The Bible Meaning of "The Heart"

What does it mean to "believe with all your heart" from a biblical perspective? It is clear from the Bible that when God speaks about the heart, He is not referring to that vital, yet physical organ beating inside our chest. Rather, He is referring to that vital part of us that is able to reason, think, and imagine. Are you using your "heart" to seek after God?

This was a very good sermon! I had knowledge of the facts of Jesus but I didn't have the heart or will. I went to so many churches that had the emotional "experience" but they didn't have the gospel. I was trying to love Jesus enough to be saved. Then I went to churches with religion and facts but were still doing, doing, doing good deeds to be saved. Then finally at age 42 I started to read my perverted NIV and it had enough facts to show me that women were not supposed to be pastors and we went to a church with a woman pastor. God showed me this to get my attention. I wanted to go to a church that followed the Bible because I grew up Catholic. I wanted to be baptized but our IFB pastor said, "How do you know you are saved?" The Holy Spirit convinced me that I was not. Soon after I repented of trusting in my good works and called on Jesus to save my soul! Amen!!! I am glad I didn't reject His calling. I had been attending church my entire life, but didn't have any idea how to be saved. Right after I was saved I burned every "Christian" book I had including my NIV and stopped listening to "Christian" rock and rap music. Our church uses the KJ Bible and sings the old hymns full of truth and doctrine. I am so joyful and thankful to the Lord for not giving up on me. I have always been a truth seeker, so God has given me the desires of my heart to show me truth. That's why enjoy your sermons so much!

Thanks for bringing out the vitalness of the heart matter! My children believes the heart is just a blood machine. I believe the mind and the heart is spiritually connected that no Science can explain it. If one is brain dead, the heart can still live, if the heart is dead, the brain is over. But there is the element of the human spirit and the soul. Those factors I believe also work in the big picture of the heart. My soul doth magnify the Lord and my spirit rejoice in my God my Savior, in this verse, I believe the heart and the mind is working together with the Soul and the Spirit to cause it to happen. We only know very little to understand the complete picture of the heart.

Im confused... is the prayer REQUIRED to be saved? Am I saved by believing or believing and calling upon God?

This answer is given without a recent study on the topic. But we believe a prayer doesn't save you. Bible says to believe on the Lord Jesus Christs; His death, burial and resurrection and that only; and you will be saved. However calling (praying) is often part of salvation. Does one need to go down to an alter and pray an audible prayer? No; but you would likely call on the Lord from your heart. CJ
