My biblical research interest, since 1990, is in identifying the pre-biblical origins of the Bible, in particular, the pre-biblical origins of the Garden of Eden story. I came to discover that Sir Henry Creswicke Rawlinson (1810-1895) of Britain, who succeeded in translating Babylonian cuneiform by 1857, had shocked the Christian World in 1858 by averring that Eden's Serpent was a recasting of the Babylonian god called Ea (his Hea or Hoa) of ancient Eridu in ancient Sumer, and that Ea was the creator of Mankind in Babylonian myths. He was also the God of Wisdom for the Babylonians. In other words, EDEN'S Serpent, in pre-biblical Babylonian myths was man's Creator. This announcement to the Christian World occurred in a book authored by his brother, titled _A History of Herodotus,_ issued in 4 volumes, in London, England. Not many today (2020) are aware of all this, even in the Academic Community of professional PhD scholars. My research agrees with Rawlinson. I came to understand that Genesis' Garden of Eden account is actually what we would call today, an ANTI-THESIS it was written, in response to, and in refutation of, an earlier Babylonian THESIS about Mankind's origins, why he was created, where, when and by whom, and why Mankind was later nearly annihilated in a global flood. I have written two books on all this, self-published in 2010, and available at Amazon.com, (1) Eden's Serpent: Its Mesopotamian Origins and (2) The Garden of EDen Myth: Its Pre-biblical Origin in Mesopotamian Myths. WHY THIS ANTI-THESIS? The author of Genesis objected to the Babylonian explanation for why man is a sinner! The Babylonians understood man was a sinner because he was made in the image of sinner-gods! Gods, who before man was created, indulged in lies, oath-breaking, murders, rapes, homosexual sex, sex with beasts, incest with mothers, sisters, daughters and grand-daughters, who held man in contempt. The gods had created man to be a gardening slave in their city gardens in the midst of EDIN, a Sumerian term for uncultivated land, translated into English variously as "DESERT," "WILDERNESS," "THE WILD," "STEPPE." The gods are portrayed in early myths as having bodies of flesh and blood, they murder each other and wind up in the underworld called EDIN. Having fleshly bodies the gods can experience hunger and die of starvation if having no food to eat, so they create for themselves fruit-tree gardens in the EDIN. Tiring of the back-breaking labor in maintaining their gardens they create man of EDIN'S clay. Man will care for the gods' gardens in the EDIN, and present to the gods the produce to eat, so that the gods do not die of starvation. Man's purpose in life, then, is to feed the gods, so that the gods don't die of starvation! This is not commonly known information for most Christians. The gods are fed two meals daily, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. In the Bible God is fed two meals daily, morning and afternoon by the Priests at the Temple of Solomon. If God is immortal and cannot die, why should he need two daily meals? It makes no sense! Apparently the Hebrews never questioned why their God needed to be feed daily two meals, like a Mesopotamian god. Basic Premise: The Bible stories freely borrowed from the pagan traditions and stories. A plagiarism of pagan practices and is praxis in procedure. Note. A lot of why she alluded to is the changes- both in addition and omisión from the original text that were made by men in power, through the ages. The Genesis stories goes way back before the existence of mesopotamia and written language. These ancient cultures were oral cultures until they writing was created. 1. Written language in Mesopotamia is old, really old. They developed cuneiform long before Israel existed, and its uses spread throughout the whole Middle East that even the Egyptians in 1300 BC used it for diplomatic correspondence with their neighbors. 2. Stories can be given from generation to generation orally, but that changes the stories in characteristic ways that anthropology has studied. That's the idea behind form criticism of the bible to go beyond and before the historic-critical study of a text.

@@simplearthling- cuneiform was not created by 1300 BC but had spread by this time and was used by entities to write correspondence, even if the two entities didn't use cuneiform in their domestic writings. You could compare it to the use of English as the global second language that is used by a Chinese and an African merchant to negotiate. It had been developed in Mesopotamia from a pictographic writing style (3400 BC) into an abstract writing style by 2600 BC. You could find more on Wikipedia. According to biblical chronology, Moses lived in Egypt around 1400 BC. . . . The important question is: when were the biblical stories in the Pentateuch written down for the first time? Archeology has not found writing in Israel before the 8. century BC. Granted, most writing could have happened on papyri, but why wouldn't writing "spill over" to ceramic inscriptions for trade and administration, like it did in the 8. century BC? Therefore, we should assume that biblical stories were written down in Israel in the 8. century BC or later. . . . You seem to assume an error-free copying of stories from 1400 BC to 800 BC by ORAL tradition. Even when the bible had been written down, copy errors happened between different manuscripts. Oral tradition would mean many more transmission errors. Additionally, oral traditions adjust their stories to the expectations and capacities of their audiences, which changes the stories over time in characteristic ways, which is found in anthropological studies. . . . The "economic" thing to do, as we do in science, is instead to assume that the stories of the creation, the great flood, and the tower of Babylon were developed during the Babylonian Exile in the 6. century when the Jewish people in exile had the means (reading the stories in Babylon and writing their own version) and the motivation to do so (to express their faith in God within the framework of the surrounding dominating culture of Babylon). @@happybergner9832 - Yes, and? Hebrew hadn't been a spoken language for centuries by the time of Paul. Translations were needed for those who hadn't studied Hebrew, especially into Aramaic and Greek. The preserved letters by Paul were written in Greek, and for bible quotes Paul used the common Greek translation of the bible at that time. . . . Questions we could ask are if Paul took the quotes out of context and if his way of quoting was extraordinary at this time. My answer to the first question is Yes and to the second question is No. There were many Jews who wanted to see an allegorical or metaphorical sense behind the bible text, and there was no historical-critical method yet. Different Jewish groups used different interpretations, may they be Essenes, Sadducees, Christians, Pharisees, or one of the many other smaller groups of Jews that practiced their faith before 70CE. The later Rabbinical Jews added their own interpretation and codified it in Mishnah and Talmud.

There was a break between Isaiah 39 & 40. Chapters Forty through 66 were written by an anonymous author, not the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah was dead by then. Therefore, chapter 53 that evangelical Christians use as a prophetic text concerning the Messiah was added on by someone else much later. Fascinating.

BB then adds that the implication of this is that this anonymous "2nd Isaiah" wrote the words that are being attributed to the singular Isaiah by some evangelicals. Per Cynthia, in the time stamps I gave (specifically @ 32:22), the second Isaiah was likely written in the 6th century B.C. What Baptist Boy didn't say is that this would explicitly impact the prophecy in any way. Traditionally the passage is considered to be referring to the nation of Israel as a whole, though there is some debate as to whether it could be referring to Jeremiah who was depicted as a model for the nation as a whole - which also immediately follows the book of Isaiah. Scholar's tend to agree that the gospels were written based on the oral tradition. The writer of Mark, the earliest written gospel (written around 66-74 A.D.), had access to Isaiah as it is mentioned in Mark 1:3 to validate John the Baptist. Yet Mark has no account of Jesus' birth because that connection hadn't made it into the oral tradition yet. As that oral tradition expanded and changed it was added to bolster the accounts in Acts, Luke and John who also had access to the Torah, and thus Isaiah, in between 80-90 A.D. (possibly as late as 110 A.D.) and likely worked the phrasing from Isaiah into the accounts of Jesus in order to bolster their account's credibility, if the oral tradition had not already done so in that additional 10-20 years given that the oral traditions that led to Mark had referenced people to Isaiah already.

It's quite often the other way around. Many historical events described in the Bible are found later in other stories, e.g. the global flood as described in Genesis. The timeline used by most scholars is way off, hence the false claim of plagiarism. Using a false time-line of thousands of years longer than actual history, allows these professors to make their claim that other writings were plagiarized by the Bible writers. This video just demonstrates the overall desperate attempt to undermine the authority of God's word.

I think someone once said something similar, "Hath God said...?" It's nice to imagine, what if the Book of Isaiah was written by two different people but that's conjecture. Some interesting observations. I would also factor in the breath of the biblical concept of delegated agency. For example, Elijah is instructed by Yahweh to anoint Hazael as king of Syria, Jehu as king of Israel, and Elisha as Elijah's pophetic successor (1Kgs 19:15-16). Yet Elijah fulfills his mission by personally anointing only Elisha. Elisha in turn anoints Hazael (2 Kgs 8:13); moreover, Elisha sends a servant to anoint Jehu (2 Kgs 9:1-3), an action twice removed from Elijah himself. There are other examples in OT and NT. So, it is not altogether suprising that a prophetic scribe in Isaiah's tradition (possibly two of them, even) continued Isaiah's message.

I invite you to read the lost book of Enki by Zachary Sitchen, and then judge for yourself. There is a reading on KZbin that is very well done. Even if you dont agree with it or it impinges on your religious beliefs, which is seems to do to some people, it is a very interesting story. Its correlations to the old testament are amazing. And if you know anything about the world, "history, mythology, archeology, anthropology, astrology, and ancient civilization" you will see sitchens research puts it all together and takes it back to its roots and shows and tells the how and why for pretty much everything under the sun. Read it or listen to it on KZbin it won't take long, then look around and you will see all the overwhelming evidence that its true.

I read the Bible, cover to cover, in 1968. I've since read it completely about 9 times. In addition I read some of it every day, because it's my favourite book. This morning, for example, I read the story of Samson in the book of Judges chapters 13 to 16. His mother was visited by the Angel of the Lord ! Sounds familiar ? (Judges 13:3)

The definition of plagiarism actually emphasizes the acknowledgement for the copying and giving credits to the original authors, which bible does not fulfill at all, instead, Christians claim their bible is original. Thousands of years ago before Torah and New Testament were written, supernatural concepts like supreme God, heaven, hell, angels, demons, man's spirit soul were already laid in the context of preceding religions like Zoroastrianism and Hinduism. Simple and clear, right. Now, if Moses was God's errand boy and Jesus Christ is God's only begotten son - why did THEY RODE along with those "pagan" creations /concepts and installed them into their missions / new found doctrines? A simple fact check shows the oldest existing inscription of the name Yahweh exists in the temple of Soleb built by the Pharaoh Amenhotep III in ca. 1400 BC. These videos make assumptions but are not factual. for example is Yahweh were really a Cananite god we would easily have inscriptions that are much older than 1400bc but we dont. the fact is this is not a true statement but an assumption. dont make a mistake and believe the assumption just because the person making the assumption is decorated with phd's or whatever doctorate you choose. facts are facts and no such inscription exists on Yahweh from the Cananites or any of the early cradle civilizations from mesopotamia.

As others have pointed out, while some of the problems with purported divine attribution and with “the false pen of scribes” (AKA Fake News?) have been eased by technological and academic advances which have improved the sheer availability of information throughout history, the fundamental problem, as pointed out by the lecturer here, is still the book which remains closed, and in some ways modern communication technology has only massively multiplied the problems. From my own observation of various religious traditions throughout history, regardless of whether the sacred text is the Torah, the Koran, or the Septuagint, Latin, or King James Bible, (or indeed the texts underpinning any of the many other completely unrelated religious traditions), the progress of humanity is advanced in places and at times when large portions of the populace are encouraged and enabled to directly interact with and interpret the texts for themselves in the context of their own lived experience and the sum total of other human knowledge available in that place and time. To gain true value from any religious tradition, each adherent must individually do as Jacob did on his way home to his father’s lands, must wrestle with god as directly and as personally as they are able- therein lies the moral value of any of the traditions. To be of value, the narratives, parables, and injunctions of any religious tradition must be not only read and understood, but also interpreted and applied by each person to the new and unique circumstances which any individual human faces in life. Where that experience of the religious text is thoroughly mediated by any other human being, whether Bishop, Imam, or televangelist, the best possible outcome is one in which the majority of adherents, having outsourced their spiritual growth to someone else, wind up emotionally stunted, morally defective, and self righteously blind to their own human defects. In worse cases, where the mediators are themselves morally bankrupt and patently self serving (medieval Catholic clerics selling indulgences, modern prosperity theology televangelists buying private jets on cash defrauded from their impoverished audiences, fundamentalist Muslim clerics of certain stripes preaching a gospel of violent intolerance precisely calculated to appeal to dispossessed and disaffected young men, or political figures like Donald J Trump holding up a book they have never personally read and certainly never engaged with in any meaningful way), in those cases religious traditions can become not only ineffective as a force for good in the world, but definitively a means of advancing evil. What Cynthia Chapman is talking about is not plagiarism at all, but rather its inverse, namely, *identity theft.* Whereas plagiarism is *literary* theft, what the Bible writers engaged in was *identity* theft (or *forgery* ).
