Doug and Canon Press, can you answer what is your belief about creation and whether it’s literal or not in your belief?
@whtstr2133

I think I get what you are trying for, but... I don't think "mythical"is the proper word. Maybe, more like mystique? Maybe fantastic. A fantasy like reality that actually happened. Kinda like a third of the angles of Heaven coming to earth a severally messing things up. Or one from heaven wiping out 130,000(+?) people in a night. Or the ones mentioned, of course. On a side note: I harass people, pointing out their mistakes, and tell them the truth. I try to get them to agree with what is reality and honesty and truth, or at least acknowledge it. I do this because I give a shit. I actually care about people. I want their life to be better, easier, happier than mine. "Language, please..." And here's the punchline. The Bible says "...Love, compassion, long suffering, of such there is no Law." In what context is the word "shit" used in? Crap is another word used. To "give a shit" means to care intensely. It usually comes from the poor, but often comes from people who have seen some .... Ha, gotcha. That was a reference to the experience of great tragedy in life. What I'm trying to do is reveal a truth. This truth has a Lot to do with salvation, so it's important to teach. ... However, I'm no voice to be heard, like say, you Canon Press. I'm probably the worst at it, honestly. Sorry. But what can I do. I'm still learning, so give me some time. But the task still remains. Best I can do.

I have read and studied the Bible and the MANY different "doctrines" for decades. I was a 100% dedicated evangelist being groomed to be a Pastor. Reality is... The "God" of the Bible is a cruel, hypocritical, mass murdering, child butchering, slavery supporting, asshole. The 10 Commandments 1. Are not even translated correctly 2. Shallow double speak 3. The entire story of Moses getting the 10 is ridiculous. 4. There are 2 sets of the 10 CONmandments. The Bible is mostly plagiarized anyway and it is fiction. There are some good messages and wisdom sprinkled in but, it is a cafeteria line. Just pick what you want and feel good.

The Bible and doctrine of faith is so simple a toddler could understand it, Joe's understanding of faith is worse then a toddler's, what does God say about the this to demonstrate that? "But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” - Mark 10:14-15 "Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” And he laid his hands on them and went away." - Matthew 19:13-15

I think Doug is missing the larger point here. The guy Joe is interviewing is suggesting what happens in the bible is absurd and impossible, but that's only the case if someone presumes atheism. Of course the miracles in the Bible are physically impossible through nature alone; doing something that would be otherwise physically impossible is how God sometimes chooses to prove himself. The guy Joe is interviewing is asking the question 'What do these absurd myths mean?' which is really presuming the answer to the question he should really be asking which is "Does God actually exist?" If the answer to "Does God actually exist?" is "yes" then the miracles of the Bible aren't absurd myths. What people like this guy Joe is interviewing do is presume the truth of atheism to then try and prove atheism, all the while doing their best to try and sound philosophical; THAT is what's absurd here.

@liamdealmeida9914

He's had Jordan Peterson on. Peterson isn't the best apologist, he's done apologetics here and there but even if he was the best, Peterson doesn't seem too motivated to change Joe's mind on Christianity and Joe seems too scared to challenge him or anyone actually competent on the topic (he threw in a "hmm" and "yes" every now and then with Peterson, to show that he's listening but is very careful to agree or disagree on anything). I know he's challenged Milo Yiannopoulos (yes, I searched up how to spell that), Ben Shapiro and Candace Owens but they did a horrible job at representing Christianity, though Ben didn't do as bad for Judaism (he still did pretty bad). Joe hasn't allowed anyone good at apologetics on his podcast, from my knowledge, and probably never will but has brought on so many atheist intellectuals like Dawkins, Harris and Tyson. When he did get too much attention from Christians, he complimented the teachings of Christ to try and dampen the fire. It just shows how little he actually cares about learning and coming to the truth, he's happy to sit in his own little echo chamber on this topic.

Maybe he doesn't want to promote someone's argument from ignorance, straw mans, etc on religion? We've heard it all before. @@MrTheclevercat No, it's funny because you accuse Christian apologists of often using the straw man fallacy when in no way did you disprove anything I said, did you include anything informative/educational or did you properly represent apologists in your comment (sounds like a straw man, unless you can provide multiple sources where renowned theists tell people to "look at trees in a different way"). If you actually knew anything about the atheism and theism discussion or weren't so keen on defending Rogan, you'd see that his arguments are at the level that you'd hear in an Xbox lobby. If Joe was just so against having "ignorant" Christian beliefs spread then he probably would have interrupted Peterson while he went on and on about how The Bible is the foundation of human communication/speech and the brilliance of The Bible but instead Joe sat quietly with his legs crossed and fingers entwined. Joe could've tried some of his social, argument tactics (which I will admit, Rogan is great at) and raw facts but knowing Jordan Peterson, I highly doubt his tactics would go far. If Joe really wants to expose Christianity, then he should just have an apologist worth his salt and an atheist worth his on his podcast so they can discuss it instead of having another atheist on where they just chalk Christianity up to being a belief that is for people that need to grow up and who just believe in fairytales.

I’ll never understand people who are flummoxed about the supernatural, miraculous aspects of the Bible. Wouldn’t you expect that from an omnipotent, supernatural being? We are taught in the epistle to the Ephesians that to be a Christian you have to understand many hearts or souls are darkened and they are blinded and it’s up to God our father through the Holy Spirit to make them see. We can talk and try and convince beings to the end of time. Not up to us but it’s up to Jesus. We can lead people to identify with the spirit you just cannot convince them. “But ye have not so learned Christ” Eph 4:20

I have thought this for years. If the true message of the Scriptures is to obtained, God has to reveal it to us. How can human beings, as prone as we are to going astray very easily, know what version of Christianity is true, for instance, let alone which religion is true? We can go astray at any point and miss the Truth as a result. We believe because God reveals it to our minds, and he provides the means of salvation to us. We could never figure it out on our own. We are prone to errors at every point. If we are to know the truth, God must reveal it to us.

I'd be careful saying something like "there are myths in the Bible". You implied that the creation account is an allegory for some means other than what is literally written. It’s these sloppy, vague, inaccurate ideas thrown around by people that go uncoorected that spreads so much confusion and drives me crazy. It’s like saying Christopher Columbus discovered America by accident because he didn’t update his iPad and stupid and uninformed people just let that slide by without question. Believe me two hundred years from now someone might say that about Columbus and no one will know enough about the past to question that. It was his iPhone.

Jesus said, "Judge not by appearance but judge by righteous judgment." Past sensorial experience, what we think of as history is not what is important. Jesus took the "historical" parable of the Adam and Eve story and revised it with the parable of the prodigal son. God is very different as we compare the two. Jesus knew God as only love because he had perfected love to a much greater degree than the writers of the Old Testament.

Definitionally, what would make a "perfect myth"? The answer is not in legendary embellishments -though those are often (not always) found IN myths. No, a "perfect myth" would be a story demonstrating transcendental truth(s). Further, for it to be a perfect example of a myth, it would also be a factually and literally true story. In that regard, the New Testament - in particular, the crucifixion and empty tomb - is a perfect myth. Like Jordan Peterson suggests, it's quite literally more true than true - which defines it as myth, but uniquely, it's also "true" in the mundane sense of the word.

That's such equivocation over the word "Torah." When Jews study Torah, they generally are referring to the Talmud and its legal rulings. You don't tell fairy tales like "once upon a time there was a made named Adam, and he lived exactly 930 years, and when he was X years old he begat Cain, Abel, Seth and had other sons and daughters" . that's giving a genealogy of people who actually lived. I've always felt that myth is something like a generalized description of human desires interplaying with reality. Desires result in some kind of purposefull action. The actions produce an outcome which has consequences for that desire. Mythic stories have characters we automatically identify with. The tortoise and the hare have clear motivations. Understanding the fable increases your individual mental fitness. Ancestors interacted with this pattern of behavior so many times (thousands of years, probably since the the dawn of competitions between humans that were aware/conscious) that the fable has built itself into our bodies and culture.
