adjustment screw is hidden underneath the label on the regulator and not mentioned in any of the docs, but that did help solve the problem.

A couple of things - TBH, I am leary of the clamp gooching up my railing. I would add a down-support at an angle to the deck or a vertical railing member to support that grill. 2) Where does the grease go. What's the report after a few seasons of use - how long did it last? Any way you slice it, a grill is a filthy beast after a while.

I had this grill on my last boat. Was excellent! Definitely burns hotter than a home/ full size, but once you figure out it's personality it's great. (They ALL burn hot!). Only issue I had was that the stainless became hazy in and orange-y/stained from heat-way and I could not get it off. Tried every KZbin method. Nothing. Still looked great just had this haze in places, which didn't affect performance. Definitely take the propane off and use care when screwing it on and off. The regulator is a weak point and will become rattle-y if abused. I replaced mine (after I tried to adjust the rattle and dropped it in the sea). I just ordered a Large Dickinson BBQ for my new boat, but only because it comes recommended and the Kuuma 160 is sold out everywhere locally!
@CullenCraft3 жыл бұрын
Awesome. Yeah I've learned theres a hidden adustment screw on the regulator underneath the sticker. That helped a little, but mostly I've learned how to cook well with higher heat.

Magma uses super high quality stainless steel that just lasts nearly forever. I wonder if these competitors cheap out on the stainless. If you are on saltwater you'll know in a few years. Is that mount made of aluminum? It looks like it might be. Aluminum and stainless steel absolutely don't get along when touching in a saltwater environment. Aluminum in contact with stainless steel will suffer galvanic corrosion
