The Beverly Hillbillies is an American television sitcom that aired on CBS from 1962 to 1971. The series featured an ensemble cast, including Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Donna Douglas, and Max Baer Jr., portraying the Clampetts-a destitute, rural family from Missouri’s Ozark Mountains who relocate to the luxurious neighborhood of Beverly Hills, California, after discovering oil on their property. Created by Paul Henning and produced by Filmways, the show became a major success. It later inspired two other Henning-associated CBS series: Petticoat Junction and its spin-off Green Acres, which flipped The Beverly Hillbillies’s rags-to-riches, country-to-city premise.
