I was able to meet Betty when I was a young teenager in the mid-60s. I got her autograph and a sweet smile I'll never forget.

Great compilation Barry and Roger - brought it all back vividly to me too! A truly superb trouper who accurately hit the mark in every genre she mastered, sometimes an unlucky loser, but always absolutely her quite unique self and right on top of her task. And - she was one of the few great performers to find success on stage right up to her departure from her glitzy world - at 86!! A pretty commanding perormance in any language!!

god bless you for this tribute what an incredible compassionate struggle for this young talented girl who sacrificed so much for her alcoholic mom once this truly was a great country where selfless people like betty could succeed

Thank You for posting the story on Betty. I only recently learned about her and I don't think it was just coincidence. I related to her struggles with addiction and like her I sought spiritual guidance; changed my whole life. She's an example of what happens to many lives; no matter who you are. But she also turned her life around as a result of a priest that came into her life, when she was at her lowest point. God Bless, Roco43.

There was alcoholism in Betty’s family. Her mother suffered with it as well as Betty. Alcoholism is a family disease that destroys relationships. Betty’s daughters could have benefitted from professional counseling and self-help groups like Al-Anon. We must forgive the behavior of our loved ones who are under the influence. This is not for the benefit of the offenders,; they don’t deserve it, but we deserve peace.

She said in an interview with Phil Donahue (? Think that's the guys name) that she left school at 9 but clearly she did go to highschool. Maybe she left at 9 briefly then went back, maybe she honestly couldn't remember bc of the effect of her addiction which she possibly inherited genetically from her mother.

I really enjoyed Ber Betty's story and this video. I have become a fan of Betty's since seeing her in Annie Get Your Gun." I wonder if she really was treated badly by her Annie co-stars as some have said. Personally, I believe her "insecurities" came from er father leaving two years after she was born. He didn't leave when her sister, Marion was born, only after Betty came along! Personally, I loved her as Annie and think she did a great job as Annie Oakley!

Her 3 daughters were ungrateful so called human beings. They are not the judge of their Mother only God is, She could have aborted them 3 numbnuts but she did not. God has said who do you honor your parents once a Famous Man was asked a question. Who do you honor first @the man said your mother, then he asked then who do you honor 2nd the man said your Mother, then the Man said who do you honor 3rd the Man said your mother, then he said who do you honor 4th then the Man said your Father. So you see Your Mother holds a High place in GODs Eye. So no matter what your Mother does in Life it is not your place to condemn her, you should honor Her the woman that gave your spoiled ungrateful self LIFE. MARIA IS MY NAME.
